yup, thats me! you know i watched him try to sell that car for 8 months and i tried fighting it, but in the end i broke down. i love the color and i wanted a low milage r2. when i get home i will post pics of all the goodies and installs that i plan on doing. i have 20 days this r&r, so hopefully i will get everything done. i wish i had multiple rx's but i think one is enough for now.

Small update: I now have around 1300 track miles and 1000 normal miles on the car and have had no issues out of the car. I have another 20 days at the track planned between now and December. I have checked and rechecked most of my stuff and have had zero issues(knock on wood) with ANY bolts coming loose. The only hiccup I've had was due to a ziptie breaking and ripping the HKS twin power out of the car. All of that was documented here:
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/hks-twin-power-yes-can-take-beating-keep-ticking-856929/

My LC-1 is still giving me error codes. That's my priority for the week. I'm guessing it has something to do with the grounds.

Everything else is working as it should be. I feel like I'm starting to get the suspension dialed in little by little and am becoming more and more comfortable with the car in general.

I also have a few other things to go in once I get the wideband back to being operational like the fast reacting IAT sensor and a new coil harness(had one laying around so I thought it's about time to replace my old one).

One of my favorite pictures:

Wheels and Tires
18x10 CCW Classics with 275/35/18 Hoosier Grand Am Challenge Slicks

I have put around 4,000 track miles and a few thousand street miles on the car since Mid June and have enjoyed every minute of it. I really didn't have any issues this year other than a couple of very minor hiccups. I ran the car on wastegate pressure at 13lbs and never really had the car fine tuned.

The Water Temp never gets above 86C and that was when the outside temp was 95+F outside.

Oil Temps in spring and fall stay around 180F, in the heat of summer I see 200-210F during 30 minute sessions.

Air Intake Temps are in the high 20/30's in spring and fall, and can reach low 50's in the heat of summer.

Suspension I feel like is a good conservative starting point. The car feels very balanced and predictable. I think the springs could be a little stiffer.

Brakes are great! They are prob. my favorite part of the car. I ran PFC 01's most of the year and I like them more than the DTC-60's that are on the car now. The DTC-60's are still a very very good pad though.

Here are a few video's of the car:

Road Atlanta with the gf riding shotgun:
http://www.vimeo.com/7747840

VIR with NASA-MA:
http://www.vimeo.com/7033915

Road Atlanta with NASA-SE running TTS(skip the first 3 minutes or so unless you like to see us warming up tires):
http://www.vimeo.com/8048508

A few pictures:

However, I'm dedicating all my time and efforts to my other track car for next year. Thread is located here:
https://www.rx7club.com/race-car-tech-103/tweakit-racing-93-ls1-fd-track-car-build-875889/

I'm not really sure what will happen to the silver car in the meantime. Time will tell I guess.

Funny what all changes in 3 years, car looks different, girlfriend even looks completely different Everyone always says they are going to do this or that or whatever with a car. Glad to see someone follow thru and actually get enjoyment out of a car they put a lot of effort into. Now if I could just convince you to sell that damn yellow car

haha... yeah, what can I say? A better deal came along As for the car, after starting off in a very frustrating situation, all turned out well with a little help from my friends As for the yellow car, you'll warm up to it once you get a ride in it.

This is a very competent track toy but I'm betting it's the yellow car I see in my mirrors

Hopefully this winters projects will include rerouting the dump tube

Look forward to reuniting the other half of "Almost" Racing in 2010 and you and that lovely lady of yours have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAP HAP HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm going to be running TTS with the yellow car next year and run a restriction on the intake to limit horsepower, but not torque I figure it'll be easier on the car so I can get those extra miles out of it. Plus I'm going to need a little extra something to hopefully keep you from lapping me

That little wastegate? I wouldn't worry about that dump tube... Maybe I'll go with a twin scroll... with the two wastegates dumping to the atmosphere. Only kidding! Nah, the silver car won't get much attention for a while. Not sure what it's fate is.

"Almost" Racing will be back 100% and pissing off all those high dollar cars come Feb. Speaking of which, the Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge is at VIR again next year on July 23, which is the Friday of the NASA event. You in? Hope you and your girls have a Merry Christmas as well. Charlie is getting a track day for Christmas. I'm sure he'll have a blast and get to relive his glory days.

While we are talking about Christmas, funny story... Laura keeps asking for earring for Christmas. I keep giving her a hard time saying "I just bought you a new helmet... that was several hundred dollars. I'm wrapping that up for Christmas." At first, she was kind of laughing it off, but now I think she believes it and starting to get a little upset/sad about it. It's turned into, "Are you really giving me the helmet as Christmas present" and lots of sad faces. Well, I bought the earrings as soon as I knew that is what she wanted and I have hidden them inside the helmet and wrapped the helmet up. Looking forward to tomorrow. This should be funny...

I sold the MB car a month or so ago... it's going to be a 20B car now. As for what happened to it. .. The second week after I got back from Afghanistan the wall at Barber got me... I think it was a combination of too much air in the tires, getting them too hot, and not enough track out as I was already opening the wheel to the right when the car snapped to the left. That was followed by me not pausing in between corrections to settle the car. I was lucky it was all minor cosmetic damage. I pitted in and had the car checked out and went back out and finished the session, but I'll be honest... I was VERY timid after that the rest of the weekend. I wasn't timid because of the crash, I was timid because that was the first time I had really lost control of the car and not been able to save it in one form or another and it gave me a reality check, which I'm very thankful for. The whole time I was sliding back and forth I was saying "I'm good, I'm good" and I obviously was not good. Glad it was just cosmetic as that was the second session of the first day of a 3 day track weekend.

