Matt P's 95 type RB from stock to erm a whole lot more

Hey everyone,

Thought id share my build with you guys, i know that a few of us from the Uk are floating around on here so i hope you don't mind one more poking his nose in.

So here is my 95 type RB that i picked up from a vendor on a rotary site in the uk, bone stock down to the stock rear exhaust too!.

It had just been rebuilt so was under strict instruction to take it easy for the first 1000miles to let it all bed in. In pretty much no time at all i finished this and the first round of mods was carried out. They were fitting Coilovers all round, ali rad, a/c deletion, uprated discs and pads all round plus replace a couple of worn bushes and fit a sump brace kit, this is pretty much how it stayed most of last year.

Then i carried out my first runs up at Santa Pod last October and that's when the bug really hit!. Managed to run a 13.7 @ 104mph then a 13.8 @ 105mph.

So when the new year came round the hoarding of parts started!.

Probably my most favourite mod so far, picking up a set of rega's 9" fronts and 10" rears covered in R888 tyres.

These pics were taken outside my friends workshop while we were getting everything ready for a track day at Cadwell Park - this would be my first ever outing on track!.

Looking super filthy and it was properly used in anger which i loved and it!. It ran all day without fault!. 3hr drive there, constant abuse all day and 3hr drive home.

Only needed another oil change and i whipped the plugs out and changed them for good measure.

So after the outing at the track i got in touch with Powergains motorsport here in the UK. Jaydee and Kerim really know the ins and outs of rotaries and what setup's will work with what your requirements your after.

So after having a really informative convo regarding what it was i was after i set about finding a donor engine that i could give them to work there magic on. I managed to find an engine that had just been freshly rebuilt and run for circa 300ish miles, so a trip down to portsmouth to collect it was in order.

A couple of weeks later i managed to get down to Powergains to drop it off where jaydee said about stripping it down in front of me just in case something might be a miss, i'm bloody glad he did this as the following pics are not pretty!.

Oh dear......................................

For nearly £1200 what i thought would be a sound engine to start from i was left with a block that i really could only use half of!

To say i was gutted was an under statement as the engine had been rebuilt by a reputable builder in the u.k. Its all water under the bridge now and jaydee and kerim have rebuilt it all back up as a Halfbridge ported motor with a OSG Twin plate clutch kit on the back.

While the block was being rebuilt i was busy at home removing my stock engine and turbo's so a fellow rotary head could buy it,

Next up i picked up a genuine greddy T88 manifold and wastegate,

Which i bolted my Turbonetics T72 too and stood back in awe

Sadly the 4" V-band adaptor fouls on the standard LIM, doh! so a little modification is being carried out on it at present so it all fits together nicely.

All the time i've being taking delivery of more parts,

Super rare ARC front and rear anti roll bars,

Pretty much how she has been layed up all summer

Getting stuck in with some elbow grease cleaning up my Trust rear can, soon to have the can cut off and welded to a full 4" exhaust system.

Managed to find some FEED clocks on yahoo auctions and guess what, i won them!!

Really cannot wait to get these fitted, that was until i picked up one of these to power the car!, which tbh i got for a bloody good deal.

It looks like now ill have to sell the FEED clocks as the racepak dash will look very good and i cant run both!

Bit more being a buffty cleaning the engine bay, removing nearly 20 years of dirt and grime was lets say a bloody mission!!

Now the block is back in, so close to getting it all finished!.

Last but not least, genuine burnout front wings and a concept-7 low rear lip, when these will go on, god knows?!.

Got a million and one things to do plus me and the other half have to move in a couple of weeks which will be pita, just hoping to get it all done by the end of the year!.

If you have read this far, thanks a lot!......any response is welcome

Hey

Im looking at modding a standard clock suround to make it fit, will take a little fabricting but hopefully it will come out right.

Quick question regarding the racepack, have you got the speedo to work?. One of my friends has one fitted on his FD and the only thing that is still not working is speedo. If you have any tips on hot to get to work that would be great

Hey dude!!

Hows my old engine now?, did you get all mapped up by jay in the end?.

Hoping mine will be done by christmas as its going in to Powergains at the end of october to get finished. Just ordered some AEM coils and a couple of Haltech parts from america so hopefully will have those by the end of next week.

Also got Blitzboy's old cosmo UIM and LIM to go on, they need a little modifying as the ports dont match up to my half bridge ports from Jay and Kerim, so all in all it should be running in over winter and back out for spring time next year for some cheeky shake down runs at Pod

I have the GPS unit so it uses the GPS antenna for speed

I do have a VSS input in the haltech and use it for changing boost duty cycle by gear you just need to enable it if you have the patch harness otherwise you need to tap into the wire for the VSS.

Hey dude,

I guess bristol is sort of local well 140miles ish

Its a bloody expensive fetish i know that much, ran some numbers on RHD for a few other body parts and lets say that i wont be getting those until my numbers come up!.

I cleaned the engine bay with Gunk from halfrauds, they had the red spray bottles on special so i picked up a couple. It sure shifted all the crud from the engine bay and i was mightly suprised with it. Still think and engine bay spray will be the way to go but thats a long way off im itching to get the car running so i can enjoy it again

Im mucho jealous of yours though! always had a soft spot for monte blue FD's

Is that the one thats in the logging dash?, mine is the normal IQ3 dash. I will double check when i get home from work later just to be sure.

Thanks for the tip regarding the VSS, i have the patch harness for ease of fitment. Have to admit its a bloofy imp[ressive bit of kit!

Hey,got it mapped to 0.9bar but my avcr had a bad wire so the boost didn't go up.But it still fast enough to kill a new mazarati :-p Got my devils-own AI-kit to up the boost to 1.2-1.4bar but first a have to fix my oilpanleakage ;-)

Yours is the non logging model

Since you have the patch harness then it is easy

setup>main setup>inputs enable DPI 3 and set it to "vehicle speed source", Rising

Then go to the VSS tab and set the pulses per mile to 1650 that is what worked for me. Yours may be different because I am assuming you use KPH

I am unsure what you need to do to make the IQ3 display the speed it may do it automatically.
