Ok so after a couple weeks of thrashing I got the car to the GoodGuys show in Lexington this past weekend and ran it in the autocross
. What a blast. First time getting on it. First time finding out where it would stop. I need to dial everything in now but I am so happy with the way the car works. Front end just sticks to everything. Rear was getting a bit loose but it was cold and damp and I had way too much pressure in my rear tires. I still had so much fun. can't wait to run it again. We camped out of it over the weekend. Great thing about a hatchback! Was able to fit all my stuff in there.
well the Goodguys shows are mostly American iron so it got some looks. Most people seemed to appreciate the work I put into it. It was the only Japanese car I saw there. Saw some Beetles. The fun part was watching people trying to figure out what it was.

Haha, I remember from Roadkill that the goodguys people weren't exactly thrilled with swapped Japanese cars.
It is an iron block with iron heads. I have brand new aluminum big port heads when I get a chance.
i have not corner weighted it yet. I still have a lot of suspension tuning to do. But it a journey that’s just started. Going to be fun dialing it in.
So for the flares I taped up the bondo/foam waxed the heck out it and laid the fiberglass. Once it cured I popped it off used it for a template, trimmed all the old flare underneath leaving about an inch and bonded it on.

Reason: Addition
Yea that’s what I read is that 50/50 weight distribution was pretty easy to get. Makes me wonder about mine because my 8.8 is way heavier than the stock axle.

Yes, honestly a little rear bias isn't a terrible thing.
So glad you are getting to play with it now! Engine placement in an FB is really quite awesome. When I was building my race car I messed around with a plastic LS mock-up engine we had in the shop. It fit REALLY nice......set back was WAY better than any Mustang save for a V6 S197.

I can't even begin to explain what it felt like finally getting to run it around the cones. Needs a lot suspension tuning but thats the fun part!
LS in an FB is definitely a potent combination and it does fit nice. Don't even need a huge scoop to cover it like mine has. I have Aluminum big port heads sitting on the other engine. I think I'm going to throw them on over the winter.
It was overcast, cold, wet and I had way too much rear tire pressure but what a blast!!! I have pretty crappy Sumitomo rear tires which I'm planning on replacing with some Toyo R888R tires. My front Toyo's stick like glue. The car was level in the turns, steering felt really good. brakes work great. I think minor tweaking with shock settings and tire pressure and it should go pretty good.
Kick ***! Glad you are getting to drive it! I'm itching to get my Mustang out at an autox and the race car on track! Here's hoping 2019 is a good year.
Awesome to see that you have it out on the road! Finally getting decent weather to enjoy it
i wish I had more time to drive it. We’re working on our house to get it ready to sell. But the upside is I’m going to get a place with a shop. I’m working out of a one car garage right now and it sucks. I’m either going to buy a house with a shop or have one built.
I drove it Monday and I have another exhaust leak. I’m having a hell of a time keeping the flange gaskets on the block hugger headers to last. I have the headers wrapped and they get hot. I’m thinking about just welding the down pipes and not worry about it anymore. The exhaust is leaking in front of the wide band O2 sensor so it wasn’t really happy.
Decided to see how easy it was to add vinyl stripes. Turns out, it's not that easy. LOL. but with patience and finally getting my girlfriend (yes I got my girlfriend to help because she is great at stuff like this) we got the dry carbon fiber look stripes on the car the way I wanted. Stretching that stuff over the hood scoop was by far the hardest part.
Yea and I get to take it all off when I finally get around to finishing the bodywork and painting the car. Probably next year. Guess I better hang on to my girlfriend.

So been a few years. Been busy. Remodeled a home. Built a new home/shop. Finally out of the one car garage. I have made some improvements since I last posted. The wrap and wing being the most apparent. I’ll post some more when I get a chance.
