The diff is out. I dont even know how i managed to change that fuel filter last time.

A little challenging getting the shafts out but mission complete.

Took the diff out and look how worn these bushings are. I knew the rear felt a bit sloppy.

That fuel filter cannot stay in the OEM location.

Fuel filter removed. Spilled fuel all over the palce. Removed the fuel cap and and pitched the line. I lost about a quater of a gallon of 93 octane. I cant loose too much of that expensive, over priced stuff.

I got carried away. The plan was to only remove the diff to replace the bushings.

Since i was already there and have the bushings to replace the old worn OEM stuff, I removed the rear suspension.


All the suspension is out and i will start the removing of the old bushings, clean all parts and install my fresh super pro polly bushings.

Thanks Estavan. I took the time today to do some house keeping. I cleand the diff using a paint brush,wd40,fuel and carb cleaner. I learned this practice while wrenching on my sons race kart. When you represent a team you never want your kart to look runned down and dirty. I think it is good to keep are cars clean.

Here is the review on the JP3 fuel filter relocation kit. The JP3 comes complete with everything you need to relocate the fuel filter. It is a plug and play kit. The location of the fuel filter is perfect and very easy to get to. The only complaint I have is that the inside of the diameter of the fuel lines are a bit big. So when you attach the lines to the hard fuel lines it does not fit as tight as the oem. The lines dont leak but for a price of mind I also secured the lines with zip ties.

 

 

I need the help of the community on this one. If I am understanding correctly you can not rebuild the rear toe ends on a Fd. Mazda has discontinued this item. I have seen some aftermarket toe ends but have not come to a conclusion on what's best. Please feed me some info please.

 

So I have gone and done a lot of research about rear toe link ends for the Fd. I did not see anything really concrete as to what is best for my build. I did learn alot about rear toe ends and toe steer. This helped a little I I am in between Pettit Racing and Spl tatinium toe rear toe ends. Here are some pics of before and after I cleaned the parts.

Thanks Estevan. The parts look as though they just came out the assembly line in Japan. I am super happy on the results. Not driving my car is driving me crazy though. I will soon have some videos of the progress on my youtube channel.

Thanks Narfle. Yes it is a lot of work but bought the super pro kit two years. I put off doing all this work because I knew how involved it would be. I also enjoy driving the car so much that I did not want to put it down for this job. One day I saw the box of OEM ball joints and bushings and said it is now. Jacked the car up and went to work. The original plan was just to do the diff bushings but then I got carried away. I could not see me putting in the bushings without cleaning the suspension parts. I thank Zanella Racing for allowing me to use there part cleaner machine. More things to come and a video coming soon of the progress.

 

Not much to really say about toe links. All they do is hold the position of the wheel in the geometry. Replace with whatever is easily adjustable to maintain toe, is as long lasting as you need, doesn't brake and is within your budget.

 

Yeah, people commonly swap out the toe links and trailing arms for aftermarket instead of replacing the bushing on the stock ones. I never hear people complaining about it, either way, once they refurb or replace. Stock stuff works til it doesn't, is a good rule of thumb.

 

I finally made a decision on what toe link to go with and I went with the Pettit Racing Toe link. My decision was not easy but I know Pettit Racing is all about tracking the Fd so I figured they might have put some R&D into there toe links. I also had some work done at Pettit Racing and Cam really knows his stuff. I cant wait for it to come in the mail so I can put my car back together and enjoy it.

For sure!!!! I miss driving the Fd and it has only been a few weeks. These arrived at my door so I am getting closer.

It was raining most of the day so i got crazy and cleaned these parts. The black looking one is the way they all looked. I cleaned that one as well and the results were great. I also cleaned all the botls and nuts that belonged on the rear suspension.
I had to order the super pro rear shock mount in polly because it was not included in the super pro kit. More suspension stuff on the way for my build.

 

Looks awesome. You may get a little "clunkiness" from the toe links, but I love mine. All my bushings were replaced not long ago. You will be impressed!!!

 

Do you have the Pettit Racing toe links? I hope I dont get clunking. I am excited on how the car will feel. I am trying to improve the performance of the car without ruining the street ability. It is a delicate balance and I do a lot of research before I add or remove parts from the car. The Mazda engineers did a great job when they designed the Fd.

I have the ones from J-Auto. I think they are probably all about the same. It isn't anything major, but I hear it from time to time. You will love them I am sure.

 

I had installed the Pettit toe links back in 2007ish. They did wear out after some time and caused clunkiness, I would highly recommend adding some dust covers on the rod ends before you install them.
This is a good thread from back in the day with good information on this issue. I ended up upgrading just the rod ends and adding seals.
