Transaction with Keeble

Attached is some PMs exchanged from me and Keeble.

Here is the outline.
I was looking for a manual steering rack assembly to do the conversion in my car.
I sold my entire power steering set and was using money from that, for this transaction
I contacted Keeble via pm as i saw he had one for sale.
He asked me specifically about tie rod ends, as he knew they were damaged. I said Id be okay with damaged ones.
He send me some photos and In one there clearly shows the brackets for the manual rack.
We agreed on price, I pay, he ships. relatively fast too.
I get the parcel and notice that not only the rod ends are damaged (I knew about that) but also the other dust cover for the shaft has holes and is damaged. But the one thing that actually bothers me is that the mount were missing.
I know i never specifically asked, but he sent a photo with the mount on it. I assumed that it was included in the deal.

I tried to resolve via paypal for a partial refund, and Keeble escalated it to a claim.
Just be careful when dealing with forum member folks, he is trying to play it off as a

"well you never asked about them so i sold them" to which i say "you never told me they were not included as per photo and I am sure you know they are needed for a manual steering rack"

At the end of the day, I would like a mod to resolve this, and deem who is right and who is wrong. I would like to think I am correct with making this thread, but if you check all pms and photos and deem me incorrect, I will gladly accept responsibility.
Thanks in advance.

A manual rack without mounts is useless to me, just scrap metal.

No need to bother the mods, that ls what the PayPal claims process is for. They look at both stories and they decide who is in the right or who is in wrong.

The pictures of the rack were with the rack still mounted to the subframe, but that doesn't mean I you are getting the subframe.

I neither expressed nor implied that the mounts were included with the sale.

well, I can see where the misunderstanging happened, but I see nothing that would have led me to believe they were to be included....I would honestly chalk this up to a learning experience--be sure to ask all questions you have before sending someone money for parts.

I might be able to help you find the mounts youre looking for....but I honestly cannot see a reason to get a refund. You asked for a part and you got exactly what was promised, at the price you agreed to.

Alright, fair enough. Although, had I known they were to be not included, I never would have purchased.

But the part was not exactly as promised. I would still like to hear reasoning behind not telling me that the inner boots were garbage as well, I mean why go out of your way to say the ends are toast but not tell me of damage elsewhere on the part?? .

Roller, pm me if you can find me some mounts please, or an entire assembly. Right now I have nothing to install in the car.

Maybe you should revisit those PM's that you linked in your first post......because he did tell you about the boots.....you even responded that the pics showed the boots to be toast.....then you said no problem and sent him payment.....so what am I missing here??

The first mention was the tie rod "ends". Not the tie rod "ins" .. He always said the "ends" are messed up. From the photos he sent, I could not tell full condition of the inner boots. Maybe I am wrong, but I always referred to the outer boot as the one on the stud and the inner as the corrugated tubular boot.

At any rate, I closed the paypal claim, I should have just assumed that because the tie rod ends were messed up, that the inner tie rod boots must have been messed up as well. I should also have asked for better photos of close ups, and made sure that I was getting a usable unit, and not missing parts needed for use. Lesson learnt.

Its not about the money necessarily. I have done many dealings on this forum and very very rarely do they turn sour.. I was trying to voice my experience as how I felt it to be ; Bad.

I have absolutely nothing to hide, or any real reason to try to "sway" a claim my way, as I have closed the paypal claim and just decided its not worth wasting my time. I will however spend my time sharing my experience with other members to prevent future problems for other members.
In my opinion, he did not disclose the inner boots were damaged as well.

Roller, if my post is out of line, you may delete it as you see fit. I'm not looking to step on any toes, just voicing an experience. If you can help me find a full manual rack setup, please PM me. I am happy to pay a finders fee for something I really need.

Ok, I got ya now.....in the PMs you simply say that the boots are trashed, you did not specify, that is why I asked. At that point though, I would have to ask--if you saw the outer boots so trashed, why would you not ask about the other boots at that time? The way I see it, each of you could have, and probably should have, gone that extra step. Anytime someone advertises a part for sale, they should provide a full description of any problems with that part. And as a buyer, it is better to ask all questions and get a full account of the condition and what is included before paying. I'm hoping that each of you will use this to have better experiences down the road.

and you should--thats what thus section is for.

no worries, man--it is clear that neither of you is trying to pull a fast one or anything. Simple miscommunication....

Not at all. No need, youre not out of line. And I will do some checking and see what I can find.

Thanks, it is much appreciated.
You may close or delete this thread. The seller and myself have also agreed it was poor communication.

Roller, Id be looking for an ENTIRE set up. Rack, good inner tie boots, good mounts and bushings, as well as the rod that runs from the rack to the firewall. Basically a setup for someone who has nothing from the top of the firewall, down. It would be greatly appreciated if you can help me find one. I check ebay every now and then but nothing decent comes up.
