In the American market there's the general assumption (don't ask me why) that the automotive year starts in July and ends the next June.
Example:
07/92 - 06/93 build date FD is a 93 in the US
07/93 - 06/94 build date FD is a 94 in the US
07/94 - 06/95 build date FD is a 95 in the US

So this car is, according to the US, a 96 car. I'd be curious to know what your insurance card says the year of the car is???

Banzai.com - FD Build Date VIN Breakdown

According to Banzai's site your car (400,387) would be #387 made in 1995 by the production number. They went to 500,000 that year.

took my dad down to a cars and coffee meet. Probably the last time the **** will be on the road this year. I saw my first ever FD on the road today! And what do you know, he was going to the meet also haha.

That Delorean is funny because there is one that occasionally shows up to our Pittsburgh Cars and Coffee, who also has a hoverboard he puts in the passenger seat just like that one.

For sure man. There is a pic of the subie next to my FD the day it got delivered in my profile pics. This is my third rotary, but a couple years ago I got bit by the boxer-bug, and it really has been an awesome DD. It's an '01 RS (last year for the 2 door), but it has a few STi parts on it, but decided to keep it at DD status, and use the money for the full STi swap for the FD. I still really like it though, even after about 5 years and even though it's got some rust cancer (even with the rust and the miles I still get someone offering to buy it about once a month lol). I don't think you can beat it as a DD compliment to the FD. Its reliable, looks awesome, and has enough spunk to keep any drive enjoyable.

Keep up the good work man. Like I said, I have virtually the same philosophy, so you are def motivation for me

I checked out your subie, now I'm jealous! Ill be shopping for a dd Subaru soon. I do believe the Subaru gods are pissed off at me. I sold my forester last week because I just got a new job and didn't need all the space any more, well on Monday I hopped in the rx7 to go to work because the guy I work with was going to bring his STi, and we were going to have a little fun after work. The rx7 never made it...I overheated, car died, I started it up after it cooled down, motor was shaking like taylor swift and the car was swallowed by a large white cloud. As bad as that seems, it only gets worse from here. I had to call three different tow companies and they wouldn't pick me up because the car is too low. Finally got ahold of my uncle who has a flat bed trailer, I get the car home and jump in the truck so I can get to work, I **** you not, I made it 15 miles further than where the rx7 died and the motor in the truck blows due to faulty oil pump/gauge. That's right, 2 motors in less than 3 hours...pretty neat Monday. Now Im down to a motorcycle and its not warm here haha....wish I had a forester right about now!

I found some slight rust under the battery tray


this is how it sits right now. I'm pretty much taking everything apart so I can do a deep clean on all the areas I can while I have the chance.


so far my plan is to buy a jdm long block w/trans so I can stay on the road while my engine gets built how I want it once and for all. I'd like to get Howard Coleman to do the build with one of his port jobs if possible. I still need to talk to him about it, but I prefer not to until I have cash in hand.

That "Slight Rust" under the battery tray is not even close to a big deal. Its surface rust from the tray rubbing, you can scuff/sand it off and paint over it with no issues.

As for the harbor freight lift....I used a coupon and got mine for $100. Works awesome! Best $100 investment I made as I'm sure you feel that way too!

I'm interested to see the damage when you disassemble the motor.

had to call it quits for the night. I hope to have it cracked open by this weekend. I'm excited to see whats inside.. It felt pretty smooth when I cranked over the main pulley with my breaker bar. I got little poofs of air as I spun it around, that seems like a good sign.

There's a pic of my Harbor Freight 2-ton crane hauling out the 12a to be replaced with the 13bt. Worked great for me - should for you too! It'll be getting more use this winter when I pull the 12a out of my current car.
