95 Rebuild
Bought my 7 a couple years ago, really meant to attack it head on sooner than I did, but the opportunity didn't really present itself. I bought it at 55k miles.
I tossed around the idea of selling it, but I didn't see a price I was comfortable letting it go for. So I decided this winter to have SMG Racing rebuild it to something more along the lines of what I was looking for.
It had about 77k miles on it, the guy who owned it before the private dealer who sold it to me didn't drive the car much, but he also didn't appear interested in any modifications. He threw on 18 inch wheels in the front and 20 in wheels in the back. He was running a straight midpipe and had a ebay muffler on the end. Other than that the car was bone stock.
I was really backwards about how I approached the car so I'm not sure how hard I can be on the guy. I initially put in a remote starter, turbo timer, and a head unit with gps navigation. Later I put on a 99 spec wing and a 99 spec front bumper with 99 spec style headlamps. I also have the clutch replaced, so there is a Bonez Carbon Kevlar clutch.
Later on I started having some issues with the car. I was getting a lot of backfire, and I thought maybe it was an ignition problem, so I replaced the spark plugs. The problems persisted. And got worse. I started getting some occasionally rough idles, and white smoke from the exhaust after cold starts.
I ran into cooling issues that began with a plastic AST splitting on me. I put together a makeshift fix, but it didn't take and I eventually lost the radiator. I replaced the radiator and took the car to AutoX, where the new radiator began to leak. I replaced the radiator one more time, and haven't had an issue with it since.
That brings me to my rebuild. I'm not just looking for power, but a degree of reliability, and the drivability for everyday driving (though I don't really drive all that often). I'll certainly take power where I can find it. I think ultimately I'll run between 12 and 14 psi. I'm hoping to be back on the road by the end of the month.
