smg944 issue with $900 sale.
I am going to start by saying I am a very reasonable and understanding person. Usually there is always a reason for someone's actions. In this case all I can see is fraud.
I purchased a turbocharger from SMG944 aka Steve for $929.00 US on March 23, 2008. The paypal name was Don Conde I don't know if that was his father or his friends or his real name. The papal looked like this:
Subject:
GT4088R Turbo
Note:
"real" GT 4088R turbo in good condition packaged and shipped to Kingston Ontario with insurance
"in great condition actually. you can tell it has 1k or less milage on it. theres no damage, no bearing play, the s/n is 755956-4.
The quote on the bottom is directly from himself.
Keyword is "NO DAMAGE"
I received the package several weeks later and opened it up. I saw what looked like a good condition GT4088R turbo, felt the bearing play seemed reasonable the turbine housing looked welded and an interesting Vband was installed on it but it and it was missing some of the tabs that hold the compressor housing to the cartridge otherwise seemed like it was in good condition. So it went on my shelf as I was in the middle of building my 1/2 Bridgeport motor, I didn't look at it until the motor was almost finished and I had to try to find a V-band for the turbine housing. I removed the turbine housing without much effort and to my amazement I saw that the compressor wheel had a piece of something go through it. It was nicked damaged and useless.
I didn't immediately file a claim with papal or my credit card company. I was reasonable and wanted to have him explain his side of the story and give him the opportunity to give me a refund.
I would still be trying to resolve this without the help of the RX-7 Club but he has not attempted to contact me. Would anyone who dealt with Steve before be able to get me his contact information? Perhaps Steve could come on the other end and explain his side of the story.
Mark

Damn Mark! That doesn't look or sound good. This is one of those reasons why I never sell or buy turbos where you can't see pictures of the compressor wheel. My buddy got screwed like this and a lot of the times the original seller doesn't even know what condition the turbo is actually in! Goodluck with this...

hey, i have spoke with mark over and over by pm about this. lets start from the top.
he purchased the turbo from me in march. i did not hear from him for over 4 months on the turbo. all of a sudden i get an email with "oh you sold me a junk turbo". well first off this turbo came off of a DSM. so no apex seal went through it, and also i personally checked it myself. i have never once screwed anyone over on the forum or anywhere else. i have been on here a long time and made many many transaction. i mean when i recieve something i check it out right away. 4 months later are you really serious on that. how do i not know that you installed it blew an apex seal through it and now want to blame me? i dont. so that is why i am trying to work with you through fedex under a claim. i am doing the best i can but 1. they are extremely slow 2. it has been over 4 months since the shipment date to the date of claim. thats a long time and fedex is still " in review "
again i am trying my best to resolve this for you. but i know for a fact that turbo was in excellent condition when i sent it out. i checked it over personally.
NOW, for you to come out here and say that i have not contacted you is a full out lie. i pmed you about a week ago speaking on the fedex situation. we have also spoken many times before that on this matter. to go and say im basicly no doing anything about it is just wrong.

My last Pm to you was less then a week ago, you last pm is in my 2 weeks bin. That said the same thing you had been telling me for a while. I tried sending you emails as well and there was no response.
You may be trying to resolve this to your best efforts but I have not received that. To me it looks that you shipped the turbo the best and safest way you could and that FEDEX couldn't have carefully smashed the turbine blades in the same manner engine would.
I did inspect the turbo both from the pictures I had received the conversations I had with you and the previous owner. Again when I received the turbo it looked alright. With the turbine housing on it looks legit; a little bit different but good nonetheless. I didn't do a claim with my credit card company because stupidly enough I did trust you. You weren't some punk who just signed up here to sell a rotten turbo.
Did you ever run this turbo on one of your cars? How long did you own this turbo? Can you honestly say that you took the turbine housing off to inspect the blades when you purchased this turbo?
I'm sorry that I had to make this thread; however, it was the only thing that I could get a response from you.

just some fyi for you guys believing it could have not been fedex.
i work with cnc machinery. i was sent an new $3000 brain unit encased in metal. well when it was shipped "un named co" it looked like a dagger went through the box. i have no idea what or how it happend but the unit came directly from the factory. completely damage the unit.
now on the issue with the turbo i have no idea at all on how that could have happend.
the fact of the matter is that it has been nearly 6 months now we have been in contact for 2 months over this. i checked the turbo personally both housings off, it was fine. i would not try to screw anyone over. im doing the best i can here. but it is best to check things right away. also i never ran the turbo it was on a dsm so no debris went through the turbo.

So, it's been 6 months and now you're filing a claim with FedEx?
Please update with what happens. FedEx wouldn't even honor a claim I made for a customer after 10 days of receiving the part. They have a 7 day claim filing time-frame so I'm just curious as to what they say in this particular situation...

marek, i dont understand what you are trying to do here now. make me look bad? if you clearly look at my original sale thread it says i dont want to go faster. basicly what i just wrote above. and you post really? with a link that is (im guessing) saposed to be opposite.
so on the time frame issue. i had it the day after he posted it. so that makes it 8 days. then from when i had it to the time i shipped it was what 2-3 weeks? so i was a bit off but im not pulling dates off of the forum to prove anything. im trying to work with you and you keep trying to pin me. like wtf, you DID own the turbo for 4 MONTHS before saying anything to me and im not pinning you on that.
its like you buying a new cd and never opening the package. and it winds up being snapped in half or whatever and expecting to return it after 4 months. really how do i know what you did with it. i personally know the turbo was fine. if 96tsiawd could chime in he would say the same. like i said it was on a DSM hense his forum name.

I was under the impression that he bought the gt40r to put on his rebuild title FD.
How about this if you can find the wheel from Garrett I will pay for rebuild balancing etc? We can put this mess behind us.
