I was looking for pics of a good restored or original tan GSL-SE.

i bet that would buff out and look new except for the fender and bumper.

 

I 2nd that.

I think if you did a good job detailing the car it would look 10 times better. Maybe as a short term fix you could re-align the bumper and use some epoxy or something like it to glue it back together from the inside of the bumper.

You should give it a try.

It was actually given to me for free. It doesn't run but it turns over. I need to pull out a dent in the drivers side fender where it is pushed in by the door. For now I plan to epoxy the bumper, fix the dent, and get a can of spray paint from paint scratch.

It has 190k on the car. I was told that it had a replacement motor. The motor does have a mazda parts sticker on the oil filler. The car was garage kept its whole life. The guy I got it from was the second owner. He payed $6000 for it. My best guess is the car sat for close to 6 years.

Things I still need to do to make it reliable:
-have gas tank cleaned and sealed.
-fix oil leak at oil cooler fittings
-unstick 6 por actuators
-have injectors cleaned and pressure tested
-replace front struts
-replace air filter

Things I've done:
-got it running
-replaced fuel pump
-new fuel filter
-new temp sensor
-replaced intake air sensor, MAF, TPS, coolant level sensor
-rebuilt clutch master, replaced slave, SS clutch line
-magnacor wires
-new spark plugs
-all new fluids (still need to replace brake fluid)
-cleaned interior (needed lots of cleaning)
-fixed radio
-power antenna
-cleaned under hood
-repaired front bumper (still need to paint)
-repaired front fender as best as I could for now
-alignment
-swapped to a better set of wheels

I have about $800 into the car now.

Thanks. I plan to keep it. The only rust on the car is a sone on the wheel wells just behind the vinyl peice and a little bit in the bin. All at a very fixable level. So a little bit of body work and paint and the car would look good.

I plan to keep the motor stock except for a Bönez Street Exhaust System and a K&N filter.

Everything else I plan is suspension and brake changes. ReSpeed strut brace, sway bar, coilovers, Camber Plate Kit, TOKICO Illumina adjustable shocks, Energy Suspension bushings, hawk hps pads, SS brake lines, and powerslot rotors.

I will be keeping all the stock parts.

 

I went to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs and took a few pics of the car.

 

(Lose the louvers, sport striping, A/C, etc. Weight bogs you down!!!) plus it looks better...

 

I plan to keep all those things. I did all that on my '83 and it is a lot of fun but for this car i want something a little more luxury. The thing on the '83 that I miss the most is the A/C because it worked. For this car, I want something that is more original. This car is way too clean to start striping. Also I like the louvers and they don't weigh as much as you would think, maybe 20lbs.

 

I hear 'ya. I guess I also like to see a little better w/out the louvers. Looks like you're having fun with it!

 

Also, I dig the tan color. Fairly rare?

 

i also prefer the original look. louvers add a nice touch to the exterior and i think once the body mouldings are removed, the car looks odd because teh front and rear bumper rub strip is integrated and cannot be removed. i like the car just the way the desingers intended it to be.

How do you think the car would look with a factory spoiler and the louvers? Anyone have pics of a car with both?

 

I like the mouldings and I have not removed mine, but the striping was usually dealer-added (?) I think and I think it looked dated on my car, so off it came. Mouldings good, striping bad.

I've always liked pin striping. I was thinking when I have the car repainted I would have it redone by a professional in paint. I was thinking toward the back of the car have him put a rotor in the pinstripe.

 

I've got to admit, that car looks pretty smooth. (Even with the pin striping!) (In all seriousness, I don't mean to say pin striping would look bad on your car or mean to just disagree with everything you say. I think your car looks nice just the way it is.)

 

lol. I Like the smooth look as well. I was planning to do the smooth look on my black car but this car is too clean to not keep in all original looking.

 

If all goes as planed, the car should be back on the road this weekend. I have the oil cooler fixed and I just need to install it. The gas tank is at a radiator shop getting dipped right now. I needed to get a new pickup screen for the gas tank but it has been discontinued by mazda, I've been running a carb filter between the pickup and the pump. I guess I will have to continue doing that.

-replace coolant line that goes under oil filter and coolant lines to intake
-finish replacing vacuum lines
-replace front struts (taking them off my 83)
-intalling SS brake lines from my 83 and flushing brake fluid

Love the color. Very nice car for the mileage.
