Yes, I would run a tap to clean up the threads in the housing.

For the carb, keep it simple. Like others have said, stay with the stock carb. I would even suggest staying with the stock emissions. You wouldn't believe how many new RX-7 owners think that their going to get tons of horsepower by changing carbs out only or do a rats nest delete and then complain because they cant get the car to run or it runs like crap. Since this is a 12A, the stock carb works really well.

Does anybody still "modify" or "boost prep" these?

Yes. Anybody can do it, its not that difficult. I recently found a video of a Edelbrock 1405 being prepped for blow through. There is also one for a Holley 4150. I'm sure for Webers too.

Ok I'm going to have to search the internet for that I'm gather parts right to just do one big update with alot of pictures
