Atkins rotary sucks! Beware...

Well it's been a whle since I've posted, but found out some more bad news from my installer. In the last few years, he has ran into 5 cars with Atkins engines, all claiming to have less than 10-15k miles. All had bad engines, and like mine, with a Pettit swap the problems resolved. Jason and the other tool that I delt with were complete as*holes when trying to trouble shoot, and after hearing some more horror stories, moving to the west coast, and doing much better in my career, I'm thinking of getting ahold of any others for a class action suit.

Any others have similar stories?

So far there's 6 of us from KC MO that want a refund or some explaining! If anyone from Atkins has the ***** to message me, please do! You'll be getting a visit from me in person by feb. and I would like to see how cowardly you really are!

I had nothing but great service from Atkins rotary. They come as a highly regarded company usually, and I built an engine with their kit with zero issues. I also fell for Mazda's recommendation to use petroleum jelly on the water jacket seals, which caused them to swell up to about 1.5 times the original size. (I installed the seals, didn't torque the tension bolts) A quick phone call to Atkins resolved the issue quickly, and he even rushed new seals out, along with a tube of Hylomar. For a few years afterwards, they even sent me Christmas cards.

There's also another forum for this exact type of thread...

If you've got a complaint about somebody put it in the Good Guy/Bad Guy Forum.

And I'd recommend you be a little more specific in your complaint, that way people don't just see you as someone pissed off for a obscure reason and blow you off. If you have a legitimate complaint you do yourself and others a dis-service for not explaining it clearly.

That being said Atkins has always been great for me. They have been incredibly helpful on the phones, very knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with as well.

What is mentioned within the disclaimer or agreement when you buy the motors or whatever from Atkins (warranty, promises, etc)?

Warranty Information
Please retain all receipts pertaining to this warranty in the event of a warranty repair. ARS suggests that you continue to follow the maintenance schedule even after the warranty expires in order to extend the life of your engine. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns you may call us at (253) 848-7776, e-mail us at info@atkinsrotary.com, or write to us.

Installation Information
Before installing and starting the rebuilt engine, the following must be done to insure a safe installation:
A. Flow check the radiator, and service as advised (rod out, repair, or replace if needed).
B. Flush the oil cooler to prevent debris from the oil from contaminating the new engine. OR
C. Replace the oil cooler if you find any bearing material in the oil pan or the oil filter.
D. Install a new factory style thermostat.
E. Change any defective parts such as hoses, clamps, water pump, et cetera, that may affect the cooling system.

Follow the removal and installation procedures as outlined in your Chilton’s or Haynes’ repair manuals. Do not prime the engine oil system as instructed in these manuals, as the engine is primed at our shop for you. Cranking on this engine without starting it can and will cause premature bearing failure. After installation please start the engine in the normal fashion. Bearing failure is not covered as a manufacturer defect.

The engine must be returned to ARS facilities to be examined, replaced, or repaired. If the engine is found to be defective, ARS will examine, repair, and/or replace the engine at the seller’s facilities at no charge to the purchaser for time and parts expended. The warranty specifically covers all parts and no purchaser labor. If the engine is not found to be defective or is not for some other reason within the warranty coverage, ARS’s service time expended, parts, and freight charges will be charged to the Purchaser. If repairs of the engine are not covered by warranty, ARS will not make any repairs without first obtaining permission from the Purchaser. The Purchaser shall be responsible for all maintenance service procedures consistent with normal operations. The warranty is non-transferable between the original purchaser and subsequent purchasers.

unmolested engine returned for inspection
maintenance records filled out properly

if the engine is still under that period and he followed everything and blew him off i could understand his frustruation, but none of really anything was said so far.. sounds like a lot of hot air to me.

While in my humble opinion the OP has no legal legs to stand on and his posting the same threads in multiple sections is ridiculous and makes him look foolish. I'm not certain I'd be comfortable not being able to pay with a CC for my engine...makes it seem like they are scared of a charge back. Then again I do understand the retailers side of this as well. The OP is exactly the type of person I'd be worried about getting a charge back from.

i'm sure they have their reasons, going round after round with a CC company for a chargeback for a $3k bill would probably leave me with a distaste in my mouth as well. some people are just shady and know all the tricks to get away with just about anything these days and CC companies are out to protect their 26% a month income versus a straight transaction.

I will always back up atkins rotary. He is one of the few legit rotary companies left. Iv'e bought plenty of parts from them. My father built a motor using there kit, i built a motor using there kit. (sold mine afterwords but it did run last i heard!)

Sucks how easy it is to ruin someones rep but so god damn hard to build a good reputation.

Let me first start off by saying that I have no connection to Atkins whatsoever. Never did business with them, never ordered anything from them, do not know anyone who works there or owns the place, etc etc.

That being said, to the OP, it's been 8 years, son. Time to move on with life. Were they at fault? I have no way to tell...for one thing, as I said, it's been 8 years! What can you possibly gain from posting multiple threads about them at this point?

Second, I'm guessing that somewhere along these last 8 years, you got your car up and running, right? So this is done with. Over. Atkins has thousands of customers worldwide--I'm certain that I could look and find several people that were not satisfied with ANY company that does that much business. But there's no good reason for you to continue complaining about an issue from 2004 that by now is too late to do anything about anyways. Thread closed. Please do not post another.
