With the new Aero, you will need to add one of these

Some new pics from today's adventures

First you'll see my parent's enormous feline Stripes, he is admiring my new Works Bell short hub and adapter ring for the Nardi wheel.

Next pics demonstrate the benefits of my Sard magnetic drain plug, this after approx 1000 miles with the new engine. I drained out the Royal Purple synth break-in oil and filled her up with Idemitsu 10w30. I also have a large magnet on my oil filter as well, but didn't chop it in half to inspect. Btw, still not one drop of oil leakage on the engine (knock on wood).

Next few is an obscure OEM mazda part I had sent over from Japan, I'll never know if it works or not but at least the install was a breeze

Last pic shows the current stable at IRP---3 VRs, 1 CYM, 1 CW, and also 1 BB and 1 widebody race car inside.

Edit: one other thing I forget to mention....I installed a set of almost-new coils on the car. They had some miles on them (less than 20k), but from looking at the coils and the bracket it's evident they were only 1, maybe 2 years old. Compared to the original 16 year old coil packs that you see, regardless of mileage, there was a huge difference in appearance. Anyway, after swapping these out I noticed my FD runs smoother and seems to have more power. You can actually hear it in the exhaust note, my friend (and fellow FD owner) who was at the shop commented on it also. I'm going to see if Ray can add them to Round 2 of the Summer Sale

According to the mazda parts fiche that is the correct way to bolt it up and it fits perfectly. Do you have any mazda parts diagrams that show something different? thanks

that's a pretty flimsy excuse to get your cat on the web... and i hate to break the news but Stripes doesn't really look all that interested in your steering hub. maybe catfood off camera?

i like the magnetic drain plug. a search for it just returns Nengun. is there any source for them closer to home?

thanks,

hc

Ok, i wasnt very clear with that.Basically the bolts go through the underpan(like you did)and then bolt to the 99 rebar-see the red cirlces in the attached image.Hope this helps.

What's the deal with the thing you bolted onto the bottom of your undertray?

Quick update:

Spent the afternoon street tuning with Kahren. We went as high as 21 psi on 93 octane with the water/meth (windshield wiper fluid) injection. The street tuning ended up being pretty time consuming (in part due to a crapped out ISC), and a blown intercooler coupler didn't help matters...... it sounded like a shotgun went off under the hood

On the dyno we only had time to make a few pulls at 13-14 psi, resulting in right around 400 rwhp/300 rwt at 14 psi. On this same dynojet we recently had a customer make the same power and torque with a fresh ported engine (stage 2 vs my stage 3) and a T4 35R setup but at 18 psi. Given that as a comparitor I'm pretty happy with the results thus far. The tune is very conservative and is such that even w/out the water injection it's safe to run. Kahren did a great job with the tuning and I feel he is the most thorough tuner to lay hands on my FD yet, and I've had a lot of people tune it over the years.

I will say on the street the car feels very smooth and damn fast on that low boost level, certainly better than before. I raced a sport bike (think 750cc) from a 40 punch up to about 110 mph and pulled him by about a car

P.S. Thanks to Scrubby, Stitch, and my brother Ryan for their moral support and assistance with all the bugs during the day

Hey Rich, any chance you can post some dyno graphs? Curious why the torque is quite a bit lower then mine with the same HP.

I too wish to see the dyno graph. Great numbers at such a tame level of boost.

Thumbs up

Below you'll find a dyno sheet from one of the later runs when intake temps were around 45 degrees so the power was down a bit (the dyno we were at needs more/bigger fans). First run the rpm pickup wasn't working properly, that one yielded right around 400 rwhp.
