GTR203's 96 efini type R massive overhaul

I've been meaning to post a build thread for quite a while now. I'll start with a little about myself , this is my second rx7. First one was a 93 efini type r that left a very bad taste in my mouth so I abandoned it a few years ago and sold it off. I am primarily a Nissan guy . I have built quite a few cars that are in my collection, 91 skyline Gtr , 89 skyline gtst type m, 95 Silvia k, g35 with vq37vhr 370 nismo swap being a few. I've always loved rx7s and finally got a chance to get another one albeit a complete project basket case. So I loaded up the trailer and made the 38 hour round trip to Tennessee to pick it up. This is my first time really getting into a rotary and I wasn't going to be defeated this time. Car has 38k original miles and was 100 percent stock when picked up although was hit in quarter and half taken apart. I picked it up in August 2015 and went right to work. So far this has been my favorite project to date and I'm having tons of fun with it building my dream fd.

Here's the car on pick up, a bit on the rough side

So I get it home and tear down begins and goes into body work I decided to go with origin labs overs but couldn't leave all that damage under it so fixed the quarter prior to wide body install

Next was to pull engine go over everything, single turbo and bunch of go fast parts. In that time I went through a few sets of fenders eventually landing on carbon feeds. Got a bunch of suspension upgrades some works I had on another car that made its way over and figured out a bunch of wiring. This is basically where I am right now I already bought a gallon of paint so that will ever doe as soon as all the fitting and blocking is finished. I finally got engine fired yesterday but fuel pump and injectors are getting No power. I'm going to put a few hours in today to try and find the issue.

Spent hours fixing all grounds and testing everything, still can't get injectors to fire. I'm abit frustrated as this is week 2 tracking this issue. No signal coming from Ecu injector wires or no power going to cas.

Spent a few hours today striping back harness and found a broken green wire, I'm rewrapping everything now and hopefully I'll have injector pulse.

That does look great dude, Good job. Its the same color scheme I used to paint all the chassis on the lowrider models I made when I was a kid. Too much fun. hehe

Here is how she looks all up and running , now that I know engine is good I am waiting on the power fc to get here, I have a legit sard fpf and doing 2000/850 injectors along with rails and an lines as well as finish up body work paint then get to the interior which I've been stashing parts for. Really looking for a bolt in 4pt bar but every one that seems to go up for sale is across the us.

Wow. Can't wait to see this project progress. That's a lot of work to get those 1/4panels right again.

Thanks! I really appreciate it, it took 40 -50 hours of pulling, swearing, rewelding and right placement of spots to pull it but it came out 98 percent. There's very very little filler in there. Even the overs, when I cut the qps I rewelded all the metal up made filler peices then ground it flat and did a layer of fiberglass smoothed that out so when the overs are off its all smooth and sealed. To think everyone who saw the car prior told me it was a goner and not to bother with it . Lol to them.

Thanks! I was afraid at first that it was a bit past my skill level but after getting into it and really putting some time in I impressed myself with how much it came out, a lot better than expected id say it was around 95 percent back into shape all lines are perfect now, gas door is perfect I couldn't ask for much more and the overs covered the very little amount that's not perfect. This car has turned into my favorite car out of all of them that I really don't ever see myself getting rid of. Today I got my base map done on the power fc, wired up and scaled in a gm 3 bar map and did shakedown of basically the whole car. Tommarow I plan on its first drive! Very excited it's running like a top sounds very healthy. The carbon feed fenders are being a bit of pain to get the lines perfect esp on the right side headlight area where it almost looks like the bumper shruck slightly as its not lining up perfect nor are the door gaps perfect so I'm still working on that. But should be in paint withen the next 2 weeks I hope!
