Thumbs up First time running E

Party Time!! E85 in the house!!!

Man you can’t party for any cheaper than $2.70 a gallon!

Had about 8 gallons of 93 in her and topped her off with 8 more of E85.
This brought the content up to 48% and I have my target boost set to 20psi at the content %

I did a couple of rips and at this boost level shes a different animal!!!
Crazy how it pulls!!

Boost is truly addictive!!

But now fuel pressures is dropping and I turned it back down to 15psi.
Gotta upgrade the stock lines and add a second pump next.

Once I get them upgraded I plan on running higher content % and higher boost to see how much I can push this efr8374.
I'm sure 24-25psi would be spicy

Stay tuned.

Steve

@Carlos Iglesias I'll leave the big boy (LOUD) fuel pump to you.

Ima low key streetcar guy, remember I still have windshield wipers

Just going to add another in tank pump (Walbro, F90000285) and have Haltech trigger it at a certain boost level.

Steve

Thumbs up Radium Surge Tank install

Had some free time to work on the FD.

The Radium Surge Tank is a quality product.. very thought out.
Going to be running a lift pump, primary pump and secondary pump.
Feed line is 8an and return is 6an.

Ill say the only negative is its a pain to drop in the fuel tank because its so tight and the fuel level sensor gets in the way but it’s manageable.
I suggest an extra pair of hands per the instructions from Radium.

Some assembly pics below.

Fuel Pumps in place

The radium stuff and wheels are first class.👍
Where was you boost set at dgrr? (15-17?). 24-25 psi is going to be a Time Machine. Awesome!

Thanks man! I hope you got your FD all sorted out

I was at 14-15psi during DGRR, yeah I'm excited to see how 22-24psi feels.

Steve.

She’s almost there. It’s amazing how much a working fuel pump helps with starting 😁. Right now she’s in the starting phases of a block party. All this talk of painting rx7s and mine was feeling left out. Should start priming the metal soon and then I’ll turn to the plastics.

Off topic: Did I see that you opt’d out of the DCT conversion?

Looking forward to seeing you at the Dragon in your FD

Yeah, DCT dreams are on hold for now... It'll happen one day though (3rotor with DCT).
I still have Neals rotary kit but sold the HGT GCU and trans.

Thumbs up R3 clutch work for Stevie!

Stevie came home from work about a month ago and said his clutch sounded different.
So I checked it out and sure enough the throw out bearing was whining.
He learned to drive manual on this car so I’m sure he shortened the life of it but that’s ok.
With the advice of the great guru @DaleClark he recommended the Exedy clutch cause he recently installed one in Matt’s 8’s and it was butter smooth with no issues.
We don’t need a crazy stage 4 clutch for a stock car.. way over kill doing that.

Also Rockauto had the best price and shipped fast! Had the clutch in 2days.

We dropped the transmission, swapped in the new clutch and reinstalled everything that day.. not terribly hard we just took our time cause Stevie did 95% of the work and learned so much.
Super proud of him and I could see he was proud in him self that he did the job.
He’s another #garageguy

A few pics.

Update on my Silver Girl coming soon.
I’ll say Ethanol is awesome 😎

Those brushless pumps look like they are the same form factor as a Walbro 450 that I have in mine, I'm wondering if I should upgrade? As good/better flow, less power draw? More reliability?

Just catching up

Let's start with nice work!!!! Awesome to see you passing your knowledge to your son. A dad son relationship is super important, especially in the times we live today. I love the idea of making your own fuel mixture. I have also been entertaining the idea doing my own fuel. I was thinking a 30% ethanol as apposed to 10%. I just want to take advantage of the cooling characteristics of ethanol and also faster turbo boost response. Really looking forward to seeing your results. I have always liked the direction of your build. Brap on brother

My pumps are Walbro F90000274.. not brushless.... but I can't lie I was eyeing those brushless pumps ie.... BKS1001 Brushless E5LM
They seem to be a GREAT upgrade/newer tech.
I just didn't want to spend that much on one pump.
Walbro F90000274 is $109
BKS1001 Brushless E5LM is $699
If money is not a problem, then I'd go for the brushless pump option

Thanks Bro! He's a good kid
FYI, I'm not mixing my own fuel, I just go fill up with ethanol and the Haltech ecu w/ethanol sensor reads the percent of ethanol in the fuel.
Then recalculates it for fuel supply (brief description).
So, I can be at E30 or E85 and Haltech ecu recalculates fuel demand. It works very well.

Also... I hope you are going to Deals Gap this year... if not start making plans now for Deals Gap Rotary Rally 2024

Thumbs up All the fuel pressure

Going to try this again... messed something up when I added a pic...lol

Fuel pressure is great now, The FD3S Radium surge tank and upgraded PTFE 8an fuel lines work great.
I have a lift pump and a primary and secondary pump that Haltech turns on at 8psi/3000rpms.
Also upgraded the old stock alternator to a DC Power.. wanted to make sure I had good voltage for the system.

Been running at 22psi and it super fun. The EFR 8374iwg really wakes up at 20+psi... Super Spicy!
I plan to hit the local 1/4 mile track again for some fun runs.

Some pics.....

Thumbs up E85 so close I can touch it !!!

Another exciting thing that happened was my local Racetrac gas station started selling E85 about a month ago.
It was only E15 before which is useless to me…lol
This is awesome news because previously I’d have to drive 50 mins round trip to the closest E85 station from my house.
Now it’s right down the street, like 2mins away… HELL YEAH !!
And so far the content % has been pretty good.
Always around 60% or better.

Can’t beat the price… under $2.50gal for what’s like race fuel

My local Racetrac… so happy to have E85 right down the street

Before fill up

After fill up

Thumbs up Another one back on the road

Helped a local buddy get his FD running again after it was sitting for 7months. He didn’t wanna drive it because it had a fuel leak up above his rear diff coming from the fuel filter area which was a wise choice being fuel would leak down onto the exhaust….

End up being dry rotted fuel hose. We replaced it and fix a couple minor issues and he’s back on the road

Also found a new home for my TC-4s wheels…. He's super happy with the Red & Gunmetal combo!

I think its looks great too!!

finally got a draggy run.. it’s a 60-130mph
This is on E65 at 22psi with boost tapering down to 20psi by redline.
I need a more free flowing exhaust.
It’s a large street port, 8374iwg, rotary works v-mount, 3” exhaust.
No dyno, just street tuned by me. #garageguytuned

The car feels great instantly spools, great street turbo!
But I really don’t think there is much more left in this turbo though.

Damn Steve, that's QUICK! Looks like you had 1 gear change in there by the dip, was it a 3-4 or 4-5 shift? Can't tell because there's no RPMs in the plot

Clearly your next logical mod. Getting the plutonium still might be tricky but after all the mods you've been doing I think you got this

That’s funny!
It’s plenty quick but always someone faster.
What I like most is spool is still great with this 8374iwg.
Of course not twins spool but given the extra power up top it’s awesome!
