ON 16 Year olds 1992 Future Domination Build

Hey everyone so i ll answer the first few questions that come to your mind.. Yes i am 16...no this isn't my first car... yes it is my first RX7... No im not some dumb kid whos going to rice out a beautiful car. So yeah my project is a 1992 RX7 FD3S Right hand drive and i believe it is a touring im not sure the model so if anyone can tell me it has leather Bose Acoustic Wave sound system, power everything but seats, a steel sunroof, a single oil cooler and a spoiler. Oh yeah please dont flame i am going to make lots of mistakes as i am doing much of the work myself (not the motor rebuild or tuning). Pictures will be slow to come up as i don't have a very good internet connection. She does need work but i will replace many things that will need to be fixed with better parts. So heres a list of needs:
- Motor rebuild (blue smokes sometihng to do with oil rings or seal) Don't worrry as long as shes in my care there will be a rotary in there!
- Body work the hatch, the sideskirts and around the windshield are just butchered with bondo and flat black paint
- New windshield and seal (how much you guys think that should be?)
- Seats (both are pretty beat up replacing with racing buckets)
- Brakes (swapping out stock rusted rotors for Drilled/ Slotted and EBC pads)

There were some extras that came with the car when i bought it though
- Racing beat catback nad mid pipe (will come up for sale)
- 4 boxes and a hatch full of parts ( extra stock twins, coils plugs, alternator air pump etc)
- R1 lip
- New rims Mazdaspeed knockoffs i was told with yokohama tires 255s in the rear 225s up front

So my plans i will update as I go i think i got it planned out well but im sure with more research i will be tweaking some things. My goal is a street terror running on 91 octane with a single turbo and a nice body.
Attached are some pics:
- First pic is most recent
- second pic is from when i got it home
- third is rims nad brakes how they look after moving the car a bit
- 4th pic is random haha
I will get some up of the motor as it is right now i am stripping it down to the block and pulling it. Note this is my first project car i did an intake on my Z28 but thats the most i have done to a car

here are some of the engine i am slowly making progress but since it is my first rotary i am very slowly making progress so i dont break anything and a pic of my racing beat exhaust. This car is rare in one respect it was completely stock when it came over!

Good luck to you on your build. And to answer your question, sounds like you have a touring model.

you should just get the basic rebuild kit and upgrade to the super seals. I used one in my FC I plan on using one to freshen up my FD engine this winter too
I could build and port your engine for cheap if you didnt want to do it
I've got pineapple small and medium streetport templates ep2a and ep3a exhaust

Good luck on your biggest love/hate relationship, gutsy to take on "that part of life" so early

about the RA seals mentioned, they can be quite hard on the housings if the clearencing is not done properly and you are doing the job yourself. Done right, and use with premix, they are very good and stand up to alot of beating(pings) before giving in, and treat the houses good.

Congrats on your first FD! I bought my FD when I was 15, it had been sitting for over 3 years until I got it running, but runs strong to this day another 3 years later. It's definitely been a love/hate relationship, but take your time and do research! Don't be afraid to post and ask questions, people on the board are *usually* friendly

Alright so tonight my buddy came over and helped me out got alot more done with him helping me then by myself so now the rats nest turbo assembly and fuel injectors are all un bolted un plugged etc just gotta pull em out still struggling with the power steering pulley cant get the nut off cause you need that special tool to hold it in place (i know im not smart enough to make my own) once that pulley is off then off comes the last of the powersteering and A/C as well as the water pump can be pulled off so basically almost ready to pull the motor and send er away for a rebuild and streetport. Then T66 single turbo kit with 1600 750 injectors, Apexi PFC, GReddy FMIC, Fluidyne or Koyo aluminum rad, coilovers and im done for performance for the year. Gotta get it tuned etc and body and interior but thats next.

you should just use the stock twins at first , and get used to the car and how it handles and get everything else working properly. you can make over 300whp with them.
T66 FD might be a bit crazy for a 16 year old to start off with
my FC only has a hybrid turbo runs 11.42@122mph with worn drag radials, it still give me butterfly's in my stomach after a hard pull.on the street. its sideways till over 100km/h and will break loose occasionally in 3rd on cool days

Yeah when i first bought the car i thought about just a stock rebuild and street port with the stock turbos but since everything is off and single turbo is alot simpler to maintain i thought i might as well just get that done so everything is done so its ore reliable and easy to work on i wont be running the full whp till im used to the car at lower boost with a small wastegate spring. my parents would never let me drive a high hp car till they trusted me with it.

I know about the power to weight ratio with a big turbo is not safe for a kid my age so im working with my parents on somehow safely restricting me till i can handle its full pontential. The motors almost ready to be pulled very little left on! then it is going to RE Motorsports for a rebuild and other goodies!

Congrats with your FD! I just turned 16 when I bought my FD too, but here in Norway I doesn't get my license until I'm 18, four months left for me.
Totally agree with FC3Sdrift, the stock twins will give you enough power in the first round and they are even more effective at low rpm's which makes the car fun to drive! My car runs 12 psi with Power FC, 3" exhaust, HKS Twinpower and som other mods and make 313whp. I doesn't think how much HP you got have have anything with how dangerous the car will be to drive, it's all about the driver!!

i understand everyones points about not going for all the horsepower so quick being 16 and all but since the motor is apart i want to only want to have it out once and do everything all once and make this car reliable and easier to work on than it is with the stock tiwns and ports . im not going single and street port just for power im more focused on making this car a real relaible rotary that can be well mannered on the street and have the ***** to back itself up if nesscecary. im not the typical young kid who just focuses on power and i dont mean to sound cocky by saying that it is just im focused on improving the car in all aspects not just one.

I couldn't afford an FD when I was 16, so congrats on that.

If reliability is your goal, I would definitely research water injection (browse the Aux Injection forum) and subscribe to every Howard Coleman thread.
