lol lost motivation is an understatement. i have absolutely none. i can get this fixed in a weekend but i just dont care to. I picked up a trans for 20 bucks that has a 5th gear grind supposively. so i just need to open it up and double check the 5th gear syncro is ok. if its bad i gotta order one from ray and throw it in. ive done it before and was my first "big" job and managed it. so now it should be cake.

but even with all that done, and installed, its still not tuned.......... and drives like POOP. and whats the point of tuning it in the cold weather? if its not going to be running until its warm out...... ill save the $500+ for later....

Ps im on this tool binge and have been going crazy picking up tools left and right to build my "future workshop" i have a bunch i still wanna do, hopefully by xmas ill have a few of them done........

hopefully i can get my metal lathe this week =)

It is virtually impossible to do FD door panels, especially in one piece and do it right. You should save yourself some time and give up now.

This is not me "hating." Just trying to help you out.

There are too many contours in the panels. The problem is, you are trying to force the vinyl to follow several contours at the same time and that produces wrinkles. You can see from your first attempt that there are several wrinkles, you will not be able to make them go away.

I work in an auto upholstery shop and made several attempts at doing FD door panels. I had to use mutliple panels and put in a couple seems in order to get them to fit. Once i finally got them to fit, the glue wouldnt hold on the door panel in the summer sun. I had to cover the entire door panel in fiberglass resin in order for it to have something to stick to. Because the resin is slightly uneven, i had to back the vinyl with 1/8" foam to make it look good. That added thinckness to the panel and made them fit tightly when the door was closed and they ended up being very heavy.

It is a rediculous process and very frustrating. It is more than most DIY guys can handle. If you want to give it a shot, then by all means. But please post pics when your done, so i can tell u "I told you so." lol

And they arnt vinyl wrapped from the factory. They use an injection mold or something. IDK the process exactly, but its much different than how you are attempting to do it.

Ps, i like the work you did on the engine bay. I plan on Filling/smoothing/shaving my entire bay this winter.

I'm beginning to wonder why your even on this forum???? All you do is post negative useless comments.... Its very Rare that I even see you contribute anything to this forum....... Hell...... when's the last time you've even seen your FD??? (not counting when scrub sends you pictures of it)

Maybe you should take a trip back from Vegas.. and take your FD out for a spin... maybe that will help lift your spirits.

Sorry for the thread crap ben... but this is just crazy and pretty damn ridiculous

Lol, thanks for clarifying that up. i feel like i could massage the center portion in better because the next time around because of the area of the trim panel gets cut. Therefore relieving some stress in material ie, bubbles/wrinkles.

Im definitely getting a ton of wrinkles on the edge and im beginning to think thats impossible without making a seam. i need a material that will shrink. have you tried a different material or just vinyl?

ps shaving the engine bay is a PITA............. good luck an post pics when you do

Oh Charlie, How old are you man? When will you ever grow up. Keep posting your useless comments and opinions that are worthless to this community.

Bitching and moaning about peoples sigs? Wow, that really says Charlie all over it.
How about you save this forums' "space" and stop posting all your useless comments.

+1 with what Dennis said. From the 3-4 years I've been on this forum im yet to see you post anything of value, informative, or use.

Here is a pic of how i did mine just for reference. There isnt such thing as a vinyl that will shrink, unless its really cheap lol. Genuine leather will shrink after years in the sun, but its also very thick. Unfortunately, Fd door panels are a lost cause. I ended up just buying a set of black door panels lol.

How many hours did you have in your engine bay? I plan on spending like 100 hours lol. Its a crazy process, but should keep me busy all winter.

Vinyl door panels are a bitch. It was a tight fit squeezing the pieces in and in the end, the stichtching on the bottom of my door scratched the paint off. I wish I was told about this before I had the door panels put on. Definitely not cool.

Omg the stitching looks insanely over complex hahha.

hours? not nearly as much as i should have. i get fed up with sanding very easily. if theres 2 things i hate in life, its sanding and painting. the 2 most critical things to make ANYTHING look good hahah. i probably put like 20 hours into it...
