Talking Project last hope

Well this is what I dug up about my 1984 GSL. It has not been titled since 2008 traded around about 3 times. It landed on my lap in as a mess. As it goes for a midwest car it is solid, but the rear valance, and 1/4s need work along with the rear inner wheel wells as well. I have drove it for a couple miles, I need to head to Mazda for a fuel tank sending unit gasket so I can replace that. But it will rev to 7500 with no issues.

Currently she sits with 110,600 miles as the Iowa title states (last time she was titled) she had 109,600 miles, car was bought but for the sum of $13,100 (this maybe the brand new 1984 price though). I picked her up for the whooping price of $600. Next is to get her running better, new carb and intake setup, header, and getting rid of the rats nest.

So far she got new plugs, wires, cooling system flushed, dimmer switch and choke **** repaired, new fuel pump, and it is awaiting a new sending unit. I am still looking for parts though so next will be body parts, both fenders and lower valance and front bumper so I will be keeping an eye out on EBAY, the parts section here, and local boneyards. I will post pics tomorrow.

Well since my lovely 3 month old daughter decided to wake me up at 2 this morning I would figure I would throw up some pics.
The night I got her home:

My broken radio antenna:

My golfclub proprod:

I do not think the golf club prop rod is a factory option.....
I have ordered a factory style prop rod off of ebay so hopefully by friday the golf club goes bye bye

So a little update for those following. The gas tank has been taking off to get a couple of minor holes replaced front seal, and a small hole in the back of the tank, going to also replace the 1984 rubber fuel lines as well and the sending unit. Clutch I got a couple of days ago ordered the 54MM socket for the flywheel, also got the prop rod so the golf club has been retired. The rear bumper cover has been remove to inspect for any damage to the reinforcement (spl?). Next I will remove the front bumper cover and inspect that as well. I have one good question though... can I use a 13B flywheel from a 1987 rx7 with a 1984 clutch? I have searched around but could not find a definative answer. Some say yes some say no some say the 87 non-turbo model will work.

Nice dude. Glad to see the pressure tester for the rad in one pic- too many people just let them leak & guess where it comes from.

Almost positive you can't use that (an N326) flywheel. Different assembly weights/balances

I know I do not like to play the here where is the leak coming from, it is a slow leak but appears to be from the intake gaskets.

Update: Well first thing is first, I found my coolant leak, figures it is the rad. but it served for almost 30 years next is a 3 row aluminum. Next rear bumper reinforcement and shocks are in good shape just need a new cover. Remonoved the lower rear valance I will get pics on Sunday. Front bumper reinforcement and supports is shot so I need to replace those, got my new to me 81-83 lower front valance and grill for a the big price of $75 shipped. Fuel tank is still out of the car once I get that backit will be good to go.

New hoses and brakes are in the works as well, new pads and rotors all 4 corners, also removed the rats nest and all other emission devices. Also have been stock piling parts for a 13b swap.

So I now that I got the motor apart I have a couple of questions,
1. Are front and rear housings interchangable?
2. Would housings from an earlier RX-car/REPU work if I can locate a good set?

Yea I know only a few hours away. Well thought I would update it I recieved 2 12a's one is showing 20PSI (but hasn't ran in a few years still chuges and puffs) Looks to be rebuilt as well. The other has higher compression but is an 81 motor. Got a lot more parts now. Time to start selling some off to get a widebody kit from a member on here as long as he still has it for sale.

Yes, it is. Just pull the axles out unbolt the center section, swap the center section reinstall the axles and there you go.

As she sits just need a few parts, a clutch master cylinder (ordered through ebay), a racing beat header.... the street or bridgeport one, a battery (my old one is to big), and a perfomance fuel pump. Just a few weeks away from driving her.

Huh, never considered doing this. I know you can swap Kia Sportage Pre-2000 4x4 front differentials in with 4.44 or 4.78 LSD's and S2000's work as well. Just never thought of trying to swap my GSL diff into my GS for a quick LSD fix...

Anyways, welcome and good luck with the project!

Yea, I know S2K I heard were a little bit nuts (price wise) the KIA option was in but no bone yard around here likes to carry anything older then 2001, unless it is a pickup truck.

Still awaiting for the header and the gasket, did a compression test and the engine is sitting at 95PSI front and 100 PSI in the rear. This was done cold with a conventional compression tester.
