running water as a safety

I'm doing a bunch of reading as I want to run injection once my new engine gets up and running.

Do any of you guys use injections as a safety,... meaning you aren't tuning for power? If I tune me car to 15PSI on 94oct (Canadian gas) and then run injection at 10psi+ will it work?

I only plan to run injection on the track while at 15PSI, and on the street leave it at 10PSI with no injection.

Do I need to tune with the injection or can I add it after all the tuning is done.

I hope I kind of made myself clear?

Basically the reason I want to do this is 1 to cool the intake charge and 2 incase the injection system ever fails, I don't want my engine to be relying on it as part of the tune.

Take a look for my thread and you'll see answers. We have the exact same question. I'm getting my engine rebuilt and will be adding water injection.

Basically from what they've told me, you do not need a retune if you're running just water injection.

Good luck

Most people who run water just tune for reliability, however, I tune for power.

In the future I may tune for power, but for now I just want a car that runs. I rebuilt everything and had the engine blow 3 months later from what I guess was heatsoak on the intake temp sensor. AFRs were all good...

I just want something reliable.

I would simply put a 500cc jet pre turbo. Run it flat out all the time kicking in around 7psi.

Your engine will most likely not die again.

If their is a problem their. It will cover up alot of it. but if their is a big problem their, it wont fix it.

Pre-turbo.. like that one picture I saw of a system that had the nozzle in the air filter?

Is that safe to do?... send water through the turbo like that? I don't want to have issues with corrosion.

If my car can pass 1.5litre of water per minute through the front turbo and not die. Yours wont either.

lol.. yes I was just reading your thread.

question though... I am going to run max 15PSI for the first little while. How many CC do you suggest, and how large of a tank? I want to be able to run 30min sessions at the track without stopping.

I would run no less then 350cc and preferably around the 500cc mark for your setup.

Nothing less then 7-8 litre tank.

How long would you say a 8L tank would last at the track running 15PSI? It is a very open track and I'm on boost for about 70% of the track and WOT for at least 40-50%

If you stayed on WOT 100% of the time you would you finish the water in around 20 minutes. But your not WOT 100% of the time.

If you can fit a 13-14l tank then you can for around 40-45 minutes flat out.

I saw Howard Colemans setup in the trunk and don't mind the size of the tank. I think a 10-12L tank will work then.

Here is a great thread about Axillary Injection. Its a lengthy thread, but very interesting and educational.
