GT4094R...I have the car running but theres a big difference between actual rpm and ems rpm. the map sensor reading is off. I'm gonna try the gm sensor and see what happens.

I might just pay a tuner to sort it all out for me since I have very little time to figure it out! and summer is here!!!!!!!!

There is an update that AEM will do that will fix the tech problem. You have to send it back to them though.

Just wondering what they "AEM" normally charges for all these updates? I have a unit that has been sitting around for a while and I've sent it in for updates and I got a quote back from them after they looked at it. They wanted a fortune, so I just want to make sure I'm not being raped here.

yeah, the jokers at AEM wanted close to $450 after they looked at my unit. They tell me that there is also a bad 2nd coil on main board (whatever that means). Does anyone know what the 2nd coil controls? I want to know if I even need this output considering that there are supposively numerous other outputs that I can use. Anyway, just wanted some feedback before I tell them to send the unit back to me the way it is and I'll live with the problem

I'm pretty sure the updates are free of charge, was your box working before you shipped it?

Our cars have three coil signals going to the stock ignitor (wasted spark for both Leading plugs, Front Trailing, Rear Trailing) so there should be an unused coil output on one of the pins, look for the coil4 or coil5 output. Switching to another coil output is possible but you'd need to change the wires on your harness and also reconfigure the calibration to fire that other coil output at the correct time.

@fd3rew:
actually, sell the ECU to me.. I'll buy it broken - I need an FD/1800 AEM for software development.

I did pay AEM $50 + shipping (to & from) for a 1300(4G63) box that was suspected to have a bad o2 channel. I think that is probably another situation as the box didn't need any hardware changes/updates.

But I would agree with AEM - If its broken, its broken. It'll cost to fix the ECU and replace the bad components anyhow but I think they may have quoted you for a replacement adapter card. it's a two piece setup inside... seems that would be the route to go, right?
Just wait for the NextGen/Series2 ECU for the FD anyhow - I'm sure you'll like that much better.

@SB:
Bought a current 30-1800 from eBay for dirt cheap today, seems these guys are unloading their "old AEMS" for the new one??.. either way, new in the box (black case) for $700.
Got a half-bridge port/T66bb setup almost ready to go.

wow 700 is a great price. I was eyeing the one that was on ebay recently for 900, it was relisted a couple of times but someone recently grabbed it. Anyway, I'm going to call AEM up and have them send my box back. I'll just cut and redo the traces for the tps and try to get coil output 4 (one spare pin output) to work instead of coil 2 or maybe figure out how to get coil 5(no pin output on mainboard) to fire coil 2. Either way, $450 for someone to cut and solder in two wires an replace a couple of bucks worth of component is just silly. Anyway, I'm not in a hurry either, my car been sitting in garage since the end of 03, I just want to put the unit in and fire the thing up and put a couple of miles on it. Maybe afterwards, I'll sell it (AEM unit, not the car) The NextGen ecu do look like it has all the bells and whistle with alot more outputs but keep in mind how much of it will be actually available (being a plug and play unit) there not enough pins on the factory harness to support all these additional outputs.. unless you get a newer jdm harness for the 16 bit ecu (with matching aem unit of course), then you can have a field day.

mine works great - never had a single issue with any box (i've had a lot of 'em).

if you've got an extra light flywheel or something - that'll hurt the idle a bit and whatnot.
