Issues with going from Wasted Spark to Sequential coils.

Car 1988 Mazda Rx7
Coils AEM IGN with SAKEBOMB harness
ECU Adaptronic 440D

Runs flawless with wasted spark. Install AEM IGN and car would not run. Back firing, can’t hold an idle and appears as if it is running on one rotor. Pegged my wide band to 22A/F ratio?? Tuner had to increase fuel and had to mess around with timing to get it to run.

Now I know it’s not tuned yet with the sequential ignition set up but keep in mind it was fine with wasted spark, now the car idles and revs like a piece of ****. With the wasted spark the APEXI BOV hissed and pissed clean during revs and boost.

My question is should there be much of a difference in maps between wasted spark and sequential. I was expecting switch ignition settings and away you go? I should not have to touch fuel?

Something is wrong. I have tuned cars this way and there was not a huge difference in the actual tune... Check each coils timing...not just rotor 1 !

Tuner changed something. Not sure what. Mentioned he thought the CAS wires were swapped. Not sure why it would show up in sequential not wasted spark setup. It is a stock harness with custom patch harness from adaptronic to the 440D. WIll have to look at the patch harness to see because this would only be the place of error. Tuner suggested that it was fine (idle etc)once he switched the settings. Will have to ask if he changed the fuel and ignition curve back to my stock setup.

Regardless cracked a rear plate right away apparently. Getting the car back today on flatbed. Will look at the ignition map to see what changes were done.

Car consumes to much of my time and money. Storage she goes. Need another few years break lol. Time is a premium especially with two little kids...

thanks for responding.......

Pulled my motor out last night and checked me water injection kit settings. So I found my AEM water controller settings at 5psi start, 15psi full on AEMS biggest water nozzle that comes with the kit. I'm beginning to think with the rich A/F and alot of water at 17psi on the hwy at 120km that I could possible have had a misfire or hydraulic lock?

That doesn't make sense to me. It sounds like the tuner may have swapped something and caused this.

Perhaps the change he made has the computer injecting at the wrong time so you had a partial fuel pulse creating a lean condition?

As for hydrolocking, I highly doubt that as well. Some of the high power guys are spraying way more water and fuel at higher boost levels.
