ceylon, i love that spiritR tach!

quick question: do you have any idea where i could buy only a 99+ (or spiritR) tach unit without buying the entire cluster?

Either direct from Mazda or second hand at auction for a '99, haven't seen a spirit one come up in a long while at auction.... Or buy mine, its for sale atm .

So its gone from an agricultural oil cooled T04e to a water cooled T04e/s hybrid, rebuilt using all genuine Garrett parts .

Need to get a reverse threaded nut to secure the comp wheel, polish the comp housing & weld a v-band flange on the rear housing then shes done .

Most of the parts were from turborebuild.co.uk. They had to import some bits, but it all arrived within a week or so & the costs we're quite reasonable. Seems pretty easy to get hold of T04 parts .

Last coat of lacquer on, will need to be buffed to make it shine, but I don't think it looks too bad .

Great work! When I see things like this my last months as a poor student seems like an eternity!

I'm both impressed and extremely jealous!

Looking good! Did you spray it outside? I've heard you guys get a lot of rain in the UK, did you have to time it for the weather?

Thanks! Yeah we get a fair bit of rain, but the humidity is more the issue here, its been super high all winter. Its just starting to get nice out now, though. I've been spraying it outside, but inside a gazebo to keep off as much dust etc as possible .

I will be getting the exterior sprayed professionally, don't trust myself with that bit .

Picked up another S8 OMP, cant hurt to have spares

Swapped the 30th anny gauges into the UKDM housing to retain the UKDM warning light locations. Also converted the speedo to mph, moved the mileage chip over & removed the now redundant cruise control module.

Got a fair bit done on the interior, all the plastics and vinyl parts have been either dyed or painted satin black, looks much better than stock imo. Nice to have some interior in the car .

The seat isn't scratched, its just the light picking up the weave

Heater panel is from a 2001 model, as I needed it to be green backlit to match my 30th anny cluster.

Cheers guys .

The Regamasters are 17x9 +38 all round. I'll need a small spacer in the rear, shouldn't need one up front as the Project Mu disks act as a small spacers themselves with the aluminium bells being thicker than the stock disks.

They'll be getting new tires before being fitted .

Nice build. Are you happy with the project m caliper pistons?.Is there any noticable difference in weight-and finally do they come with a seal kit?

I haven't driven the car yet, but I imagine they work just fine. The pistons are 66% lighter than the originals, the difference in weight is very noticeable when they're in your hard. They do come with a seal kit.

HTH.

Quick question about your steering wheel; did you have to remove the whole airbag system? or did you just remove the harness for the wheel itself?

I've debated doing this but I don't want the airbag light to come on.

Most people simply remove the airbag and remove the bulb from the cluster to stop the light, which will work fine.

I've removed the airbag ecu, crash sensors & every wire of the air bag system. Its surprising how much it all weighs. If you do do this, only thing to note is you'll need to run a new wire to the horn switch, as in stock config the horn switch ground passes through the airbag ecu. Its easier than it sounds, just need to run a wire from the front harness connector in the footwell to the horn .

Would be very easy to do on your black car as its already all in bits .

Worked on the headlights a bit. Fitted new bushes in the motors, painted the motor housing & headlight frames. Replaced one bump stop that looked a bit past it...Generally just tidying up so they can go on over the weekend .

Fitted an auto dimming mirror as I have one in my daily and quite like it - Once you've had an auto dimming mirror there is no going back! .

Got the battery in the rear bin and wired up, still a few small bits to finish off. All the electrics are working fine. Alarm was a bit of a PITA to sort out as it didn't like being without power for 2 years, all fixed now, though .
