that's really interesting, my friend has had no problems running his and he only uses one box.

I still really want to send the irons and housings to brian for the porting, but since I'm sticking with the e85 idea since its so cheap and abundant here, I've decided to forgo the HBP for now. I graduate in a year so maybe I'll buy and build a second motor then.

got a good phone call yesterday, my tach is finished, now I just need to go pick it up and wait for the weather to warm up so I can put the interior back together. Probably about time order an lc1 wideband so I can do all the interior stuff as soon as it starts warming up.

got the tach back, I need to dig through the FSM and see if there's a way to test it to make sure it's fixed before I put it back in.

here's the replacement

here's the culprit

screwed back into the plastic surround

I ran into a problem, I was planning on this only taking a week or two tops to get fixed, it ended up being almost 3 months. So of course I forgot about the little marks that I made in plastic. I logically deduced that the tach will stop at 9k, so I guessed and got close, then I found my marks and got it alligned properly.

I was planning on doing a little more in depth write up, so I took pictures of the five black plastic tabs that have to be undone on the bottom,

the three on the top

and the two screws on the front

all of them have to be removed/unclipped to get the tach out. As you can see my cluster is now back together and HOPEFULLY (crosses fingers) working correctly. I encourage you to order the capacitor prior to starting this as its really hard to find. 17A, 1microfarrad, 50V is what it is labelled as. I was hoping it would show up in the pictures, but alas, no such luck.

to remove the tach once you have the face of the cluster off, all you have to do is remove the three screws that are in a triangular pattern on the back of the cluster. You can see it pretty easily in the third to last picture where they go, as well as in the first and fourth pictures.

steering rack completely de-powered. If anybody needs to buy new outer tie-rod ends, for the love of god do not buy them from you local mazda dealership. I made that mistake and they're 85 bucks each after taxes. I found the exact same ones from the local parts store with a lifetime warranty for 11 bucks and some change.

wideband showed up, new (SBG) interior door handle was shipped thursday, and my taillights are getting modded by Tom to his 97+ led ring style, hope to get those back soon. Probably ordering the injectors this afternoon (monday) or tomorrow (tuesday)

I'd love to see those taillights, they're one of the many things on my list waiting to empty my pockets.

If you're going no power steering, I'd try to get the atomic rex billet rack - everything else is not even close from everything I've heard/read

I'm spending enough money as it is, the atomic rex rack is something that I may purchase in the future, but for right now my goal is to get the car running and driving.

Mr. Epic, I'm gonna try and make it down to KCIR at least once this summer, I'll let you know when and you can maybe swing by and check them out. I don't know how far you are from Lincoln, but I'll post up some of the bigger events in the local area section as I find out about them. I got lucky and was following the thread about the taillights closely and only just managed to get in on the first list.

I'm using the Injector Dynamics ID1000 (1000cc) injectors as the primaries and their ID2000 (2200cc) injectors as the secondaries. I'm planning on running e85 so that should compensate a bit for the known problems the PFC has with operating large primary injectors at idle.
not sure what you mean about the downpipe design Gordon. Since I'm going single it's gonna be just a single downpipe. If you were talking about my idea of having a sort of wastegate cutout I decided to scratch that idea. Talking with a few people we decided that when it was open it would create what would amount to a sizeable exhaust leak due to the exhaust gases from both the manifold/wastegate and the downpipe exiting through the cutout.

new door handle came in, now I can replace that broken shitty piece of plastic!
ordered a wing to replace mine that broke off, I don't have to get it painted since its already black, but I might anyways just to make it look better, I'll probably take it to milford and have them paint my front bumper at the same time.
I also ordered new IRP poly motor mounts. I'm contemplating ordering a diff brace to help my diff stand up to repeated hard launches in both auto-x and drag racing.
Erik will be bringing my CCW classics when he comes up for the autox the same weekend as Americruise or whatever it is this year.

old wideband is out, a local guy is gonna buy it, new wideband is almost in, I have to enlarge the hole in my a-pillar to feed the clip through and then wire it all in. Might be able to get the entire dash back together tomorrow.

Also a friend from Omaha is coming down tomorrow and we're gonna spec everything out so I can order my rebuild parts, and then Monday its off to the machine shop!

A BIG thanks to fitz for coming down today and showing this noob what to do. I now know that I don't have to buy new housings/irons/rotors, and just need soft seals, apex seals, corner soft seals/plugs and all of the springs. Shouldn't be too bad, I hope. Looks like I'll be able to get away with under 700 dollars in parts counting the RA super seals and new rotor bearings.

Oh, and I will be doing a sake bomb SBG style once the door handle and taillights are in.

Turns out I needed to order new oil control rings as well. I decided to go with the Rotary Aviation rebuild kit, ended up costing exactly 700 with the RA super seals, but we'll see if he actually included 4 sets of oil control rings or just 2 sets for a total of 4 oil control rings.
Got my tails back from Tom (Theory) and they look great, can't wait to get those put in.
Hoping to get my stuff back from the machine shop by Friday so I can build the motor this weekend, but he didn't sound too optimistic about being able to get to it. I did drop off the exhaust manifold studs for the housings along with new bearings and two of my good rotors to have those pressed in.
Got the rx8 style 5 speed shift **** from rotary performance, looks and feels great. Its a nice little touch-up piece I've wanted for a while.
Got the replacement r1 spoiler in as well as the mounting hardware from Ray Crowe, that will be put on at the same time as the tails.
I was in Houston last weekend for TX2K11 otherwise some actual WORK would've happened on the car. Right now its about 30 and snowing (again) outside and the garage isn't exactly the warmest place. Hopefully some work will get done next weekend.

If you wanna see the pictures from the trip here's the album. I took over 2100 pictures and I'm still going through them. I upload them as I edit.

we're going to properly bevel the exhuast ports and make sure that nick in the iron is smooth before throwing everything back together. We had hopped that the porting would completely remove the nick, but that didn't happen obviously. Otherwise everything is in spec and the rebuild parts are in my garage.

edit: I took these pictures to show the differences between the stock ports and the pineapple ports, the rusty center and front irons will obviously not be used.

it would appear I haven't updated this in a while. The motor is assembled, had a few issues that we got sorted out. Was torquing down the front cover bolts and did this
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...r+bolt+snapped
still waiting on the turbo manifold and other bits and pieces. Was hoping the car would be running by next Tuesday (my birthday) but I don't think that's gonna happen now. But it'll be close.

After jacking me around since November I finally get my parts back from Casey and they look great. I went to test fit them tonight and **** doesn't fit right. Not sure I want to buy an exhaust flange or just take it to the local high performance shop and see if they can make it all fit. Oh, and the wastegate dump is routed THROUGH the manifold runners. I didn't pay 800 dollars to get jacked around for 8 months (Nov-July) and then not have my parts fit!

finally got the manifold back from being repaired, I don't want to get into it. I have lost motivation for working on the car which pisses me off. I might do some work this weekend, I dunno. I might sell it when its up and running again.

I checked the manifold, it fits, but he didn't extend the wastegate runner so the dump tube wouldn't be routed through the mani runners. Took it to a local shop and they're gonna do it for me. They also got the BOV mounted to the flange on the elbow since my c-clip pliers are pieces of crap and bend.
