The jiggle valve is to help burp/bleed air from cooling system. You can create the same effect by drilling the hole in what you have. I like to use oe thermostat, feel it's built better, calibrated closer than aftermarket ones.
I just bought it because I got a new water pump.
Maybe I can use the one that was installed in the car...maybe getting it cleaned will work...
You can test the thermostat in a pot of boiling water. Monitor temperature with a thermometer, check when it begins to open, when it is fully open and length and check whether it is in spec. The procedure is described in the service manual.

I would not hesitate to buy a new oem thermostat. You have it out, now is the best time to do so. The rubber seal inside tends to crack and deteriorate and even if ther thermostat is working properly, you can still have a faulty seal inside. When in doubt, I always replace them.
The car has come a long way and I really enjoyed reading through the thread and seeing the pictures! Cant wait to see more!

I know...when I ordered the water pump they send me the thermostat... i will look for a factory one...
Well...after looking around for ever I finally found a boot kit for the calipers. As suggested by a friend I bought the caliper pin boot kit from a Second gen. Worked like a charm...
Also I took out the old exhaust and got for the girl a Racing Beat header and a 3 inch mandrel bent straight pipe that I'm planning to finish with a 3 inch ci/co Magnaflow stainless steel muffler..
That is all I got for the moment... I'll keep updating... Out with the old...
Look out on the muffler, the extreme heat of the rotary might melt and eventually blow out any fiberglass (or even rock wool) dampener. The muffler still "works" at that point but folks have complained that it's tinny sounding after that.

Thanks for the advice.... I guess I got to keep researching the muffler then....
Any suggestion other than a $300.00 Racing Beat muffler?
Well.... after talking to a friend of mine from Puerto Rico that is a rotary master mechanic I've decided not to use the header and 3 inch muffler setup. My friend told me that while the car will sound awesome it will have a problem at the high end because the 3 exhaust will be too much for my factory motor...
So...with that being said, I got a friend building a 12a with monster bridgeports and other goodies and he asked me to trade him the header...I said ok but the only thing I will take will be this..
He agreed and this is what I got...
I got for the header and 3 inch pipe a full set 15x4 fronts and 15x8 rears of Welds Draglites.
What it makes it real special is the the fronts are extremely hard to find because they are 4x110 bolt pattern and there are not available anymore...
The fronts need a little TLC, the rears are already pilished... get some new center caps, new lugnuts and new tires and get them mounted...
Hey guys...It's been a while.. Now with winter and working two jobs barely got time to work on the old girl.
Yesterday I scored a Racing Beat header with a new gasket kit, a set of TCM Racing lowering springs and a lower control arm to replace the bent one on my front end.
Now I got to sand blast the header and get it ready for ceramic coating and the springs cleaned and painted..
Well, that is all for the moment.. I'll keep updating...
Hey guys... It's been a while. Working 2 jobs 7 days a week it's not fun and doesn't leave you a lot of free time to work on the projects..
Well, I finally found the whole interior, its 2 colors right now...It will be color changed very soon...and also I installed the TII seats... they are comfy I like the way it feels when you seat on them...and also I recieved yesterday the door lock surrounds...thanks to Kutukutu1 for making them... they are awesome like every other part I have ordered...
That it's for now.... I'll keep posting the progress....
Well....after looking around I managed to find a in like new condition Racing Beat Road Race header..
Got my intake stripped of all emissions crap...now waiting to get the block off dates I ordered from LRB. Got it clean, painted and did a little fitting to see how it looked😉
And finally painted the TMC lowering springs...waiting for the rest of the front end parts and then they'll go on the 4 corners of the old girl....
Well....all for now...I'll keep posting updates...
Hi guys...it's been a while.... been working crazy hours....
So. I just installed the taillights with the new taillight to body rubber seals and the taillights to body gasket....looks waayyyy better than the old ones ...
Hey guys... I painted the center trim on the front and rear bumpers, changed the bulb sockets on the fenders parking lights and changed the license plate bulbs to use #194 bulbs and changed them to leds, changed all the rear bulbs to leds and instead the painted Mazda emblems on the front and back. Also painted the window frame on the door.
For the moment this is all I've done. When I get the parts ordered I will do an update...
