RX7 Series 8 Advice Wanted

Hi guys,

I've redirected a previous thread to here bcos I totally forgotten that Series 3 and Third Generation were 2 entirely different things. *feels like a fool. Sorry to bumpstart too for making him type all of those stuff..

Anyway let me restart.

I want to get a S8 RX-7 and need advice on what stuff to look for when I go scout for one. Preferably, signs of a good RX-7 that has been taken good care of. I'm a total newbie so pls try to put it as less technical as possible.. =) what factors of the car should I watch out for when I view n test drive them?

I was actually thinking of rebuilding a S8 RX-7 by replacing the engine and all the other important parts. (buying a good body/interior and replacing the rubbish engines or worn out parts). Any advice on it? Like part availability and price averages? what parts should I take special consideration in performing a rebuild.

twin turbo, single turbo, type a,b,c's, etc which would be better (I'm looking for manual + 2 seater only)?

Thanks!!

Before you even start test driving cars spend 3-6 months reading up learning about the strenghts and weaknesses of a series 8 RX7

Here you go this is a good reference point for your journey to begin (grasshopper )

This is not specifically about the S8 but still helpful
http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/buy1.htm

Why would you be thinking of rebuilding?
All rx-7 are 2 seaters (the back seat that came in some is a novelty at best)

A, B & C refer to the limited run spirit R
S8 codes were: http://fdowners.com/showthread.php?t=13

Having a series 8 rx7 and a series 6 or 7 requires THE EXACT SAME things

learn about the rx7 in general first

Not really, the cooling is a lot better on the S8 as is almost everything else. you don't generally have to do as much work to reliably daily drive an S8

that is great advice.
the cooling is actually the same ****. i have owned series 6 7 and 8

dont get me wrong, there are a lot of differences between the models but they all require the same attention

How is the cooling better except fromthe airflow? its the same radiator, same thermostat and tubes and the worst of all the same shitty plastic AST

The only "better cooling" of the series 8 is that the parts are less likely to fail , like cracking your AST for example. a 18 year old plastic AST is more likely to crack than a 6 year old one. But again i cracked my 2001's AST in 2005

The only really better thing the series 8 in terms of cooling (which not all series 8 have) is the twin oil cooler setup

My advice would be......take your time......look around.

There is plenty for sale.

Dont buy the cheapest one......rather buy the best one you can afford.

but costs twice as much as a rew . you can replace 2 rew's for the price of putting an LS1 .

I agree, the only other swap that ever should be entertained is a triple rotor

I agree - 80/20 weight distribution is far more fun to drive

Actually considering going down the LS1/2 route after obtaining a ex-drift FC3S and turning it into a track car. Has all the main track ready components and a RE Amemiya widebody kit. Just didn't come with an engine and I'm contemplating whether I should continue with a rotor in it or otherwise go V8. Hope to see what others have done on here and their opinions.

I love my series 8. Had a 6 and 7 too previously.

Its the little things I find that make the experience so different.

Check out my instagram:

scotiatint

I had bad luck with shipping but just like the phoenix from the fire and ashes rose a great beast.
