Haha, yea i do live out in the sticks.
Yea, that's the one I'm holding jn the picture. The white/blue wires run to the blower motor, under the dash there next to te blower are a red and blue wire that have been run to another relay that looks factory. It's attached to the side of the condenser box and those two wires are cut and dangling. There is a green wire that the blue/white comboe are tied into and a makeshift jumper was put in line with the green wire. Sounds more confusing than it is, can't get ya any pics till I go back home Saturday though.

Huh. Well, we'll figure it out.
I wouldn't mind visiting to check out the car and help out, it just has to be scheduled, with me coming from Euless. You're out past Plano, aren't you? I know you've said where, but I'm old an my memory is... what was I saying? :P
You'll also have to fight Matt (Texas_Turbo7) for my time. We're trying to get the red '86 Base that I have road-worthy. 'Bout ready to drop in the engine, then start slapping on intake, etc. The fun part is finding all the nuts and bolts and washers and stuff, because I didn't take this one apart - I got it that way. We ran all over trying to fin M8-1.0 x 20mm bolts in Class 10.9 for the clutch-cover to flywheel, but could only find them in the Class 8.8. Finally found a set - on a spare flywheel in my garage!

Yea, I live in plano but the car is back home in Quinlan which is about and hour and a half away lol. Thats too far for ya to come just for that, if we can sort it out through pics and diagrams then I'll be fine. Saturday I'm helping eggz and Will tear down her TII motor, prolly won't touch it till sunday.

The white/blue combo is actually yellow/blue, sun faded the yellow to white, lol.
The yellow/blue combo from the relay:
You can see the female connector (black wire) that would have connected to the AC compressor as well.
Through the firewall:
Here you can also see the jumper in the green wire I was telling you about. IDK if was just cut then mended like this or if there was another relay or switch it pluged into. The red/blue wires to nowher can also bee seen as well as the other relay I talked about earlier as well.
Both of the yellow wires run to this relay, out of the top of the relay is a heavy guage wire, very stiff that goes through a hole drilled into the condesor box. The hole in the side of the relay has foil tape over it.

Interesting that it's plugged into a factory plug there under the hood, for part of it.
The box on the side of the evaporator (not condenser - that's the one in front of the radiator) is (IIRC) a superheat switch, or something like that. It will turn off the compressor if the evaporator ices up. What I think we're looking at is a dealer-installed AC setup, with some sloppiness. Trouble is, since the AC was never installed at the factory - only at the port or at the dealer, most of it's not in the FSM. there were apparently separate AC manuals or something. I don't have one, unfortunately.
I think that relay is to control the AC compressor. The wiring should go basically from the "AC" button on the climate controls to the superheat switch, then to the relay to turn on the compressor. I believe mine does something similar, but a little different, partly because I removed the '79 evaporator, condenser, hoses, and compressor, and replaced it with '84 stuff. It all fits, BTW - yay for lazy engineers.

Thanks for all the info Kevin, much appreciated. Since it didn't leave Mazda with that AC system then it's coming out, problem solved. Tried to get some info from Mazda by sending them the VIN but they said they can't get any info on the old VINs before the change to 17 digit VINs. Sucks cause I'd have loved to know what it had, where it sold, etc. I've got all the 85 stuff, hald is still in the car, half is sittin' up on the shelves in my shed...maybe some day. So the relay on the condesor kills the AC when it gets too cold, that heavy guage wire is some kindd of 'temp sensor' eh. Nifty.
That's pretty much all I got done on it today, removed the brake booster/MC, clutch MC, and cleaned a lil bit. Think I'll start on the braking system now, get all I need to replace the drum components, rebuild the front calipers, and do some cleaning and painting.
Discoverd today that I've lost a coolant seal on the FB. Was running rough after this months meet and finally got around to diagnosing it. Pulled the plugs and had coolant on the plugs in the front rotor. Don't know anyone with a set of S5 NA rotors/counterweights do ya?

I wouldn't pull it out - NO SA or FB ever left Mazda in Japan with AC. The "factory" system was installed at the shipping port after the car rolled off the ship, and some had AC installed at the dealer.
What brand of AC compressor does yours have? That will tell you whether it's "factory" or dealer. I forget which is which, but we can find out.
Also, I'm a weenie and won't have a car in TX without AC, if I can help it.
I do have a set of S5 stuff, but they're sort of in an engine at the moment. No not the one in the '90 - I have another S5 engine in the garage. It's locked up , though. Been sitting filled with ATF for a year or two - might not be stuck any more... have to dig it out and check.

Don't worry about the S5 stuff anymore, the guy posted above ya just helped menout in a tremendous way. Thank you though.

Oh, and you could try the "Block-Weld" trick to get the coolant leak on the '85 sealed back up.

Ah, missed that. You want my original system? I replaced it because it used flare fittings for the hose connections, which are notoriously leaky, plus I had a bad hose, but it's all there. the '81-and-later setup uses modern o-rings to seal the hose connections. you could put the later stuff in like I did - I doubt that anyone would notice. I'd suggest 81-83, though. I had to add a pulley to the eccentric shaft pulley group because the '84 setup I used had that pulley, and the compressor mount made it so I had to use that groove.
No prob. I still need to dig it out and see if I unlocked it, so I can drop it into one of my cars.

On a side note, my '79 moved for the first time in several years, though not under its own power. We had to move it to get the engine hoist around to the front of the '86. Gotta move it back (it's out in the street) before it gets tagged as a derelict.

A new half bridged heart, lol.
Sweet, thanks man. Don't rush with any of that stuff though, it'll be awhile before I'll actually need it. Still sittin' w/o any interior in it, lol.
If I were closer I'd come give y'all a hand. :/
Sure. I'll dig up all the pieces here in a bit. I think I know where all the parts are. Currently working with Matt to get my red '86 running so I can trade it to him. We got the engine in yesterday. Still needs all the ancillaries like intake, exhaust, OMP, fuel injectors and lines, wiring harness, etc. installed and connected, but the big, heavy thing is in.

AJ there's a 79 on CL. Maybe has some parts you'd need?
