84 Gsl-se Project Clueless
Rob at Pineapple Racing told me to cut three sides of the aircleaner box lid. Follow around the word MAZDA on the front and sides of the word and than bend the metal up, like a mini scoop facing the front of the car. There is your cold air intake. never got around to doing it. If Rob says it, it must help! Keep it simple and you too can get 14 MPG (or less) having a big smile the whole time

i wanted to move the filter, thus using a generic cold air system. how do i clean the carbon out of the ports? someone told me to just let them soak in methanol or var-sol but im not taking the housings apart
The prefilter air duct on my 85 SE pass in front of the radiator and re enters the engine bay next to the battery. I t appears to get air from behind the drivers headlight. The same area as the filter box, behind the right side headlight.
To clean the
Aux Port cavities in the irons, I used red shop rags, brake cleaner (applied to the rag) long screw driver, and a flash light. Took some time, but was spotless when finished

I did not spray the cleaner in the engine, just on the rags, than wiped (over and over) took a while. The carbon comes out stuck to the rag. At the back of the port I would scrap some with the screw driver tip. Than wipe more.
200 hp. With enough time and money. I may be taking mine to a Dyno Day soon. I want to find out what I have before I pull it for the TII swap.

today i went and started removing things like intake pipe and airbox and maf and i think i took some of the air pumps air cleaner but still not sure.. going to order block off plates. does anyone have any pics of they're bays all clean so i know what i can take off and wheres a good place to get some block off plates?
They did that in '85. The '84 just goes to about the center of the radiator.
and tried to change my brakes today for the newer ones that i ordered thru a store in the U.S and they gave me the wrong kit.. im assuming its for a gsl non se model.. whats involved in a 5 lug swap? thinking of changing it after dealing with this bs
this kit: Brake Conversion Kits : 1978-1985 Complete Mark I Big Brake Kit
Brake Conversion Kits : Full Line Kit, ReSpeed Big Brake Kit
plus TII rotors, calipers, bearings, etc. and wheels

I'm in a similar boat with a recently purchased '84 GSL-SE where finding parts is challenging. For example, NAPA and PartsSource both said that they have ZERO calipers in Canada. Luckily there is a local place that rebuilds them for a reasonable price...good thing since I need three of them. Going into this car I realized that parts are going to be tough but it's really tough. Next will be fixing the gas tank.....
It's probably the sending unit. Pull off the driver's side rear wheel and pull the plastic cover. You can then see the sending unit. Check the wiring to the unit. They tend to get mud on them and the connection gets corroded.
so almost everything has been deleted and Glease is making me a block off plate, and i have ordered new parts.. and thanks to a parts store i have the non se brake kit, im assuming cause it looks fak'd rotors and pads all to small for my rx7.. and one of my friends decided to steal my sunroof cause he is hounding me to paint the car
lower balljoints and struts installed, drives good. now has a hole in tank.. gunna try and fix that.. really want it safetied so i can drive it this summer.. pictures soon, at work computer wont let me upload pics
