yes lets get together! i need some more FD stuff going on around here.
gordon, the touch screen is only a monitor, no self-contained carPC. i installed windows7 on the macbook air and am using it to connect to the haltech via USB, and using the display OUT hdmi cable to the touch screen.

FD officially survived its first track day. and it didn't only survive, it did very well.
we went to road atlanta for a single day event. the car did very well, but i had to be in the novice class, as it was my first time at road atlanta. it ended up working out well, and i got a great instructor, who was a fellow rotary guy (rx8).
coolant temps never got over 195, and intake air temps didnt get over 140.
i'm not totally comfortable with the intake air temps, as they're borderline high, but this was at Road Atlanta going about 145 in 5th gear.
car was basically perfect, and i got two totally clean laps following a 2008 911 turbo, who couldn't lose me on the track! best time was ~1:50. of course the 911 was faster, but i am happy i could keep up with this guy.
pics to follow
it does not overheat. the black area on the back of the macbook air that you can see in the pictures is the heatsink, which is exposed when it's mounted in the storage bin. it did not get hot (verified with my core temp program). seemed to work very well.
had to fix a fuel leak on an injector (bosch ev14 primaries, ID2000 secondaries)
made a nice heat shield for the LIM and put some gold foil on it.
made it home

no idea what the lap times were, but when i was running with him he was about 1/2 second faster than me around the whole track.
brake setup is HT-10 pads front and rear, RBF600 fluid. brakes were amazing.
other handling stuff is hankook RS3 tires, stance GR+Pro coilovers, front swaybar brace, front strut tower bar.
also, ran out of time to edit above, we also changed the diff bushings the weekend before:
also replaced all the tail light bulbs and cleaned the tail light area.
speed bleeder for the win

Nice! Did you have John or Don as an instructor? You should check out www.garx8club.com when you get a chance. That's where all the RX-8 guys talk track stuff. Really good group of guys. Mark puts on some really good events.

Cool! John is extremely fast. He's been focused on his family the last couple of years as he has a couple of young ones, but he still makes a few events a year. He is OnRails on the garx8club. The big event for us is always the December NASA Road Atlanta event. It's always alot of fun on and off track. We post up on the hill by 10a. Quite a few people camp out. Drive all day, eat some good food and have a few beers at night. You guys should try and make it out if you can. I'm going to try and fly in from TX for it.

link to the 3rd session (6 total) when i had john in the car instructing. linked to 14:22 when we got out of traffic and me and the 911 got some space. notice him walk away from me on the back straight. that thing was fast.
and sorry for the 9:16 aspect. had my buddy's crappy Flipcam mounted sideways and didnt know it couldn't be set to accomodate the mounting. it's still watchable though.
i had a faster lap later in the day (chasing the 911 again) but this one was almost as fast.

i love the sound of these precision anti surge housings

i've had a nice few weeks off of working on the car
but my metalwork fabricator friend is back in town now.
i'll be swapping my turblown manifold out for a non-warped replacement i got from Elliot with the correct MVS flanges on it, which he says will not leak.
so i'll be doing this, then my buddy will be remaking the downpipe and wastegate recircs next week. the current downpipe has been hacked up a few times and was made in a rush to make it to road atlanta, so this will be re-done and all high quality.
excitement.

i used a friend's "flip cam" and didn't know the camera had to be pointed "up." so we had it recording sideways in the 16:9 ratio. you can't watch it sideways, so we had to flip it with software after the fact, which made it the same area as 16:9 widescreen, but top-to-bottom instead of left-to-right. does that make sense?
i just bought a sony action cam AS15 and made a mount on the rear strut bar. the test videos (of my morning commute to work) are MUCH better. 1080p@60fps with SteadyShot. here is a link to my youtube channel if you're curious, gordon: https://www.youtube.com/user/jacobcartmill/videos
the latest video of the FC drifting is with the new camera. check it out.
