94 CW PEP - NA 26b

Thought I would create a thread for the wife’s 74k miles 94 CW PEP.

This is a Texas car originally, driven to MD ~ 7 years ago, might have 10k maryland miles if that... 5 of the last 7 years it was sitting in dry storage slowly getting painted.

I bought it from a forum member who back together (bumpers, headlights, seals, taillights), put in new plugs, drained the gas and did a semi heavy pre-mix to help with comp and first start in a while & a new battery.

The car has decent compression and starts up great, haven’t had a chance to drive it yet as the brakes needs to be bleed. It’s stock except for the aftermarket downpipe.

Plans include:
  • Paint engine bay
  • Swapping out the engine and trans from another FD I have
  • IRP single wastegate turbo kit
  • Custom V mount
  • Dual oil coolers
  • Ohlins
  • RPF1s
  • 99 front
  • Feed front fenders and sides
  • Remove current stereo system and install something more simple
  • Custom seats
  • And maybe custom steering wheel

Goal is to have all this done by end of January.

Few pics that I have.

Interior cleaned up nicely, all the gauges lights up nicely and the door has a nice solid crisp feel when closing it.

Thanks guys.

Drove it up the street today and thinking I may keep the current engine in it for now. Replaced the brake master, removed the amp and cleaned up the engine bay some tonight.

It’s amazing what a little elbow grease will do.

It’s throwing an EGR and split air by pass code. I’m thinking about sending it to Rotary Resurrection and getting Kevin to redo the emission, sequential solenoids and adding silicon vacuum hose and viton check valve. I’m thinking I will test and reuse the emission solenoids and get new oem sequential solenoids. Going sleep on it and go from there.

So, I would say, don’t crash this one, it’s a nice Rx7 because of its paint code but that also applies to me lol. Twinssssies. I know I’m popular and everyone wants to follow suit but how funny the circumstances are?

Replaced and installed the items below. They didn’t really need replacing but I wanted to replace.

Brakes
  • Master cylinder
  • Speed bleeders
  • Pads
  • Stoptech lines
  • Stoptech fluids

Cooling
  • Koyo N Flow
  • Aluminum AST
  • OEM coolant
  • New AST hose
  • Radiator hose and clamps

Random
  • Belts
  • Windshield wiper tank
  • Coolant overflow tank
  • Battery cover
  • New positive terminal connection
  • Throttle Body O-Ring

Buttoned up the car and tried to take it to emission testing. On the way there, I noticed the car didn’t really have any power above 60 mph and didn’t have any power above 3k rpms. The car felt like it wasn’t getting enough fuel and had a really bad hesitation. After waiting in line for 30 minutes. It was my turn to get into the bay and the car died and starter didn’t turn over. I roll started it and made my way back home. Turn out the neutral safety switch wasn’t engaging which prevented me from starting the car. Not sure why the car died however.

Plan on replacing fuel pump with Supra one in the next day or two.

Also waiting on Shine to get back to me on my order.

Have a few other things to think about.

The car is at Rotary Resurrection and Landers has been doing a great job keeping me up to date with his findings. I sent it there for him to redo the sequential stuff build decided to do a full rebuild.

Below are some of the items worth mentioning.
- All the smaller coolant hoses for the turbos and throttle body stuff are swollen, the one for the top of the turbos was ready to explode at any moment. I’m replacing all the rubber hoses in the engine bay.
- The elbow hose to the CCV is split and will be replaced
- Turbos - no noticeable cracks or oil in the compressor housings, and shaft play is normal but I will be replacing with some other lower mileage ones as one of the down pipe stud is broken off on the turbo.
- OMP and lines. Bought new OMP injectors and will rebuild with new clear high temp tubing and clamps.
- Primary injector insulators to the block were both pinched due to a rough install by whoever had the LIM off to change the gaskets a long time ago.
- As you can see there is heavy main bearing wear
- The irons, shaft, and rotors all look to be in normal condition without issues. As you can see there is a black patch which shows a degraded section of the seal about ready to leak.

Got the OMP nozzles from Ray Crowe, he's the man. Great prices, knows the fd inside and out. I usually get OEM lines from Ray also but Landers mentioned he could make new lines for $10 each so I went down that path.

I got most of these parts from Ray.

There is no telling how much I have spent with Ray, Tomsn16, Atkins and Banzai Racing.

^ will do. I will probably wait until March / April to paint the front bumper and install the lip.

Engine is in

Banzai Racing 2.0kw Starter. I also got their 50 amp starter relay. The oil-less sub frame and trans with aftermarket down pipe and new OEM charge harness is looking fresh. I will probably get the down pipe coated later.

This is my 4th FD and this is the only one that has this shield. Never knew it existed

Looking great Johnny! That's an expensive pile of parts for the car!

Funny that you've never had that pan under the transmission. I have seen a few cars that were missing it or it was damaged.

If you get the downpipe ceramic coated I would have an extra O2 bung welded on for a Wideband first before sending it to get coated. Much easier to do it now than when the coating is on there. Local muffler shop has done ones for me before for like $20 out the door, I usually put them at the end of the downpipe just before the flange to keep them cooler so they last longer.

^ thanks and thanks for the tip.

Engine is in,fuel filter relocated and TPS adjusted.

Drove it home last night and engine is super smooth, start easily and idles great.

The best part of all this is that it PASSED emissions! Which is super exciting for us.

Now that we have put some miles on it, I know where the attention need to be turned to next and that is the suspension. Lots of clunking from bad bushings and pillow *****. Will address this around April.

1st tank of gas got 19 mpg which sadly I'm thrilled about. My DD which is a 01 4runner gets like 16 MPG. I feel like I should have at least 1 fuel efficient vehicle.

It was probably 30 degrees this morning so windows were frosted over. Driver door handle didn't want to cooperate but luckily I was able to get in from the passenger side. Will remove the low mileage door handle from MB later today. The wife drove it to work to put in some more break in miles. We probably have another 600 to go.

I'm really enjoying driving a stock car and will probably eventually convert my single turbo FD back to stock. We will see.
