Heard from Pettit on Friday. Chris from Wolf USA flew from CA to FL to assist with the install of the Wolf 3D EMS in the car. Heard it went very well. The car was up and running on the base map.

Cam from Pettit is supposed to tune the car early this week. He's tuning it now for a break in period (1500 miles) so it will be very conservative in what it is capable of doing. After the break in, I'll bring it back to Pettit for its final tuning. Am planning on posting both dynos for comparisons. Tyler from Pettit has promised to send pictures!

Update!!

Yes, Herblenny, the thread is pretty long. And some of it actually pertains to the 20B conversion! FYI - I still think the lighted RX8 shift know I got from you in the group buy is one of the best purchases I have made to date!

Just got off the phone with Tyler at Pettit. Looks like the car will be ready sometime next week for pick up. They, with the help of Chris Greene from Wolf, got the car up and running late last week. They've been driving the car this week data logging (can't remember the name but it's a wideband unit) and Cam plans on finalizing the tuning next week. I'll then pick up the car, drive it for 1,500 miles or so, and return for a "real" tuning where I'll take another dyno of what the engine is capable of in torque and RWHP.

Decided, after talking to Tyler, to swap out my Eibach Pro-Kit springs and Tokico shocks for a Tien Coilover kit on all four wheels. This will give me a great suspension and allow me to control the height of the rear setup, reducing the gap between the wheel and fender flare kit. Should look good.

Pettit is faxing me the final "punch" list to ensure we've covered all of the modifications that I'm interested in.

Sorry for the lack of pictures to date, but once I go to pick up the car, I'll take some of Pettit's shop as well as of the car. Here is what Tyler sent today. The engine:

Great news! Now, don't forget that you have to (dis)prove that 6 psi + 20B = 375 RWHP.

I took home my 13b street ported Pettit rebuilt motor early this month for the break-in period, and Cam limited my boost to 6 psi, and it feels stronger and faster(seat off my pants) than I've ever felt before. Can't wait to go back a finalize a "real" tuning on that 13b.

I get misty-eyed just thinking about it. I feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside...

Exactly my thoughts. They look so....wimpy lol

A cpl quick questions...
- You running a FMIC? Cuz I couldn't see an IC in the pics...
- Does the greddy elbow not mate w/ piping going to the TB, or is the angle not proper for the piping coming to the TB? Cuz I thought the 20B uses the same TB as the FD...
- I spy an ABS unit. You get to keep everything else? (Power steering, AC, etc)?
- Does the engine sit low enough to use a stock R model strut bar? Cuz I see you have these "adaptor plates" on the strut towers...

David, Glad to hear that.. I'm also trying to do a 20B conversion.. and very interested in your set up and how its going to perform.

David,
I think it was worth the 30k just to be able to see your spark plug wires at the coil.

Two thoughts:
You shoulda lost the power steering.... and are those *white* centered wheels or is that just glare?

The people I know that have gotten rid of the power steering have regretted it.

I think the project looks terrific. The engine bay looks almost OEM, which is a testmant of Pettit's attention to detail. Which Tein coilovers did you purchase?

I don't know anyone who has ever said they regretted losing the power steering.

If you're one of those women who have to crank the wheels from lock to lock while the car is sitting in one spot before you start moving because you can't do two things at once, then you'll probably want to keep the power steering. If you're smart enough to realize the car needs to be rolling to reduce the effort of a manual rack, then you'll be just fine. At high speed, there is NO comparison. Manual racks rule.

I run a converted rack and like it.

Cheap shot. I used to have a TII with a manual rack and it was a total pain in the *** to drive in the city. Ultimately it comes down to what you will be using the car for. In my case the loss of steering feel due to power assist is worth not having to strong arm the car in and out of parking spaces and around tight low speed corners.
