ran into a pretty....annoying... problem with the downpipe. At first, it rubbed against the exhaust-housing of the twinturboes, so we shaved it down abit:

Then, when we test-fitted it, we saw that the hole where you fit the lambda-probe, was totally in the wrong place....! The downpipe is of unknown origin. Good quality, but i suspect foul ebay-play by the one who sold it to a friend of mine(JDM TT), who couldnt use it, so he sold it to me... and i got the cat in the bag....

Anyways, its not my friends fault. Ill just have to fit two new bunges, or whatever you call em, on the other side where it should be

All in all, a great day!

Got a package from NVMYRX-7 today! Superseller, great guy to deal with! He even followed my instructions to make the brand new in box Eibachs look used, so he dusted them up and made em look dirty, and wrote a "thank you for the wires" and tagged "trade" in the export box. Got em through customs without having to pay Norways silly 25% import tax.

Brand new in the box Eibachs. Approved by Dennis!

also, i hung up the front bumper and placed the hood on top just to dream abit , knowing that my baby is on the road again in about a month

Saturday, nothing-to-do-day! So, we do some work on the FD.'

First, i introdused and paired up the newly aquired eibach springs with my old yellow Konis:

Fitted the rear callipers:

then, i had to modify the front underpanel to fit both the FMIC, and the radiator i was to lower abit to get more room up top:

Had a radiator built for me locally by a friend of mine, and he welded up things abit off, just a few mm, so i had to widen the lower support holes for the fan:

then, i started to fabricate some new lower radiator mounts, to fit the radiator a few cm to the front, and lower:

Radiator sitting nice and low:

threw up a IC pipe just to see how low it was:

Cut out hole for the drain bolt:

like a glove:

Also, modifying the undertray abit to let in cold air from underneath the car. Cut a gap 5-6 cm behind the bolts that bolts the tray to the 99spec front, and im going to space out that gap so its even and flows good. a plus, it wont be visible from the front, and air will have a nice trip through the rad, and out the big ventilations in my hood:

Hung over-day, so time to do some work on the 7 to get the body working again

Bolted up the suspension and swaybars today, and fitted the wheels just to "dream" abit

jacked up the rear, to see how low the eibachs are when they are not broken in, i recon they will drop alittle more when they are used abit

I can also lower the spring-cup another 2 cm on the shock itself, if it doesnt get low enough, ill do that.

Also, have some clearence-issues i have to sort... they juuuust rub, its 3-4 mm, so i have to roll the lip inside the fender to solve the problem:

but, we are getting closer by the day! Paid shipping on my longblock a few days ago from legio here on the forum. He is crating it now and shipping pretty soon I cant wait!

Man, the FD looks so sexy from the rear!

Awesome thread!!

Your problems sounded familiar for me, i mean i bought my fd in the end of 2007, got screwed by a self declaimed fd - experts and so on. End of relationship, and i now changed my home for the second time ( just finished moving ).

So what have i done in the meantime: rebuilt the engine, but a lot of work still to do. I will finish my project ( and show all the guys who doubt that it wouldnt drive anymore )

So i have a lot of respect for your enthusiasm! Keep us updating :-)
Do you go non sequential?

Hi!

Sounds like you have had pretty much the same path through life as i have had. Put an image of a finished FD on your wall, have a page of notes of what to to with it, and strike off point by point every time you do something, and you will se progress every time you do something

I have had my fair share of doubters amongst my friends, and those who doubted is off the "pick up after a night out on the town"-list

I`ll be going sequential mode with the BNRs, and max em out. Love that insanely long boost-range! What route are you going?

Finish your project as i will finish mine. I recon im done in about a month. I`ll race you there

I doubt you will race me, because my progress is very slow.
For example, my plan for today was to install the front mount intercooler. I guess for the most of the guys here it sounds pretty easy. I also have an instruction manual, with pictures, but with japanese text.
Well, i thought it wouldnt be a problem - wrong. So i just wrote an email to my former japanese teacher, i need translation :-)

Im going non sequential with stock twins. I mean this fd specialist rebuilt the rats nest once or lets say it said he rebuilt it. Well there were some plastic nipples off and he fixed the hoses with glue to the plastic. Every fool will know and realize that this wouldnt hold.

Then i rebuilt the rats nest myself. Car ran but had no power.
Well, then i finished with the stock car, my goal now is to make the car as simple as possible ( with twins ). You have to know that i got my car from ebay uk and the car was an absolute mess - so many guys tried to do something on the car, but always only as cheap as possible ( or wrong ). So i have to double check near everything, especially that broken engine harness...

But back to you, maybe lets see sometime at gateborg? :-)

Hehe, i had a similar problem with my FMIC. I decided to chuck all the mounts and other crap, and make my own stuff
In my thread here, you can see that i cut out the front member and used the lower hoodlatch bolt for top mounting, and the lower front member bolts as side bolts Works like a charm

Ah, ye, the rats nest is at least intact here, but the hoses need replacing. I will start that procedure soon, and i would rather watch paint dry...

It warms my heart that you dont go the path of least resistance like the previous owners. Look at it like psycic therapy. Once you`re done, you know the car inside out like I do, and you use it as a metaphor for rebuilding your life.
I replaced my old wiring harness too, it was like dry spaghetti! The previous owners who threw in a mazda reman engine, pulled out all the plugs by pulling on the wires and not the connectors, and thereby exposing the copper wires, witch started to oxidise and corrode... And the salty weather up here did not help...

Gateborg? You mean Gatebil, the awesome car-meeting up here in Norway?

Another day, more to be done!

Used the rest of the exhaust bandage i had on the mid-pipe. Didn`t even get halfway through it before i ran out. Well, something is better than nothing.

started to bolt up intake pipes etc to the twins, just to sort stuff and have as few loose units as possible

Discovered that the intake-set on the car was a trust-set. Im pleased!

Got my "new used" AST from ebay auction today. Unknown brand, but looks pretty good. Anyone know if its from a known manufacturer?

Found broken pills, fixed em with superglue

started to clean more old parts to make em look new again

HELP!
Is this ground in the right spot?

Gatebil, yeah :-)

I know, this picture is again from an JDM FD but it seems that there is no difference between US and JDM with that grounding point:

I like your progress in repairing/rebuilding!

You are not alone

While reading your post I realised that some people choose a path in life for a certain reason. When two people who have never met before and have thousands of miles between them share so many things you start thinking...

I share the same Citizen Aqualand watch I saw your wearing while working on the car ( and dive twice a week )

I am sending some photos. One of my car and one of my dog. Can you see the connection?

Nice build thread. I like how you take everything apart, clean it, and paint it. It makes everything look new. Also the Norwegian landscape look very nice. Get a photoshoot done, when you finished with it and keep up the good work.

you will love the seq in the car with th bnr. i was tuned for 18 psi and was wanting more but ran out of fuel with 550/1300, so if you plan to go more id recommend something bigger..

i wish i have the time and money for what you have been doing... mostly the money, because i have the time. would love to freshen up the car
