Exclamation NEED HELP. questions AEM 50:50 w/m water/methanol injection system

hey guys well im planning on getting the AEM 50:50 BUT my question is can i make this work with my stock ecu? do i just simply boost more till my afr is back to the way it was? i have a 1988 T2 with gslse 680injectors on the secondary's boosting 14psi my afr on my wideband is 10.7-11.5. stock intercooler stock turbo stock ecu. can this w/m kit work for me?

i was simply thinking of setting the system to activate at 14psi (when my afr is good) then boost more when the kit is activated until i reach the 10.7 - 11.5 afr again. sort of new to this. also how much more can i push the stock turbo with this kit.

i think that you are trying to subsitute ai for fuel which is a bad thing. you want to use ai for supressing detonation. also the stock ecu is going to hit boost cut without a fcd. also if you have a stock turbo and no porting to the wastgate it might have some adverse affects if you have aftermarket exhaust. trying to tune the a/f while the ai is active is not the best idea.

thnx i was think of using simply water injection, i already have the FCD =) and the gsl-se 680cc secondary injectors boosting 14psi with my afr reading 11.0 -11.3. Ive been hearing that after 12psi my stock turbo(which actually is a 91 turbo) doesnt improve power because all its pushing is hot air. so what i was thinking is putting a water injection system (homemade) pre turbo to change the compressor map. im planning on running a 0.014 inch nozzle which i think is equivalent to around 190cc/m. this will help cool the turbo and gain the lost power and cool the intake charge as well. if there is ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS IDEA PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME BEFORE I DO THIS! =)

you really need to replace the 680 secondaries w something larger. while you may be currently rich you will run out of gasoline very quickly if you raise the boost. you really don't have enough tuning hardware capability currently. further, this preturbo map shift idea may or may not actually be a reality. also, the last thing you want to do is inject any fuel w the water preturbo. you wouldn't want to blow up your intercooler and piping would you?

that all said i commend you for your DIY attitude... i suggest you take a step back and realize that most of the cars on the board weren't built in a day. plan your mods over a period of time. you need a different turbo, a Power FC, some instrumentation and an AI system that has a progressive delivery controller. that way you can hit your motor w a bit more AI injectant but not all at once so you don't drown it. progressive controllers aren't very expensive and can be plumbed into your DIY system.

good luck,

hc

thnx alot for the feedback, yea i changed my mind, with the research ive done im planning on just putting a homemade water injection kit from a friend of mines that i got for free =) just need to change the sizing, which i read your thread on sizing and im going for a 180cc/m in this case a pre turbo would work right?. (i dont have a job anymore so i cant ask for much) =)

i've had issues with AEM products when trying to use them in conjunction with other units. Unless you are running an AEM ECU and AEM AI kit, you could run into problems.

Good Luck

are you running a stand alone? and does the AEM kit have to communicate with the standalone?
