I picked up my FD a few years ago. Here is the starting point back then, might post some previous work eventually but i havent really take much in progress stuff until now.
Over the holiday break i wanted to tackle the shelf of parts i have been accumulating throughout the year, at least on days when my garage is liveable to work in the current heat (Australia).
First up are the metal deadpedal and wide accelerator pedals from Sakebomb. Was a bit annoying that the deadpedal didnt come with any hardware to install but a trip down to Bunnings fixed that easy enough; get the feeling its been removed before in my car as i think im missing one of the nuts to hold it onto the tunnel; but thats gonna happen as the sixth owner of 25 year old car. Accelerator pedal was dead easy to install, after watching a youtube video the day before it was pretty clear even that level of prep wasnt needed and it was in under 5 mins; but iv learned my lesson not to make assumptions with this car after the first suspension job taking my 5+ hours (its now like a 1h job max because iv done it like 4 times now). Also took the opportunity to zip tie a bit more of the cables around the accelerator as iv always been able to feel my foot brushing them as i drive it and it just worries me in gonna catch one of them some day and rip something out.
The slightly more complex job was the RHD passenger foot rest. I dont want to (yet) drill holes in the floor for rivnuts as my passenger sear is decorative anyway (currently held in by two of the four bolts for seat too large for car reasons). So i decided to try and just build some sort of bracket to hold it in place as its really just there to look cool anyway. Again trip down to Bunnings for some sort of metal i could bend by hand, grabbed some black aluminium bar and started at it. By happy accident i drilled the first hole off center which ended up helping with the side clearance on where i attached it, the just started bending to get it flush with the floor; idea was to make something sort of like the brackets that hold car mats into place. Bolted it to the standoffs which i think are meant to protrude though the carpet / sound deadening and there you go. I would cut the standoffs off but im not 100% sure i dont want to rivnut it in future.
Yeah the black bracket for the footrest is something i just made up to stop it moving around as i drive around, not the prettiest thing but you cant see it anyway so it'll do. And yeah its a Type R Bathurst R, wish they made RZ's in this colour but they dont so im going to have to make one myself its the first colour i saw one in real life and it made enough of an impression i guess.
Yeah i have a bit of a collection of them, that one started it but iv got nearly the whole JDM FD set now.
Finally had a cooler day on my RDO so go to work messing around with the drivers seat, its really the one least in need of fixing but im putting off doing the passenger seat as iv already made a bit of a mess of the seat mount and dont fancy fixing it yet.
So these are Bride reps, because i just dont fit in real ones; these are 5-10cm wider which also means interference issues between the seat wings and the door given i have the seats back as far as they will go. Drivers side is a Recaro seat mount which already works better than the passenger one which is an unknown model but still jams a lot as its doesnt move the seat close enough to the tunnel. After making a complete mess of the passenger seat mount in an attempt to slot the holes that go to the floor, which sort of worked, i decided i would just cut off the end of the seat wing and maybe stuff some extra padding into it if it looked weird. Door closes without resistance now which is great, was worried as the plastic ages it would break due to being deformed slightly every time the door closed.
Next job you can already see above was repainting the metal parts of the seat, the reps used a crappy grey colour that just stood out too much, tried matte black to start with because i had it lying around but went out and grabbed a satin as i didnt like the matte look here.
Finally i recently picked up some new floor mats for the car as the Feed ones that came with the car were looking pretty poor these days. Im not very nice on the carpets in my car and regular wear holes in them so having them stay where they are and not move around is kind of important and has been annoying me with the old Feed ones, so i picked up a thing and bolted it into the seat rail to hold the new ones in place.
Next cooler day im going to have to start on the passenger seat, first fixing my fuckups on slotting the rails then maybe ill cut the side oof the wing off that one too as that was a much easier fix than slotting the seat mount holes.

Reason: Fixing images maybe
Had to remove **** on my Recaro SR and, when the seat back was tipped forward poked a hole in my doorcard.
Oh damn, yeah mine seat is pretty far back and out of the way but it would definitely be possible if someone shorter drove the car which is possible. It does seem to be poke-able though to the other side on my seats but nothing keeps it there but friction, will need to find a solution to keeping it on the tunnel side. Thanks for the warning.
