Saga of #33(sa22c-500033)
Interesting to see the center arm-rest in there - this is not spec'd out for the "S" - should be just the ashtray...
sorry to see the split on the speaker grille on the dash - very vulnerable - thank gawd they dumped it in the 80

But now, I'm wondering what the odds are against two SAs having the same 'incorrect' **** shape, especially considering the provenance on this car here.
I've never seen a known-original vinyl SA ****. My understanding was that they look just like the leather ones, except in plastic. Confusion sets in.

Reason I asked; on my "want to buy" thread, I was offered a **** just like that, except different color, supposed to be SA original - - I thought the seller was mistaken.

quickey update, yes I am currently deployed it takes some doing for me to be able to find a computer that will allow me on a forum. When I left Texas which was in December before the car ever got to us. I then trained at Ft riley for a few months (too many) and then shipped to Iraq boots on ground 1 Aug. As for the car the update is I have had the oppertunity to drive it and she is absolutely sweet very tight we were still gathering all the pieces that we needed to correct some minor flaws and return her to 100% original specs I can not access the pics where I am so i can't tell you if it is the right shift **** or not but there were only 2 different ones that I can recall one that was leather wrapped and then the vinyl one. granted this all memory. We did get her tagged and inspected in Texas with personalized plates ==== 33d Rx7 ===== we were also able before I left to get Bill Waits Rx7 inspected and tagged with the personalized plate ======= widbdy =======.
I have to give credit to the former owners of this car as they did take excellent care of her before she came to me.
well got to run hopefully i can give y'all a couple more updates soon

ok had the oppertunity to look at the pics while at an MWR internet cafe.
The shift ****, I don't know if it is orig SA equipment or not, it could be orig mazda SA equipment but from Japan I will have to refer to my early sales lit to verify also I will have to refer to the early parts books to see how many different ones there are.
Several people have noticed inconsistancies with this vehicle, ie it is a base model but it has a sport model console and ashtray (the carpet was not cut denoting later install but factory edged)
There is a very similar huge inconsistance with my #88 car as well (the other one we have that was made in 2/78) The door panels have the appropriate early chrome trim strip but they also have the map pocket on the bottom a combination that US cars never had but was available in Japan

I wonder then if the **** didn't change 79-80... after all, much of the interior trim detail changed for the 80's. Door handles, chrome trim bits, etc.
Now maybe the 79 FOUR speed **** was different?? I have never seen one. maybe an SA "S-model" owner here can address this and solve our mystery?

7aull is right, as usual,
The question I have for my cars which becomes a problem in the US (i also have the same problem with my savannas) is JDM interiors were not the same as US ones, if you have the oppertunity to buy the 78-80 and even 81 JDM rx7 catalogues they show the different JDM trim specs and items available very few if any of these parts show up in the US parts catalogues.
