SC Rust

I got rust...

What do I do? (other than wait for it to return to the earth). I've always been warned "Never get a rusty vehical or one without a title", but the RX was calling me!

I was planning on using a wire wheel on the underside and then truck bed linning it. That will probably halt or slow the surface corrosion for the moment, but what about the more serious problems I am finding?

I've got a quater sized hole by the back right tire.

I have half dollar sized hole on the passenger side door.

And of course my hood is just GONE.

Without MAJOR work, can I slow these holes untill I have tons of money and time? I do have a mig and I've seen shows where people restore rusty cars but that looks VERY time consuming. Also, "pretty" ain't my thing; I make stuff GO not pretty things.

Rx-7s are still plentiful enough that it may be cheaper to start with a rust free chassis, I would bet someone in your area has one in their backyard just waiting for someone to come get it

If you are serious about this one then start cutting out the bad bits and welding in new metal. Doors and hoods I would just replace, rather than bother trying to repair.

everyone has wheel well rust lol. i have it pretty bad in both side. if you grind or cut out all the rust and properly seal it you will be just fine. if you know somebody with a welder you will want to get them to weld up the holes. you can find good doors anywhere, but always remember anything is fixable.

I guess I would have made a more prudent choice in buying a rusty RX7, if I had known I would like the car (and the engine type) SOOOO MUCH.

rust

Cheap method to slow the rust so you can at least address it before something important like a suspension point rusts out, knock all the rust you can off with a wire wheel. Clean the surface with degreaser and spray it with rustolem rust converter primer. you can get it pretty much anywhere that sells rattlecans. I woulder cover this with something else like the bedliner.

You will eventually have to grind/cut all the offensive parts out and weld in new metal.

Most rust converters are just frickin snake oil.

Seriously, if you dont plan to cut it out and replace it properly, go get yourself some POR-15.
