Decided I needed to stay true to my envisioned theme and stick with a roll bar. I traded off the Miracle Cross bar and scored a M2 / Raceshop roll bar Had it re-powdercoated in a Semi Gloss Black. This bar features a front diagonal, rear diagonal, and harness bar.

I'm still in the middle of finishing up the install, so more soon.

I like how things people usually do once and just live with the results... you are doing three times.

I am this way. I think most artists tear up the canvas a few times until they are happy with the final product.

It just goes to show that even if you TRY to "do it right the first time" and intentionally not cut any corners, it still takes more than once I guess it's all an iterative process and realizing what is better or what can be done better is usually ambiguous until you do it. I wish it were easier, but c'est la vie.

At least if you persevere, you will eventually get it right... eventually. Which I think is still preferable to settling and being complacent.

I was looking at these myself, but would want tinted "glass"... they do offer it, but I was concerned at whether or not it would match or how dark it would be. Did you look into that, or other options for tinting?

I personally wanted to achieve a clear look all around with no tint, so I did not look into their options. However, I was told that if you opt for their hardcoating, conventional tint cannot be applied because films will not stick.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Taking cues from LO7's build thread and his usage of thematic elements to set a tone, I shall incorporate my own inspiration:

Big Update. As usual, find my full, detailed writeups on my website: Grand Mighty

I abbreviate everything here, but let's get started.

Finished up the Raceshop Roll Bar install. I am convinced that if Mazda/Mazdaspeed was cool like Porsche and offered an OEM roll bar, this would be it. After installing and experiencing 3 different roll bars in this car, I can say that this is by far the best option available for the FD. It's fitment was spot on and had many thoughtful details. If you have a chance to scoop up one of these roll bars, do it.

Now for my new wheels: 18x9.5" and 18x10.5" +18 Desmond RegaMaster Marquis Promadas. I had them fully refinished and restored. Everything was done by hand and painted, not powder coated. This significantly raised the costs, but worth it.

Primer and Sealer

Painted a metallic gunmetal grey

Had custom reproduction inner barrel stickers made

Test fit

The tires are way to narrow for the wheels.

hate to say it, but i told you so...

what's with the little dick that attaches the the cross bar to the down tube? that should be a fish mouth joint on the bar directly. That **** would drive me crazy.

Fair enough, you can say it.

That "little dick" has threads inside and is how it gets bolted on to the down tube. I personally thought it was a unique feature.

Way more steel holding it together where the bolts thread threw than a fish mouth and tab connection for a bolt. Not that he will race the car but it's a legit bar that was certified. For a bolt together roll bar it offers some real protection and strength without having to permanently alter the car and weld the bar in.

As far as bolt in bars go it's as good as it gets in my opinion. I've had one I bought new. I know it works because one of my buddies rolled his FD on track with this bar and it kept the roof from caving in.

Agreed. I'm not saying that it's not good. All I'm saying is it's not grandmighty good.

If I did carbon fiber like that and I wanted to actually drive the car during the day I would get the Matte finish.
Wait until you catch your first eye full of glare off those things... lol

I agree, doing them in a matte clear versus glossy would benefit that end and also give you a dry carbon like look. Buuuuuut I swayed towards the other side.

Polarized fo sho.
