I would like to put braces on the drivetrain, but not before I do all the bushings. And, I'm slow AF to install stuff cause I dunno why.

Picked up some cool old Mazda bags for the hatch and got some more keychains.

Edit: Found a couple extra shots from earlier this year

Put the leather cover on the Ikeya Formula Sequenshifter and wired up the gear selection indicator. Need to find a good night to dial in all the adjustments on the shifter, but it goes through the gears pretty good. Every once in a while it will be stubborn, or get lost between gears. Maybe try a new shift handle. One of them crystal jobs?

Who am I kidding? I can't hold out on y'all. Doin' it for the gram, too. Handle is seven_wagon if you're on.

I had a chance to adjust the shifter. It's 95% dialed in and really nice. The cover definitely helps reduce the chatter. My 2nd gear is grumpy when it's cold, and it's not the shifters fault. Just the 1-2 upshift is a little harder than I'd like, and slightly chunky if cold (3-2 down is butter). I'ma find another chance to try and improve that, but I dunno if I can cheat it.

Project list is still a mile long. Trying to get ready for 7 stock. I have some more weird/fun stuff to put on. Found a tiny electrical issue I'm chasing slowly. Re-doing the gauges cause Defi discontinued my red-racers. If we're gonna get electrical, it might be a whole thing. Audio? I dunno. Tune in to the next episode of Dragon Ball Z!

Another build thread is called the village bicycle. This one should be called the eccentric's unicycle. Haha. And plus 2 extra points for the word eccentric.

Defi Advance BF 60mm in a Drakes Quad Pod

Sorry for the bad picture. All the contrast gives the iPotato a heart attack. Better pictures pending.

Well, the Ikeya formula fairy dropped a bunch of shifters on YAJ and I picked up a parts shifter. I am confident I could swap my bent lever for this straight one. The parts shifter comes with no platform designation. Might be able to identify, rebuild/restore, swap some parts, and send it to a good home.

Next, I'd really like to do the vacuum hose job and fuel recall kit. But, I've been so busy. The car was on stilts for so long just getting some easy stuff done. Life has been crazy. I think I'll just drive it for a month or so? Some good shops are close, and my time economy has gotten uncomfortable. Rather do it myself, but might have to take her in

It would also be really cool to mount one of these old school wheels I've picked up. Kindof a shame to rip the bags out of a 94 dash. Thought about swapping to a 93 dash with 94 plastics. Or maybe, just leave it original.

If you're enjoying it, please follow on IG (seven_wagon). I never insta'd much but I'm having fun sharing the car there, and trying to mix up the content.
Thought you guys would like more pics and less words here, but seems like you enjoy the stories in the build section. I'll try to write something up for the gauge install debacle and other weird stories.

I changed the thread title.

"This Old FD" was actually the car we started this thread with (94 MBM touring, which needed love, circa 2011 - 2015).
"Rx7 Wagon" is the car we're working on now (94 MBM base model, with the wagon hatch, 2015 - current)

Couldn't think of anything cheekier in the moment, and it had been bugging me.

I was looking at one of those shifters for a CD009 swap, but there were way too many bad reviews and horror stories.

I think it's mostly people don't know how to adjust them and set it up properly

Agreed.

To be fair:
  • It's not easy to set up
    • A bit of art and science
    • Multiple iterations
    • Japanese instructions
    • Probably do it yourself
  • Normal people can no longer drive your car without a lesson
  • Transmission needs to function as new...seriously
    • A robot with no emotion now shifts for you
If you set it up bad or wrong, use it on a wounded transmission, or let an idiot drive it you *will* grenade your transmission.

Are you set on CD009? That seems like a good choice. Have you seen the video of the 20b setup with the DCT?

Kinda blows my mind. It's like a dog box without all the regret.
