Man, what can I say? I'm left a bit speechless with your comment as well. I almost don't feel like I deserve the compliments. I thank you. And I hope those who have helped me out with their advice and mentoring see this and realize that these compliments are derived with their efforts as well.

 

So the motor is pulled out and Kilo said one of the injectors is potentially leaking. Not from the diffuser or metal grate but possibly from the body. He sees stress cracks on a couple of them.

So He is installing a set of 99 injectors he knows works well. I asked him if we should take them to get cleaned and flowed and he emphasized that they are good and work well.


He also looked around the turbos and thinks some lines are not correct for the secondary turbo. Ill confirm with him tomorrow when I stop by to drop off the new emissions harness I just dished out.


He said that it is his recommendation to replace the harness since the car not only has 155k miles and is 25 years old but because a couple of clips are broken and the wires are brittle. FML

The car has been in the shop since May 2nd but because I had to order parts along the way and wait for them to arrive, is wait pushed my car back from getting fixed any faster.

And its funny that David Hayes was there pulling out my motor on my car. I saw his car there when I dropped mine off and it looks fantastic.

 

Even thought the cost of a new harness is expensive, i think it will be well worth the money.

 

I mean the motor is out. Everything is off the motor and so it's an opportune time to get it done and never worry about it again. Hope I can gain some ponies with new wires lol

 

Do it once do it right. Cost may be high up front but in the long run it will be cheaper. You could go the cheap route and end up paying for it in the end.

 

Thanks for the encouragement that it's the right thing to do. It sure helps Jeanne and I out with our decision financially and not just wasting our time and money.

 

Definitely not wasting your money. The new wiring won't have hidden gremlins which you will never chase down. Plus, OEM is the way to go on wiring as you know it's done right.

Looking forward to progress on the car. Now that mine is out of the way, it should clear a path for you.

 

Im heading over to Kilo Racing now to drop the harness off. Ill have more pictures taken once I'm there.

Kilo said he is going to pressure wash the bay and even do a light coat of paint on the inside for me.

Photos of the motor out and whats been done so far. New OMP lines, New fuel dampener, New pressure regulator, new primary to secondary fuel line, 99 injectors, New injector grommets, New oil squirters. The work continues tomorrow with the harness and the rats nest.

So I just got off the phone with Kilo saying that my car is ready but it really isn't.

I right now am very let down and disappointed so this post might have more of my jumbled up thoughts from the conversation I just had with him.




He stats the car is ready but the secondary boost issue is still acting the same.
(this is where I want to loose my cool after everything I had just bought and still need to finish off paying him the remaining balance for the job.)

He says that It sometimes works but its not working all the time. ??? (How does this happen?)

He says that there was an exhaust leak on the manifold where one nut was on tight but wasn't tightened completely down because it was locked up. He also said there was an exhaust leak with a burnt gasket where the Downpipe meets the mid pipe. He said that he replaced the gasket. He said there was a rattle in my mid pipe OEM catalytic converter and that he say the honey comb material was blown out and side ways and might have been causing blockage. So he removed what he can out of the two cats.

He suggested getting a magna flow aftermarket cat. But other then that the car sounds beautiful and is very quite. Unlike before. ( I thought it was already quite and I could have sworn that Marc and I fixed and and all exhaust leaks.)

He also said I probably need to invest in an aftermarket boost controller to see if that works out my boost issue.

But I asked him what about checking the vacuum hose routing? He said that He made sure the routing was perfect and even had a stock fd in his shop to make sure he did everything correctly.

When Marc and I performed a Poor Mans Non sequential the car boosted 12lbs. When I say poor mans sequential, its tying the valve open and disconnecting the secondary system and capping off ports.

We had zero boost leaks and it worked perfect. But thats not what I want to do with my car. I want a working stock sequential system.


So he installed the

OMP lines,

motor mounts,

oil pan brace,

99 injectors,

new oil squirters,

new fuel lines to primary and secondary,

new tps,


New fuel pressure regulator

new fuel dampener

egr delete kit

efini y pipe with new gaskets,

New Emissions Harness


and the twin turbo set still doesn't work. I'm at a lost, I'm frustrated, confused, and quite frankly pissed off as I feel damn embarrassed for what I spent to get this car running perfect and it still isn't performing the way it should or could've been aftermarket.



He also can't get the 99 fog lights to work with the console switch inside the car. He checked and there is no fog light relay. I said that the 93 oem fog lights worked before I switched bumpers and fog lights. Its a 93 touring and wasn't added later on.
The fogs work when the headlights are on and the switch is engaged.

 

Sorry for the frustration, give rotary performance in TX a call and get a consult. They specialize more on stock configurations than some other shops that focus more on builds. I'd also review the sequential function threads on this forum. Arghx had some real good ones.

It sounds like a sticky solenoid or bad actuator or valve to me, but I'm no authority and I know you've been through some of that stuff.

 

I just called back and He said he was able to get the light to work with the switch. For some reason the wiring needed a ground in order to turn on.

 

lol I know you arent in the greatest of moods but that was pretty funny.

Stinks that car isnt running like it should.

If you are within 4 hours of Dale, i would take it to him and see if he can help you.

 

Johnny, about the fogs, we were hooking them straight up to the original oem wiring and they didn't turn on. That's why it was confusing. But I'm happy you got a laugh about it. It lightens up the mood.

You also forgot to mention that when we poormans non-seq it and had all the vac lines capped it boosted 12-7-6 aswell and then 12 throughout the rpm with the only change being enabling the seq in the pfc. Like I said that day, someone needs to pull the UIM and pressurize the system and hit the solenoids directly to see the mechanical response. You have too many new things for this not to be working.

 

^ Kilo will get it figured out. I know it's frustrating (trust me, I know ) but he will find the issue with the boost. As we all know, the FD's boost system is crazy complicated and when you throw in 23 year old parts, it's a nightmare to diagnose.

As for the exhaust leaks, I helped to remove your downpipe and mid pipe and yes, the gasket between the two was blown out. Had no idea about the catalytic converter but I had that happen to me one time, where the honeycomb melted into a big blob and that kept the car from boosting properly.

I agree that it sucks to have this many new parts and not have it working like it should. If I remember; you've replaced a missing clip, changed the turbo control actuator, all new solenoids, and new wastegate/pre control solenoids, and even new turbos yea? Have you toyed with the ABV, charge control, or charge relief valves? If a charge control or ABV are leaking (essentially the blow off valves for the primary and secondary turbos) those can cause low boost. If your charge control valve fails to open, that can also cause cattywampus boost.

Hope you get this sorted. I know the feeling of shot gunning parts at the 7 and it not fixing your issue. :/

I've read that sometimes new solenoid valves fail (they may be almost as old as the original), so they should be checked as well.

It's just a matter of troubleshooting. Ruling out all the variables. Unfortunately, with this car, there are a lot of variables.

One thing to look at is if the vacuum hoses were replaced with silicone, are they binding anywhere.
