Talking The Buy of the Year.

New to the forums but I felt like I had to share my story with everyone else. Some will hate me for this and some will laugh about it but here is how my FD made it into my life .... $2,000 later.

I was driving through an old people neighborhood about 2 weeks ago in my dsm just enjoying my last few hours before I had to clock in at work. No idea why i was driving through this neighborhood on that day but I was, and I'm damn glad I did. As I approaching the last street to exit, I see two cars posted up in the front yard of a mans house. One car was a rust bucket with a tag on it that expired in 1995 and the other was a 1993 Mazda RX-7 that was once red but pollen decided to take over it. I'm a Toyota guy more than anything but when I saw this pollen machine, I flipped. My eclipse was so pissed that even it wanted to crankwalk just to make me not buy another piece of crap ... BUT I had to have it. It turned out that the owner of the car " blew " it up and stuck in his shed ... in 2004. That day was the first time it saw light in almost 8 years. The owner was a 35 year old man who just got married and had a kid on the way ... ( WIN 4 ME ). Him being a FD owner, i knew he would still end up wanting at least 6k for this blown up beast but what he told me next was unbelievable to hear. TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. I flipped out and told him DEAL ! I grab the car and tow it to my house and start prepping myself to pull this motor, paint it, order a whole bunch of stuff for it and have it ready for Import Alliance in Atlanta on April. I spend two nights looking for a motor for this and started looking up more on this what you guys call " a rotary motor ". The day I was gonna take the motor out, I had a guy came over who has an AMAZING FD and wanted him to check it out. When he gets to the house, he tells me to try and turn it over. With 8 year old gas, Horrible oil, and no faith in this thing at all; I turn it it and the thing has compression. He did the spark plug test and both rotors were blowing at a better rhythm than the keyboard part in Tom Sawyer. In a nutshell, The car needed a fuel pump and some spark to run again. $2,400 got me a running FD that does need some paint and some love. The owner of it told me to call him when it ran again so I told him the story and he cried. literally. He wasn't upset cause I got the benefit of the doubt; but that he left what was once his baby put up for 8 years because his mechanic told him the seals were blew. Yes, I know this car is due to blow ANY day but it's amazing how some things work.

I'm 20 years old and have owned and sold a skyline, soarer, is300, and porsche. I bought the cars basically to test drive and flip ... I bought this car with the intentions of flipping it cause I know I can make profit even with me telling everyone that I bought it for dirt cheap but now, I don't want to sell it. This is my new baby and will stay that way until the end. I hope whoever read this enjoyed it and I hope to find help on here with some stuff I need and I hope I can help in anyway I can. Thanks Guys.

Nice story, had a similar story about my FD which I will post up when I will open my build thread
(Previous owner also thought that it was blown, was just a damaged radiator cap, car was also dirt cheap )

I wish you all the best with the car!

Nice find.

Take the time out now to have the engine built properly to save yourself time and money in the long run.

Rx7 community is very small- if you decided to keep your FD for a while u will know nearly everyone with an FD in your state lololol.

in alabama you get an FD when you purchase 2 beers and a hot dog.

almost had a 2004 RX8 for $2k but the owner decided to be abducted by aliens before actually selling the car.

Nice now I will double your purchase price I will buy it .....just kidding

congrats on the find this only means two things bringt back to life or modify the hell out of it. To many Fds are falling in wrong hands nowadays that it sadens me how long it will take until theres any good ones left.

If you havent done so meet up with local rotorheads get to know the car more. These cars are perfect out of the box.

Again congrats and I am jealous .

well the latest update on the car is: turbo's are blown on it from hell and back. ordering some used ones tonight from a guy on the forums and throwing those on this week and get this girl ready for ia in less then a month. it goes in the paint booth this coming up weekend and getting a respray and taking the wing off. coilovers, seats, and etc are on the list for the next two weeks and of course the last thing i wanna do that i think will look sick as hell on fresh red is 5% window tint all around and 35% tint full windshield.

i think she'll ride just fine to atlanta and back cause this girl has been wanting to get out for 6 years now.

I will never understand tinting a windshield. Just asking to run someone over at night or something.
