BEWARE of Japan2LA - paid $2,218 - nothing but excuses and NO engine

I have ordered a few small parts previously from Japan2LA and all was fine, and with the fact that he is a forum sponsor, I felt ok ordering a longblock from him. BOY was I wrong.

8/18 Forum vendor Japan2LA confirms he has JDM FD Longblock under 30k miles with guaranteed compression and warranty available for 5 day delivery.

8/22 I pay his requested price including shipping via Paypal.

It is currently 9/25 and all I have received from him is poor customer service, and 2 fake tracking numbers. I called the freight company about both tracking numbers and they confirmed that those numbers are the correct format, but not linked to any active shipments.

Please see the below screenshots for proof. The dates show how long it takes him to respond, which is terrible considering the amount of this transaction. Not to mention his avoidance of direct questions like "when exactly was my engine shipped?" and "what shipping company?". This is VERY SHADY behavior, and I'm shocked to receive this treatment from a forum vendor.

You can see via the last screenshot, on 9/23 I PM'd him requesting a real tracking number otherwise I would file a refund. Well he has not responded at all as of today, so I've filed a dispute with paypal and decided to make this post here so that others can beware before doing any business with Japan2LA.

will do. i have already filed a dispute with paypal and at this point will only be happy with a refund, since due to his actions i would not trust any engine he sent me anyway.

sorry about the dupe thread, i wasnt sure which section was more appropriate.

Im not sure whats going on with him, he's been MIA as far as PM's go. Ive ordered plenty of items from him before with no issues and great communication, but for the last few weeks he gets on the forum but is not repling atleast to not my PM's. Im waiting on the last piece of some parts that i ordered from him, hopefully they will show up soon. I do know he said he recently lost his help so that may be part of the issue with the delays.

Japan2LA submitted another FAKE invalid tracking number to paypal, trying to avoid/delay the refund.

Just got off the phone with Frontline Carriers, they confirmed that new tracking number is also invalid, and they searched by my shipping address and there are NO shipments scheduled or in transit to me, and nothing shipped by the Brian's name either.

This behavior is downright shady and dishonest.

Last time I dealt with JAPAN2LA was nothing but good on a Microtech Dash it was shipped promptly a couple of months ago. On a personal note I ship alot of airplane engines and APUs. They are considered hazardous on IATA and ICAO (dangerous aparatus) I use Crane for shipping and let me tell you that there has been several times where the Bill of Laden has been fucked up and the equipment been sent to Chicago instead of Motreal............He is a standup guy.......Breathe and take it easy im sure theres a good explanation for this misunderstanding.........

I can appreciate where you're coming from, I know mistakes happen....

but this is much more than a simple shipping error.

1. He has supplied THREE fake tracking numbers... one could be seen as a mistake, two is suspicious, three is definitely someone playing games... not a "stand up guy"

2. he avoided / refused to answer direct questions like "exactly what date did the engine ship?" if he was really a stand up guy, that is a very simple question to answer. the only reason someone would not answer that question is because they have NOT shipped your engine and are telling lies to buy time.

3. he told me "5 day delivery time". if he could not meet that goal, or there was a unexpected delay, then a true stand up guy would simply have been honest and told me what was going on, rather than give fake information and ignore pm's. i could have found an alternate solution and already have my car back on the road.

i already gave him the benefit of the doubt... he promised 5 day delivery, i waited over 30 days... i feel like i have been incredibly patient and generous with how long i waited before posting this here. the fact is, i have plans and schedules to keep that have all been thrown out, costing me time, money, and headache due to this guys dishonesty and poor service.

Ok, gotta post a little clarification. I was going to take a screenshot of the third tracking number, but I just realized the new number is the same as the first bad number! So I guess instead of submitting a third invalid tracking number like I thought, paypal says he just re-submitted the first invalid fake tracking number to paypal again (which per his own PM he already acknowledged as a bad number).

So to keep facts straight, he has given me TWO invalid/fake tracking numbers not three.
Either way, he still knows that is NOT a real tracking number, and neither was the second one, so the ONLY purpose that serves is to delay my refund claim.

This can all end quickly and easily if he just comes in here, mans up, and refunds my money.

Damn... sounds like the guy over-extended himself and now hes in hiding.

Hopefully paypal comes through for us and gets us our refunds.

Wow just saw this thread...glad I saw it too.

I messaged Japan2LA earlier this week asking if he had any c- or d-code 20b long blocks for sale - he's PM'd me 3 times in the past couple of days.

He replied back offering to sell me a b-code for $4500+shipping or a "disassembled d-code with ported housings for $10,000", or $14,000 for it with a brand new e-shaft.

After reading this thread I guess I'll look elsewhere.

I posted in the other thread about him in the bad guy section. No telling what the excuses will be this time. Myself and other reputable members have had issues with this guy over the last 5-6 years that I can remember. He always "makes it right" by refunding just enough or figuring out some way for most to not go public with the headaches he causes. Im just personally tired of seeing these threads about him. He has helped a lot of people, yes, but also screwed or wasted a lot of people's time as well. Sad that he gets his hands on a lot of parts that are needed in the community but is just a nightmare to deal with most times and you never know if the parts you receive are going to be worth a damn.

WOW... I remember that thread and contemplated on purchasing that motor to have an extra short block for future use.

Glad I didn't send him money....

SORRY that you did and he burned you like this. Just get your money back and buy from someone who deserves your business..

I've been getting PMs from multiple people in here telling me about a PM that japan2la sent out back in August.....he was apparently desperate to get cash to cover the cost of a container that was already on its way in. He was offering parts for sale to try to cover the cost. My best guess is that he sold you two guys engines that he did not even have yet, and took your money to try to cover that expense.....it's just a guess but it certainly fits the info we have so far. And he has refused to address anything other than to say "I'll be back in LA on Friday, I'll address this then"....that was last week, and even though Friday has come and gone, no one has heard anything unless they contact him looking to buy something from him.

I have told him that he is not to sell parts here until this is resolved, but he keeps logging in....I have no doubt that he's selling through PMs. We;'re going to address that next....