Crash video here:

Damage wasn't bad at all.
Right after it happened back in the paddock:

It was a well covered event. Phil(herblenny) was there and actually got a mini burst on his camera as it happened:

There goes Peppy(who just bought an FD) in his RX-8

Not to mention my dad and girlfriend saw the whole thing as well... I was subject to a hard time from all the rest of the weekend!

Oh well, that's part of it.

for what? the MB car? I sold it as a roller a while back. I was just driving it a couple of weekends at the track when I first got back into the country until the silver car was ready for the track again. I drove it around quite a bit on the street after that as it was a very solid car. It was a 95, which all the 95's I've ever owned just seem to be much "tighter" cars than the 93's. Put a couple thousand miles on it. Only drawback was it was nonsequential, which I don't really enjoy as much on the street as I do my sequential FD.

So a little bit of a wrap up on this car. I continued to track it at the end of 09 and into 2010. I did a couple of track days in Jan 2010(temp was ~30ish).

Me and one of my good friends about to take some novices around the track to show them the line.

Baby ducks:

As part of my dad's Christmas present, he did a track day with my car... as me as his instructor He's been racing stuff all his life, so he was no stranger to the track, but was a stranger to my rice burner... haha.

What the car normally looks like on Monday after a track weekend:

In Feb 2010, I headed to VIR for the NASA-MA season opener. I was super excited about it. What normally takes me about 10 hours of driving, ended up taking me closer to 24. I hit some pretty significant snow storms en-route and had to stop for a while. This was after it had let up a little:

I also dropped off an engine somewhere in NC, don't remember where though.

I finally arrived on Thursday evening and get all my stuff set up. I am scheduled to do a test and tune on Friday, and the TT on Sat/Sun. Friday morning goes off without issue. It's probably low to mid 40's. I run the first session. I don't remember why, but it was a really long scheduled session. I do remember that I drove for around 45 minutes that session. Alot of people use the first session of the weekend to shake the rust off and assess the track/car. I took a lap or two to get my brain, car, and tires up to temp. After that, I was 10/10th's. It's like therapy(or something like that )... you have all this stress in life that you go through on a daily basis that will build little by little, then the snow storm and the extended drive time.... then you get out on track and get to blow your(coined from Fritz).... uh, I mean "release your stress". A good first session really sets the tone for the rest of the weekend. After 45 minutes of rotary FD awesomeness, I get out of my car with a perma-grin.

The next session out on about the third lap coming through hog pen, I breathed off the throttle. As I rolled back into the throttle, I had a bad break up. I pitted immediately. That was all she wrote. Blown engine. Same rotor it always is, despite the GZ LIM. It obviously ran lean, but actual cause of failure is undetermined. All of the fuel system was tested and fully operational. Air/Fuel's were good. The car prob. had 6-7000track miles on that engine/tune without issue and had been ran in colder conditions... as well as 45 minutes the previous session. Something shorted or hiccuped. Who knows. I never will. I hung around the rest of the weekend to instruct as I still had a student obligation... but it was miserable. Not only am I missing basically a 3 day track weekend that is 500 miles each way, I also scored no points in TT.

As some of you know, I had picked up someone else's aborted project(my yellow FD) in Nov. 08 when I was still in Afghanistan. Once I got home in May 09, I didn't really work on it that much as I wanted to enjoy the track alot more than I wanted to twist wrenches. I had a spare rotary engine sitting in the garage and could of had the silver car back operational in a weekend(I think a day). However comma, I also knew that if I did that... the yellow FD would be put on the back burner again. So alas, the silver car was pulled into the garage and parked indefinitely.

I had a bunch more pictures I was going to add, but my internet is so painfully slow, it' not going to upload them.

Still sitting. I've stolen some parts off of it the last couple of years, sold others. Still not sure what it's fate will be. Time will tell.

After a painful start due to trying to figure out some one else's project, the yellow car has served me and my track addiction well.

Yellow LS1 FD build thread here: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=875889

Big thanks for all the help on this car to David Jerome, Dan Chadwick, Mike Lashlee, and Fritz Flynn. As always, I get by with a little help from my friends.

I've been following your updates on facebook, but this one must have slipped by. Sorry to hear about the engine. It's a little hard to feel bad entirely when you have the yellow LS FD as a back up toy but it's still bad news nonetheless.

How did your dad do at the track day? I'd say get silver back in shape, and bring them both out for some good old fashioned family bonding out on track.

Good luck and stay safe in Afghanistan. You're back for a little while right?

The entire car is getting a paint job as well. The wheels are the next thing to go. Just wanted to clear that up... I can't have ppl going around here thinking that I like the veilside stuff... haha.

Well, the car is rough around the edges but has a pretty good platform to work with. The car had pettit turbo's on it that went bad. I have a few sets of twins laying around and thought about throwing a set on, but decided to finally take the plunge and go single. I picked up a T78 turbo kit with a Pettit coolcharge III Intercooler(thanks to David Jerome from Speed for sale). The car will also be getting a new exhaust, a Koyo N Flo radiator, relocating the battery to the trunk or bins, and a bunch of other smaller things like the greddy elbow, oil catch can, polishing work, switching out the 1300 secondaries for 1600's in a new rail with an FPR, etc, etc. This is by no means a new set up as the T78 has been played out many times since the late 90's. Anyways, this is just the start of the thread, I will be taking pictures of everything and documenting over the next couple of weeks and posting pictures.

That is quite unfortunate haha. The veilside kit is horrendous IMO. Oh well, at least it's in the hands of someone who has much better ideas for the car.

Thanks dude. I'm not too worried about it(as the engine blew 1.5 years ago). It'll sit until I get the time to mess with it.
