New to Me 2JZ FD3S
Hello all! My name is Alan and I recently acquired my first FD. Let me start by saying while I had always intended on acquiring an FD at some point, I never could have imagine acquiring one quite like this.
I got the car about a month ago from a friend of mine who previously had owned a Supra. After that car met a very untimely end, he pulled the drivetrain from that car, dropped everything into an SC, and then that car met an unfortunate death as well. After a string of bad luck, he pulled the drivetrain a final time and coincidentally ran into this.
It was a rolling chassis FD with an automatic transmission. He acquired the car, ordered the subframe and mounts from Tech2, and swapped everything into that car.
From there he was restationed to Germany and some point in the last couple of years the front suspension collapsed, the fuel pumps went out and,the focus on the car changed. The car has sat dormant the last couple of years, down but not out.
My friend got out of the military, came back to Atlanta, and then took another job back in Maui. Shortly before leaving, we began talking about the fate of the car as it was sitting in storage, in Germany, collecting dust. He had recently started another project and after a few hours drinking, and going back and forth, I became the cars new owner.
I've arranged for the car to be brought back to Atlanta as of last week. The car is scheduled to be picked up from storage next week and should arrive in 4-8 weeks.
This the second car I've bought sight unseen so I'm hoping to keep my streak going as the last car I bought has been great to me, C5 Corvette I gave to my dad.
With all of that being said all I have knowledge wise of the car is what I have gleaned through several conversations with my friend about the car, and pictures I've stolen off of his Facebook. Here is what I can tell you about the car:
1993 RX7 w/100K+ on the cassis (I am now the tenth owner of the car)
2JZGTE+R154 utilizing the Tech2 Swap Kit
Built Bottom End
Stock heads
GT4276 Turbo on a T4 Manifold
4" FMIC
4" Exhaust
AEM Standalone Fuel Management System
Twin Aeromotive 850lph Fuel Pumps
880CC Injectors
Here is what I know needs to be addressed:
Front left suspension is blown
Turbo, Wastegate, Exhaust Manifold, Intake Manifold, and exhaust need to be reinstalled as well as intercooler piping
Power Steering Pump and Water Pump need to be reinstalled
Accessory belt needs to be reinstalled
A/C needs to be reinstalled (Motor does not have a condensed on it)
Radio Doesn't work
Seats are torn
All of the stuff I need to get the car running again is coming over with the car. The rest of the stuff I will figure out once I physically have my hands on the car. All of the parts associated with the motor were removed to facilitate the removal of the power steering, something I intend to keep.
My goal with the car is to make it a daily I can take to the road course and within five years run one lap. As I said the car will be picked up next week and I have asked for pictures to be taken before it gets loaded onto a flat bed bound for the port. But without further ado, here are all of the other pictures I have of the car.

Alan, not all of our members are this rude. Again, if you know each other and this is a joke, I apologize for not getting the memo.

I'm hoping you know each other and are joking? This is not how we want our community portrayed. While we are a rotary forum, we also have a subforum for those who have non-rotary cars. All are welcome here.

I've got a couple of shots of the subframe installed in the car that I can dig up for you before the motor was installed. In regards to the transmission, it's a pretty simple bellhousing, clutch and fly wheel swap. You just have to get a driveshaft made to work with the rear end

Is that stock subframe ?
For the Geàrbox is there other options and is it possiblw to to use stock box with bell housing ?
Ive not realy looked into it
Does the gearbox still mount to power plant frame ?
Other than the custom prop with your setup what are the major mods

Edited the above post show before and after on the subframe.
To be honest, I'm not sure that whether the stock FD Trans can be used. I've never looked into it.
As far as other tranny options, the only other one that I know that will work is a T56. Again you have to change the bellhousing, clutch, driveshaft and flywheel. The best option really and one I'm looking into myself is a 350Z gearbox. As strong as the Supra Getrag V160 at about 1/3 the price after changing the above items. I'm just not sure whether it will fit in the car without modifying the chassis itself.

When you get your car, shoot me a PM. I'd love to meet up and check out the car, talk shop, and make friends. We run a small tuning operation south of the city (mostly Subarus) so you're welcome to come down to our little shack or we'll meet you at the Varsity or something.

Lol! Funniest comment I've read all day.
Alan,
Welcome. Here in the rx-7 club you will find all types, rotary die hards, rotary haters, non rotary indifference, ect. Personally I fall into the indifference category. Which means if it is supposed to be a rotary and it isn't then I lose interest. But I am a firm believer that its your car and you can do whatever you want to it
Like I said welcome, there is a lot of knowledge here. enjoy it.

This site HAS a V8 and Other engine conversion section and it is On ..WTF?..an RX7 CLUB???..WOW!..amazing...!
So I think that was overlooked when that statement was made.
I Hate to have One person's opinion speak for this Site as a whole so that is why we have a variety of Members with different builds in different styles.
More power to anyone who is able to show their sweat and initiative by making what they want to make.
Who cares what it is powered by,it still has a Mazda RX7 Badge on it,and If someone wants to keep their car alive they can give it any kind of Transplant they want to keep it beating..
Last time I checked it's your money..Party hearty,..have fun!

The Advans will be coming off the car, as well as the 42-76, part of the deal I worked out on the car. I'll be using the 42-76 for awhile just to shake the car down after putting it back together to make sure that the mechanicals are sound.
I plan on going with some Work Meister S'1's, Tein EDFC Coilovers, 99 Front Bumper Conversion, Bride Seats, Bolt-In Half Cage, and Harnesses.
I I'll most likely plastidip the car red at some point until I can address the fenders and front bumper properly.
I'm chomping at the bit to get my hands on this thing but alas, I must be patient. Feel free to leave input, suggestion, comments, whatever. I'll be chronicling the build here every step of the way.
I'm crossing my fingers that this build doesn't go completely sideways on me as I'm breaking my own rule of never buying someone else's project but given how well I know the previous owner, and my access to knowledgeable people, I just couldn't help myself.

Subscribed! I'm not a huge fan of v8 swaps...that being said I'm always in for a crazy 2J setup! Regardless of preference, the 2J is a nasty motor and that combined with a rx7 chassis makes for a wicked machine capable of performance that can intimidate the most die hard rotorheads and v8 swappers alike.
Preference aside again...performance is performance and fast is fast. You don't mess with a big single 2JZ swapped 7 unless you are rocking a TT V8, a 3 rotor, or a 2 rotor built by god.
Good luck with the build!

Alright, update time.
Got an email from the shipping company this morning, and it wasn't the email I was expecting. They went to go pick up the car this morning and since the car has been sitting for a year if not longer, the brakes are locked up. Now normally this wouldn't be a big deal but given that it's on another continent half a world away and, that it has to roll, brake, and steer on its own to be shipped. This presents a problem. I'm waiting on the previous owner to call me back to help me arrange to get the car in a shop over there somewhere to get this resolved so I can get the car moving.
To be continued....
