New FD Owner
Hello everyone!
I recently bought a 1993 Efini RX7 Type R with very low mileage. Since owning the car I have began the pursuit of a delicate balance between reliability/performance/keeping stock appearance (ish).
So far I have replaced all fluids, repaired a rear main seal leak, replaced the clutch and flywheel, and installed an Apexi intake.
The car came with a cat-back exhaust and a Pan Speed chipped ECU. I have ran it on the dyno as a baseline and found it's putting 255hp to the rear wheels. Additionally, I identified that its peak AFR was 13:1 on the third pull.
Obviously this is alarming so I have ordered an Apexi PFC, FC Dataloggit and WBO2 kit in an effort to reduce the AFR back so a safer number.
I also ordered an HKS downpipe to reduce engine compartment temps.
Anyone with advice or tips (especially with tuning a rotary), please hit me up!

Snag up a Supra TT fuel pump and you might be able to just pull those back in check. A Fuel pressure reg wouldn't be a bad idea either!
This forum is full of stuff on tuning RX7's too. I've tuned mine fairly successfully myself on a Haltech and a wide-band.
Check this out! also the FAQ on the forum is fairly robust too.

Thanks for the good info. That sent me down a pretty deep rabbit whole. I also found some info on guys re-wiring their fuel pump due to excessive voltage drop in their harness. Idle was fine but at WOT they were getting a mere 11V at the pump, causing them to lean out. Interesting.
What kind of knowledge base did you have regarding tuning when you started tuning your FD?

I tuned civics originally. I've popped a few too. I actually get alot of hate for it but hey it's cheap, easy and fun.
I looked for a challenge to my skills and found it in the Rotary!
I'm pretty much 70% internet trained. The rest came from books, friends and experience.
Look around on how to tune Air Fuel Ratio's aka AFR (easiest part) and then ignition/boost control is really the magic sauce for most looking to make power. Not too much not too little.
The more you understand how a motor works the better you will be at tuning/trouble shooting issues. Youtube has abuncha stuff too. Although forums are mainly what I utilize. I've been lurking for years.
Have fun! It's a fairly deep rabbit hole!
