Hey guys,
sorry if you have seen some of these pictures. i'm just making a build thread now. here is my fb build... here is what i started with, a bone stock 84 gsl Attachment 717424 Attachment 717425 i then purchased the respeed race coilover kit for the front and rear. I called up one of my local stock car shops and ordered up some 15x8 diamonds. a nardi wheel and got the wood lathe going to make a matching shifter. Than i finally searched and searched and got some 175/55/r15 for all four corners
so i car was driveable now.. And i got bored so i put a roof rack on and made a fairing. but it is not on the car anymore Attachment 717433 Attachment 717434 Attachment 717435 Attachment 717436 Then just over the past year i decided that i wanted to go lower. I was at the very low limit of my stock strut tubes and illumina inserts. So i made my own new struts. bought some koni 8610 inserts which are larger diameter than the illuminas so i found some mk2 supra struts that fit the inserts and combined them the supra struts Attachment 717437 koni vs illumina Attachment 717438 my respeeds sitting and waiting Attachment 717439 so i cut the supra tubes off, made a new bottom on the lathe, welded it on and turned it smooth for a press fit Attachment 717440 Attachment 717441 then bored out the rx7 spindle bottoms to accept the new tubes made some new spring/height adjuster purches and this is the end product. Attachment 717442 Attachment 717443 the height difference from old strut to new one Attachment 717444 |

Now for how the car sits.. and it will roll a soda can down the road
Attachment 717445 Attachment 717446 Attachment 717447 I just put my 20mm spacers up front but i don't have any pictures yet. i'll keep you guys posted... thanks for reading |

i have had it where the front was at this height, with cut springs, and very little of my bumpstops left. but it was almost undriveable. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...4_232807_n.jpg
Now it's sitting at this height(i hate stock wheels :( ) https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._1998905_n.jpg |

Could you describe a little more how you modified the front spindles to accept the supra tube?
How far down did you machine? Did you stick it on a lathe? How much did it cost? I'm really interested in this because I would like to experiment with different shock diameters. |

I'm really interested in this because I would like to experiment with different shock diameters. the outcome with 375lb springs and the koni's and the ride height. i couldn't have asked for a smoother ride. the dampers work really well with low and high speed bump. hope it helps. let me know if you have any more questions |
sweet man im from montreal not too far apart...
what you did is pretty much the same thing tht i plan on doing with my 85 XD its in storage now...planning on rebuilding it from the ground up this winter...maybe next year u can come to montreal for one of our jdm mondays or for UltraRide even :P |
*do u have disc brakes or drum brakes in the rear?*
|
It's a GSL, so he has rear disc brakes. Love the look DMclean. I tried to go about an inch higher than that with the stock strut tubes. I really didn't like it. Of course my tires are a lot wider. It tore the hell out of my fenders.
|
and what exhaust is tht? XD
i ordered a magnaflow with the same style (obviously its a custom length) |

Actually I'm going to be stealing your shifter boot idea. I got a bottle of CR Black last night and it came with a black bag. Just wondering what size bottle yours came from. Mine is a 40oz and I'm not sure if the bag will fit without some serious surgery. Thanks.

nice!!!!!!!! my first car in high school was a MK1 Jetta coupe. It was soo clean, slow as hell and automatic but i loved it. Bought it for $300
|
Well, looks like I found my twin's setup :P
I thought about the exact setup minus the supra-low struts. Too low for my area, haha. I was/am still a little worried about the durability of the Diamond Racing wheels. I hear they bend semi easily. What are your opinions on them before I actually buy them? |

diamond racing wheels are very tough. when you order them say they are for street use so you want the thicker shells. i have hit more than enough bumps and pot holes and have nothing but good things to say. i'm also running 185/45s on the front. my wheels are perfect still. don't be hesitant about ordering. good bang for buck.
i use to run 13'' diamonds on my rabbit with 175/50s no problems with them ever. tough wheels indeed. |
I love this car.. and its in ontario, awesome!
|
hey man whats the spring rate u got for the springs front aand back?
|
both rides very sweet. I love them both
|
I spy a clean engine bay. more shots of under the hood?
|

ha, it nothing special. mostly stock except an intake runner for the carb. i'll try to find some pictures of the engine bay. my car is in storage for the winter so i won't be able to get any pictures for a while. i'm thinking about getting rid of them for some wider different wheels. |
i would like to see that ^^^
cant wait to see your next wheels btw. |
See the problem with 15s that are so wide is finding tires for them. I'm running 295s on my rear and the lowest profile I could find was a 50, which is a little big for my taste and won't allow me to lower the rear as much as I'd like to. Considering switching to 16s...hmmm

Hey DM, just wondering what lugs your using with the Diamonds. I'm planning to get a set but my McGard lugs aren't the correct taper.

http://www.tunershop.com/Wheel_Spacers/Bolts/ They work pretty well. not the nicest i've seen, but they aren't too expensive. the only lousy thing about tunershop if that its a flat rate shipping price so you have to build a decent sized order to make it worth your while. |
Hmm, that's what my lugs are but the Diamond site says 5x114.3 will require a 45 degree taper.
