I haven't updated this build thread in a while.

I decided to act upon a rare find. I purchased a 10th Anniversary Edition 88 T2. It is missing the motor but other than that it is in very decent shape. Fun project!

Update on the FD 07/13/16

I took my FD in for tuning and it did not go as planned. It looks like my secondary turbo is a goner.

The plan is to search for some low mileage twins to swap out and take for re-tuning.

Update: 07/17/2016

I ordered a set of low mileage turbos on Saturday, 07/16/2016 so I decided to remove the turbos this weekend. I was luck enough to have a covered space to work under since it was very hot weekend. As always the components before getting to the actually turbos was a piece of cake to remove but the turbos.... that was a different story.

I sprayed the bolt with WD40, which helped, however, I ended up with 3 issues that I need to fix before putting the new turbos in. I need to remove two broken studs and re-tap the one smaller stud treading located on the bottom of the manifold.

The saddest part of all of this was the 1K mile 99 spec turbos. They were very clean when I removed them. The primary is in excellent condition. ZERO cracks on the housing. What a shame...

So I purchased a low mileage twin turbo set. 17k miles on them and from the appearance they look new. Very happy with the purchase so far.

I needed to port the waste gate since I am running a downpipe and midpipe so I got that done.

This worked on my downpipe studs with only PB blaster

You may want to try to heat as well

Not sure how it will do with that busted stud, but it looks like you have enough for it to grab. There are other brands of the design BTW

I picked up one of these a few days ago. Universal 3 8" Drive Dr Broken Thread Stud Extractor Tool Socket Remover Removal | eBay

I have not had a chance to try it on my car yet (its at my brother in laws house since I don't have space to work at my apartment complex) but I tried it on some old turbos I had laying around that had a few studs in them. Took them right out!!

I am hoping it will do the same on the manifold. I will give a update on Monday.

I received my Stud Extractor in the mail last week so I decided to tackle the stubborn studs on the manifold. I huffed and I puffed and I broke the stud in half...half of it was int he extractor and the other half in the good old manifold!

I decided to ditch the manifold and bought another manifold from a forum member. The only issue with the new manifold was that it had one broken stud on the bottom of the manifold. The member I bought it from tried to take it out before mailing it but had no luck. I decided to take it over to SilverTRD's shop (his garage) and he worked his magic.

Next Day: August 14, 2015

I installed the new manifold, the turbos, the downpipe, the midpipe, heat shields, and basically everything that needed to be done from underneath the car. I think I have about 2 or 3 hours of work left to do (I work like a snail when it comes to my RX7).

I also accidentally put my elbow on the passenger side light cover while leaning to tighten something and let's just say I will be needing some JB weld for the bracket on the bottom of the light cover.

What happened to the turbos in your tuning session? Looked like you had all kinds of debris sucked into the intake somehow?

It's a mystery. Somehow the turbine wheel got damaged and started to scrape the black plastic around the turbine housing (the black plastic is only on the 99 spec turbos). All the debris you see in the intake pipes is the black plastic shavings.

I figured instead of trying to figure out what happened to the turbo I might as well move on and get it replaced.

Quick Update.

I ended up buying a new PC680 odyssey battery since my last one was not holding a charge any longer.

I got the car started up and from the initial inspection there was not fluids leaking, not exhaust leaks and not vacuum leaks.

Took the car for a spin and the temps on the gauges looked good so I drove it home 35 miles with no issues.

I will hopefully have this back to the tuner soon for round 2 of tuning. Fingers crossed!!

Tuning Session #2 went well. I dropped off my car at Neptune Speed and Yoshi worked his magic to get my car tuned before Sevenstock. The estimated WHP is about 320 to 350whp.

Here is a pic of my car at Sevenstock.

Part 2 of my update

I FINALLY found Montego Blue Mud Guards!!!

However, one of them has lots of scratches on it. It doesn't seem like it is deep. Any suggestions on what I can do to eliminate the scratches (or most of them)?

You can try and polish them out, but I think your best bet would be to repaint.

You need a deep cutting pad and appropriate compound and a lot of those will come out.
