She'll get there Pistol, eventually.

This weekend I got all of ge HVAC system out and now I wanna seenif here's a way to check it to see if at works. Had some rust come out ofthe heaer core but eventually flushed it to clear water, the condenser(?) for the AC looks fine and I guess all I can really do is run some of that liquid AC flush through it and see what comes out. The entire system was depressurised when I got the car so I has no idea if it actually works. On the other hand I figure my car was originally sold down te road in Ft Worth. On the bottom of the ac comdensor(?) i found a sticker with the name of a company from ft worth and since the AC was dealer installed upon arivial I can only assume it was originally sold here. Pretty neat if it was.

That's all i got accomplishe over the weekend, weather was so nice I couldn't pass up taking the M38 out for some trail riding.

Sorry, no pics today. I left my camera at the apartment but I'll make up for it next week.

Plastex is your friend for plastic repair. I've used it to repair mounting posts on FC dash bits in particular, and lots of other stuff in general. I don't know if it will work on the duct plastic, but I suspect it will. Available on eBay - easier to deal with than that website.

Quick question for those who might know. I'm at the point where I need to have the interior plastics painted but I don't have a good section to use a guide for a paint shop to properly match it. One of the dealerships I work at has a group of guys who do interior/exterior paint and repair and I'm taking a piece to them tomorrow to see what they can come up with. Failing that, I'm wanting to have a bit of vinyl paint mixed up to do it myself. Is there a paint code for the interior? Pages of searching have only turned up exterior codes. Thanks in advance.

I don't know about a paint/color code (mine's easy: black) but do you not have a section that was overlapped or otherwise covered to work with, like the dash ends or the back of a panel? Maybe buy a NOS piece from Mazda or Black dragon (door pull, door handle surround, something small like that)?

Failing that, a paint shop may be able to help you out. You'd think they would have an interior color book like the exterior paint chip books.

Doh! It's been so long since I took all that out that I totally forgot of the end caps, they should be good enough to get a match from. Thanks for the shot to the brain. Still interested in a code though if it does exist.

short answer is no. the plastics aren't painted. there is a color code attached to the part number, but its really just a part number.

American cars have paint codes for the interior because some of the plastics actually are painted, so when you replace something, it needs to be painted. i think its more of a 60's thing, but Ford was like that up until the early 2000's

Ah, i do believe they are though. The center console and the of the bottom half of the dash are cast black platic with a tan paint on em. While scrubbing the dirt and grime off the console I got a bit too rough and scrubbed the tan right off of it lol. Maybe it's a dye? Like ya say, there probably isn't a code for that color though. Hopefully the paint guys can helpmme out tomorrow and point me in he right direction.

Update time, small but it's something at least.

I take photos for a couple of new car dealers and they have a company that reconditions used cars. They fix dents, scratches, remove stains, fix interiors, etc and I asked their interior guy if he would be able to match the paint on my interior pieces. He told me to bring them by and he would see what he could do.

Here are the results:

The color is an exact match. He used the factory over spray on the underside of the console to match it and said it's actually an older Lexus interior color by SEM.

Dont really know how I'm gonna reattach the console lid. It's broken off cleen at the pad. Since he was able to make an exact match I thought about trying to find one that wasn't broken regardless of color and having him paint it.

I also gave them one of my door panels to recover. Got a call a few days ago saying they could match the colors but they don't have the ability to match the factory 'scroll' around the armrest/door pull. He said he could make it similar but with stitching instead of how it's 'pressed' from factory. Told him to go for it, I know it's not 100% original but I can't have nothing there. I'll post pics when I get it back.

Duffman's 79 spark yellow thread - my original inspiration!! I started reading your thread just before I got my 79. Glad to see you're still at it! Those interior pieces look really nice. Can't wait to see more and see it come back together!

Wow! Wish it were here, looks amazing from those lil thumbnails.

Talked with the upholsty guy today, he's got it taken apart and doin some matching and taking measurements. I told him when I gave it to him that I was in nonrush to get it back so he's working on it in his spare time so could still be awhile before I get it back.

It's going slow, my daily died on me two months ago and other debts have put the project way behind but I'm tackling a few things here and there. I've gotten all the brown interior plastics refinished by the same guy who did the bits pictured above, haven't taken pics though, got NOS in box seat covers, misc. Interior ***** and switches, and all NOS exterior badging too. All the interior lacks is the dash and door cards, gonna try to scrub and save the carpets.

So yea, haven't given up or abandoned it. Just super slow progress.

Some is better than none. Keep plugging away at it and it will get there eventually.

Now, if I could just get some @#$% driving impressions on a certain supercharger.

Soooo.... been a while.
Any updates, or is it slowly sinking into the ground again?

Also, I'm pretty sure I never got those '79 AC parts from my car to you. I know where most of it is. Compressor, condenser, and hoses at least. Moved all that to the shed when I cleaned up to sell the grey GSL-SE.

And you started out so well!
I've got most of the system, just need to make sure it's where I think it is next time I'm out in the shed. Remind me from time to time.

Yea, I got squirrel syndrome and never got back to it. Still picking up NOS as I find it though, it’ll get finished at some point.

I can't say much. My '79 sat for 10 years, then through the winter after I started working on it again, since it's outside. Really wish I had a shop.
