35R IR Performance Powerplanted FD

The journey begins with a blown motor after one day of installation due to a small ceramic bead chipping an apex seal. The small bead dislodged itself from the upper intake after ceramic coating. The motor was promptly pulled and shipped to IR Performance for tear down and inspection. I received a phone call from Goodfellafd3s (Rich) explaining the old motor was poorly built. He sent me pictures and said it was hard to believe that the block lasted for 20,000 hard miles. Pictures show how terrible the port work was. We took a chance and purchased a low mileage block which turned out to be in new condition and port work immediately insued.

Aquamist 2D Water/Meth Injection was added to the plan to run higher boost safely on 93 octane. The original goal was set at 450 rwhp at 20 PSI. Upon further calculations, 600ccs of 30/70 meth/water was optimal.

After proper break in, the car was taken to Kilo Racing in Orlando, Fl for tuning.

Impressively the car put down 398whp at 13-14 PSI and 455whp at 17-18PSI. The IR Performance stage 3+ ported motor wanted more and should easily make 500 at 21-22 PSI with the addition of ID2000's. The new engine netted 35 more horsepower than the previous at the same boost level. Videos and more pictures coming soon!

The 2d kit was designed to spray progressively with injector duty cycle but the pump was not spraying enough to make an achieved gain. It was rewired to blast wide open using the boost soleniod. We played with the amount (2 jet sizes) and mixture until the best results were netted. No break up or hestitaion on a stock ignition with a twin power. Obviously the numbers show. I achieved my HP goals without delving into the limits beyond pump gas. I do have some video of the tuning session and water injection testing which will be uploaded. I thought the dyno was reading a bit high, but after driving the car on the street it seems as though it was right on. I had to increase the base fuel pressure to keep the IDC within range for the high boost pulls. 550 primary and 1600 secondaries are currently being used. The car feels almost as good on low boost(398) as it did on high boost(423) before the rebuild. With the 600cc of 30/70 meth/ water the intake temps drop 10 degrees C. During a full WOT pull. The upper intake is cool to the touch after doing some hard pulls. I am not too thrilled with my new FMIC core as water temps. are up a few degrees C on average. My old core had a slight leak. I am going to get it rewelded and use it again. It will allow more flow to the radiator. The piping will be reused. Might even go v-mount in the near future.

I cannot thank IR performance enough for the prompt service and endless customer support! I have patroned many rotary shops previously and they are by far the most honest and helpful. They take pride and passion in what they do and the results show!

Glad to see you post up the numbers Garrett. Very impressive end to your several years of work and persistence. Nice job. I see no breakdowns for you this year on the way to DGRR! Make sure to double check the ignition switch though

HAha! Yea. It seems to be something totally out of left field that gives problems. Not the obvious.

Its amazingly smooth for a large street-port. Set the idle @ 950 to 1000 and its just fine. I will get a video up for you in a bit.. G

The car flies on low boost Garrett, I can only imagine what 18 psi feels like. I'm very glad that all this worked out for ya...... you deserve to enjoy the car after all the hard work
