Exclamation Anarchy Motive - Complaint

www.anarchymotive.com

I want to warn people who are considering doing business with him that in my research the likelihood of you getting product is slim, and it is very possible you will have a hard time filing a credit card dispute because of his hard to find and ambiguous enough terms and conditions. It seems some have gotten product from him, though many admit it was far later than expected or agreed upon. But those who received their purchases and posted as such seem few and far between.

Seems to be a one man shop, but I will not list his name to comply with the guidelines. Sells custom metal shift *****. Some very nice work displayed in the pictures.

The short of it:
This guy has 57 complaints (17 in the last 12 months) on his company's BBB profile, with an average of 1.08 review score from 60 reviews. All pretty much say the same thing - do not order from him, he doesn't ship and then either doesn't refund you or only does a partial 45% refund. Some have waited a year and a half with nothing. Searching "Anarchy Motive" will also reveal 7 different forums with people posting complaints on this business. One poster on a forum even remarks on the irony of him having posted a complaint on another vendor a couple years before, and put that as a comment on the complaint that Anarchy Motive's owner started.

My personal experience detailed:
I saw an ad for him on some social media site in December of last year, and wanted to buy a friend a custom shift **** for his birthday this year (which is in May). On December 18, 2021, I ordered a custom **** for just under $100 (after shipping and taxes) after having emailed the company owner back and forth and discussed what I needed and asked for suggestions. He was very friendly, quick to respond and helpful. I am paraphrasing email/conversation for brevity, but I followed up with him on January 1st, 2022 to check on timeframes as I seemed to recall at the time I placed the order that there was an 8-10 week timeframe for delivery. This would be well in time for the May birthday, but I like to confirm my expectations when possible. I asked on that January 1st email if the 8-10 weeks timeframe was correct and he confirmed it. So to be sure, I asked to verify a safe expectation would be to receive it by end of February, early March at the latest. He confirmed that was a solid expectation.

After not having heard any updates nor receiving the shift ****, on April 18th - 17 weeks after having placed the order and well past the 8-10 week timeframe - I emailed him for a status update and tracking number. He advised he had just finished up the batch it was in and clearing them for shipping. I replied that was fine and that I then expected it soon. Six weeks later (23 weeks after ordering), having not received an update or the shift ****, and past my friend's May birthday, I asked for an update, to which he responded he was still completing the batch it was in. Six weeks prior he made it seem like the **** was about to get shipped, but now the story was that the batch it was in wasn't even completed. At this point I'd missed the birthday gift and had my doubts this was on the up and up. I asked him to cancel the order because of the delays and as it was no longer needed, and he advised he then cancelled it per the terms of his refund policy that I agreed to when purchasing the shift ****, and he wished me a good rest of my day. That wording should have thrown up red flags, but it wasn't until a couple days later when I checked my credit card statement and saw less than half refunded that I did the math and advised him there must have been some mistake and when would the remaining 55% of the money be sent back for the cancelled order. He wrote back quickly and said he refunded me per the terms I agreed to upon checking out regarding a refund policy, and again to have a good rest of my day.

The first thing I did was try to find these terms and conditions he was referring to. They are not directly on his site. You have to go and put something in a cart and pretend to go through with a purchase all the way until the last point where you put in your payment information. At that point, at the very bottom, in a two to four line box you see the beginning text of the terms and conditions. I scrolled and highlighted them to copy and paste them into a word document so I could read them, and right there at the end of the 9th out of 10 pages you see that he will only refund 45% of the total collected amount for any returned shift *****. I then looked up the company, seeking reviews, and came across all the bad stuff out there on Anarchy Motive, from the BBB profile to the multiple forums with people very upset. He likes to reply to all the complaints on the BBB profile with claims of people just being lunatics or disgruntled, but the consistency speaks for itself, down to the same canned responses he gives when people ask for updates past the expected due dates. I filed a dispute with my credit card, sending them the entire thread of our back and forth conversation along with info from the BBB profile and links to the complaints and posts on the multiple forums, and referred to his terms and conditions being vague about returned or refunded product, but that having been 13 weeks past the latest estimated timeframe and the questionable updates to the status and all the complaints that this seemed like a nice way to take people's money and give them less than half back after.

And after 4 weeks when I called my card company this past Friday to follow up on the dispute they advised a letter went out to me to detail their decline of my dispute due to the terms and conditions he supplied. I am escalating this with my card company as in my opinion this seems very fraudulent. I'm going to do the best I can to get my money back and try to find a way to make sure no one else gets screwed over, but my hopes are that by posting this info here I can at least have people have some understanding of the risk of buying from him should they still want to.

The irony is that when I first ordered, he was so patient and thorough and his work looked really good, that I asked him if he would mind if I posted his info on this forum if the transaction goes well, which at the time I had no doubt it would.

I tried to be as objective, factual and fair in what I wrote above. I am happy to revise this in any way if I missed something in the guidelines for posting, and would love to post my message thread I had with him here, omitting his name, if I am allowed to.
