WHAT?! I've had this car over 16 years and never knew there was a second tray for the tools! Now I must have one.
They come up on ebay and yaj pretty regular. If you're missing tools, they are the same as NA MX5 and other period mazdas. So, you can piece one together with a little effort.
This will be interesting and different,, here is a description of the device. SEQUEN SHIFTER
Never got the point of that thing untill i read this. Easy shifting when racing, even if you still have to clutch you dont need to bother about navigating the H-pattern in "speedmode".

No ****?! Thanks for the heads up!
Now where do I find the blue cargo strap in the hatch? lol I got on a kick a few years ago buying parts that were options or just missing from my car, starting with the plastic piece that slides into the glass sunroof and then the coin/card holder in the MAP pocket. I'm starting to get that itch again, thanks to you. LOL
Finally installed the LED headlight kit from @AZieger
The quality and packaging is very impressive.
And, the light output is night-and-day better than stock.
I'll have to get some pictures later of the light output, but it is awesome.
Feel like a real car again.

So, just wanted to mention that I think JP3 is now making 3d printed trays that fit where this upper portion that the US cars didn't come with.
I saw it pop up on my ebay feed and grabbed one. I won't post a direct link since idk if that's against the rules, but thought I would mention it here since this thread is where I also became aware of the existence of that extra tray.
can you have a handle made that goes the right (left) direction? That's the sequential shifter right? how do you like it? and I just noticed you have dual storage cubbys, no audio?

The easiest option is to have it cut and welded straight. But, the kink hasn't been a big deal so far. There were other shifters with straight handles which I'm convinced will fit, if I could locate one.

It's fun and it works well. The trick is to set it up properly, which is not straightforward. I'm still working on the setup. @BlueTII also has one, and his impressions are spot on. He also has some vids in his build thread.
It makes noise, and it's clunky. Not great for lazy cruising. But, it makes banging the 2-3 shift a no brainer. Makes me wonder how sick it would be with a Liberty Face Plate setup.

I have the original radio out for repair, I hope. Just being lazy about it. The car makes lots of great noises, and we take the bluetooth speaker for audio.
Liberty face plate with the Sequenshifter was my dream too because I confirmed with Liberty the engagement throws would stay the same as stock (so, work with the slots already cut in the Sequenshifter drum).
But....
what I am recently afraid of is if the windlass catch on the Sequenshifter drum would be robust enough for how rough faceplate engagement can be (I've hear it makes your hand smart through the shift ****).
On my old mystery FD trans if I to bang 3-2 downshift coming into the sweeper off the straight it will clear out of 3rd but wont catch into 2nd and I have to push it forward again to catch into the grumbly 2nd gear synchro.
The windlas catch pops out of drum engagement before there is enough force to grind 2nd- like it would grind if you were shifting rough by hand with H pattern.
Maybe a windlass catch spring strength was specifically selected to help save synchros and could be swapped?
I do believe I have seen footage of S chassis that was being drifted with dogbox (slightly different than face plate) and Sequenshifter. The shifts were bangin!
kind of a neat idea, but every time I watch a video of one of these shifters it seems kind of questionable over a good trans with good manual shifter (not worn/sloppy). Nobody really bangs it imo, just the usual shifting speed/time.
seems to me it might be better to upgrade to the 1st - 3rd triple cone synchro internals of the updated RX8 version of the same transmission that was offered every where except the USDM

Yeah, you can't go faster than the synchros. But, the syncros are faster than I am on the H pattern (except 2nd gear, when cold). I think the primary benefit is not being able to miss the 2-3 upshift from drivetrain twisting.
Honestly, the thing is a step too far, and I'll probably switch back to a rebuilt stock shifter. If I croak, I'd like my fam to be able to move the car. Also, the FD is nostalgic for me, and this is totally novel. Neat place to visit, don't think I want to live here.
