I rebuilt the S4 OMP so it's a good unit, the premix oil will be on an Independent system. Meaning fresh oil, I will post more pics & details once I am done with it.
You can find this system on a lot of ATV's, if your looking to learn more on it.

I got the FD adapter & using my FD front cover w/S4 OMP. Yes, it would have easier to just use the FD OMP. But didn't feel safe depending on a 16+ years old electrical part, where the S4 is mechanical & simple to rebuild.
Black mamba performance ABS delete kit was installed today, pics below I have to say I am really happy with the added hard line. Cleans up the install a lot thanks again Luis for this kit!

I've datalogged output from stock FD ecu, and find that it regulates metering pump position based on MAP and rpm. Here is stock OMP table:

From 1989 Mazda switched to an electronic metering oil pump, which is not as easily rebuildable and generally fails electrically before it leaks & cause the car to go into "limp mode".
I'm not on here telling people to go down my road, I don't feel safe running a 16+ years old part.
This is my reason for this mod and to say it's not a good idea, without seeing the outcome is jumping the gun!

personally, I like the mechanical OMP idea as well as giving the OMP it's own tank with fresh oil to inject.
I understand you want to reduce a failure point in an already flawed system, however, since experimentation and R&D hasn't really been documented on an FD with a mechanical OMP, and since you've stated that the electronic OMP measures the oil it injects based on RPM and MAP, how will your mechanical one be able to measure and compensate? Or, how will you adjust how much oil it injects under given load, RPM and MAP?

My OMP will be control just like the S4 2gen by linage. This is not NEW what I am doing, the issue is most sit on their hands waiting for the answers. If they can't Google it or read it on a forum, well **** how would it ever work. People this is very basic mechanics stop over thinking it, just supply fresh oil via; tank & lines and with the help of vacuum & call it a day.

Chris,
I'm actually doing the exact same thing/ But with a Cosmo RE on my FC (S4 front cover and OMP as well). The Cosmo utilizes an FD throttle body. Mind sharing ideas of the custom linkage needed to adapt this to work with our TB?
Looking good btw
Thanks

Thank you for the compliment. So far the best linkage rod is off the GSL-SE.
Spalato,
I removed my ABS pump & in it's place is my 1/2 gallon S/S tank

Did you tuck your FPR to keep it away from heat? Kills me to see them mounted so close to the turbo sometimes.
This is the first I've heard of mechanical omp on the fd... My main pulley cut a wire to my old one and mazdatrix told me that there was no fixing it. Kinda ghetto how they are throw-aways.
