This weekend is going to be a big install weekend for me. I have a car show to go to Saturday morning.

I'll get a bunch of pics of the progress.

Friday I replaced all the interior bits that I bought. I have a few more interior pieces on the way than that is basically done.

The motor mounts are changed out and also replaced the crush washers for the oil injectors, belts, and fusable links. Today I replaced the starter and negative battery cable.

I still need to replace the positive batery cable, shifter boot, and rebuild the OMP.

My list is starting to get really small, lol.

Here is a pic from a car show saturday morning:

I've been thinking more about restomod part of this build. I think I'm going to skip most of it and keep this car more original.

New list:
-Bönez Street Exhaust System
-Hawk HPS pads
-SS Brake lines (already have)
-SS clutch line (already installed)
-Racing Beat Muffler (already installed)
-Eibach Springs (already installed)
-Tokico Illumina Shocks
-Energy Suspension Polyurethane Bushings

Parts I may or may not get:
-Re-Speed Tubular Competition Sway Bar
-Power Slot Brake Rotors

I figure that these parts would improve the car just slightly without changing the original feel of the car.

Thoughts?

A few thoughts:

- Why Bonex and not the RB header?
- Why Illimuna and not Blues?
- Are you propared for the increased noise with the busings?

-I chose the Bonez over the RB header because I wanted to keep the original look and I'm not really concerned with a HP increase. My stock cats are a little clogged and rusted so that was the main reason for the change.

-I have the blues on the car now and they are a little harsh in the rear. I'm hoping that running the Illumina in the rear on the softest setting with soften the ride a little.

-Is there a large increase in noise with the bushings even if I go with the graphite impregnated ones?

I have my new shifter surround installed. Thanks to Stevan for pulling the part out of the salvage yard for me.

there is no increase in noise with the Graphite Impregnated bushings. I put them on my FB this spring and drove it down to DGRR on them. No squeaks.

Word of caution: take your estimated time frame for completion and triple it, just to be on the safe side.

Also, make sure you have a grinder with a thin cut-off wheel and 2 propane torches, with extra gas.

You may also want to pick up new bolts for the front and rear control arms, as they can be seized to the bronze inserts.

Get yourself a 26mm socket for the front stay rods.

Thanks, very helpful. I'm most likely going to wait till next year for this since the original bushings are in great shape. I saved all the rear control arms and bolts off my other car. I figured I could rebuild those and just swap them out.

Chris, were you able to find brown door handle cups? I could only find Black still available. If you did get brown, where did you find them? If you got black, are you leaving them black or painting the brown? And if you are painting them brown, what paint are you using?

PM'd you rotordogg.

This weekend I will be rebuilding the OMP. It is working good but is covered in grease so I'm sure it's leaking some. I have all new crush washers and o-ring for it as well.

so tell me... that positive cable you have... is that for an SE or a 12A car? the SE's cable is NLA and if you got one i'm gonna be sooo jealous.. the downside either way is the red rubber over the terminal end and the different terminal end. not original looking on either part. i recently installed a new oem cable on my 85 GSL..

It's the 12A cable not the SE cable. I'm actually sending it back because it doesn't look anything like the stock cable. The original cable is in really good shape so I'm not too worried about using an old cable. I was going to replace it for preventative reasons. Do you know if you can still get a 12A cable that look like the original one? I thought about calling Mazdatrix to see if they can still get one.

I haven't had a chance to do the OMP rebuild yet but I will be getting to that on Thursday. I also plan to go over everything on the car since I'm taking the car on a trip over the mountians over 300 miles each way and over 10k feet above sea level. It will be a good test for the car.
