Pictures of my winter project...

Well, this is my new winter project that I picked up last week... or should I say rescued... haha. The previous owner meant well, but had more of a Ricky Bobby meets fast and furious mentality.

Disclaimer: The veilside front bumper and side skirts will be removed ASAP and immediately taken to the dump... where it belongs It will be replaced with a 99Spec bumper and feed sideskirts. The entire car is getting a paint job as well. The wheels are the next thing to go. Just wanted to clear that up... I can't have ppl going around here thinking that I like the veilside stuff... haha.

Well, the car is rough around the edges but has a pretty good platform to work with. The car had pettit turbo's on it that went bad. I have a few sets of twins laying around and thought about throwing a set on, but decided to finally take the plunge and go single. I picked up a T78 turbo kit with a Pettit coolcharge III Intercooler(thanks to David Jerome from Speed for sale). The car will also be getting a new exhaust, a Koyo N Flo radiator, relocating the battery to the trunk or bins, and a bunch of other smaller things like the greddy elbow, oil catch can, polishing work, switching out the 1300 secondaries for 1600's in a new rail with an FPR, etc, etc. This is by no means a new set up as the T78 has been played out many times since the late 90's. Anyways, this is just the start of the thread, I will be taking pictures of everything and documenting over the next couple of weeks and posting pictures.

Brent

More pictures. Note, picture 2 is of an old school RE-A SMIC. You don't ever see them anymore. It's really dirty right now, but shines when it clean. Picked up the SSR GT1's because I got a good deal on them. I will prob. paint them gunmetal, but they are just a temporary fix until i find a set of wheels I really like.

Picture 1: SSR GT1's
Picture 2: RE- A SMIC
Picture 3: New Koyo N Flo, New Apexi exhaust, HKS dp
Picture 4: The rest of the turbo set up... and my new wireless card. J/K lines and fittings are in the box.
Picture 5... bye bye twins!!

It's not that bad... it's red. Some ppl like it, others don't. It has grown on me over the years though. Overall it's not in bad shape. It needs a little work, but nothing I can't handle. However though, the seats were recovered ~5000 miles ago so they are in really good shape. Main problem I have right now is going through all and taking out all the crap the previous owner installed. I'm removing basically all of the wiring he did to include his amp in the hatch, the aftermarket alarm with remote start, and stereo and speakers. Currently there are too many wires under the dash and I don't trust the work of whoever installed them. I am pulling it all out and then will rewire everything so I know it's done right.

At least you live close to Garfinkle. He and his son can take care of all your polishing needs...lol He's a great rotary resource. I spent many a nights with him when I had my car.

Yeah, I remember all of the polishing Garfinkle did on your car. I was going to have him do the same if I kept the twins, esp. the y pipe BTW Heath, I almost bought your old set of BNR stage 3's.

Ah, you YOU got that IC! I was second in line.

Man, that looks like a fun project! So I guess you bought it running with bad turbos? Did you get a pretty good deal on it?

Should be sweet when it's all done!

I got the intercooler from David Jerome. I pondered the FMIC route, but I don't think I could get enough air to the radiator to cool the car since it's going to be a street car. Yes, it has a large streetported engine with around 10,000miles on it that was built by a good friend of mine that does very good rebuilds. I got a pretty good deal on it

Looks like you've got a lot of work ahead of you, being so close to a place that can polish everything up is a benefit. Thanks for rescuing this FD from ricer-dom. How much did you get it for ?

It won't be too much work, just finding the time to do it will be the big issue. I'm just going to say I got a pretty good deal on the car

Not sure yet. Once I get everything done mechanically, it has to go for a paint job. After that, I will prob. bring it to Clarksville.

KaiFD3S.. Can you shoot me some pics of your tow hook? Which brand, how you mounted it, etc. I'm interested in getting one for my FD.

Not to much progress this week. I worked all week(Infantry Officer). Drove into town today, fooled around for about an hour. I went ahead and took off the UIM and throttle body to get them polished as well as get ready to put the new fuel system in. I picked up a set up 1600cc in a rail with FPR, a wideband, and a dataloggit. Also did a little test fit with the Koyo N flo. I am hoping to have the majority of most of the parts in by this coming week minus the fuel system(have to send off the injectors to have them cleaned). I still have to call Ray at Malloy on Monday and get a few gaskets and what not(found out the TB to UIM gasket was in 2 pieces). I will have all weekend off next weekend and plan on installing pretty much everything. The wires from the alarm are really starting to **** me off so I started to take them out tonight. Still trying to decide if I want to keep Power Steering and A/C. More to come in a week...
